Thanks for doing this, Dom. Team Curse was so special to me. Voyboy was the first pro I ever followed, and he's the reason I became your fan as well. His mind and mechanics were top notch, and he's probably the most kindhearted pro I've ever seen. It feels so validating to hear you shill for The Kid. He's my goat too. This series honestly lives rent-free in my head. I never watched it in full. I fell asleep after Voy had 4 kills on Zed in G3 thinking it was a wrap. I woke up to my friends telling sorry about Curse losing. I refused to watch this series again until today. I guess having you talk over it and share your experience helped soften the trauma lmao. It's pretty painful to hear how much the org and the rest of the team did Voy so dirty the entire time. From not respecting his mind for the game, to blaming him for an Akali pick that wasn't even the worst pick of that draft, to making him out to be unfairly compensated. It's no wonder he decided to retire, which will always be a shame because Voy was still insanely good for YEARS even after retiring. Might seem a bit overdramatic of a comment to write, but this really brought back a lot of good and bad memories for me. I was genuinely emotionally invested in Curse, so reliving my worst moment as a fan has been both a hit of nostalgia and trauma. But it also brings the whole thing some closure in a way. Thanks for the ride. Looking forward to the next one.

“What was Steve thinking” - I want to get rid of Voyboy, that’s what he was thinking. It’s obvious from the moment they lost game 5 and the first thing they asked was “why did you lock Akali?”. The whole, do you still want to play with x thing was another ploy targeted at him. The salary question was the final nail in the coffin. They wanted him out, and still won fuck all until they got DL.

This isn't even a joke or a meme. I went to Pax that year, and was a huge curse fan! Still am 😎 But I had watched game 2, 3, and 4. After the fourth match I left cause I was younger and their with a friend, and their Ma was comin to get us to go get some grub. I assumed that Curse would ban Yasou since LMQ would be blue side. Fast forward a few hours, and I'm sittin across from the Seattle convention center sitting at this building that's hosting a magic tournament. Waiting for my friend to finish his matches, to my big surprise I see almost all of Curse across the street, presumably waiting for a taxi. Theirs Voyboy, with his girlfriend Pookie, Xspecial, Cop and Dom, I saw Quas the day before and got a pic with him, so I thought it was on some fate type shit I get to meet all of them. I ran down the street to catch the crosswalk and then ran up the side of the street the team was on to share my hype and love for the squad. Note, I was 14/15 at this time, and I am nerodivergant. I run up to Voyboy hyped up to meet him, I ask for a pic, I didn't have a smartphone at that time, but I did have a PS Vita 😂😂 So we flicked up with that, after the pic I asked one of the questions I regret the most in my life fr!! I asked Voy if they won, I feel soooooo bad in hindsight, I could legit see the smile partially leave Voy's face when I asked, he replied with "Nah bud, not this time" while puttin up a half smile. I felt so damn bad, in bigger hindsight, off to the side was Dom, hoodie up, legit zoning out, lookin at the ground like their dog had just died in front of em..... The rest of the team was really cool about the situation, and flicked up, I felt to bad to even ask Dom. I'll never forget that day and series too. Watchin this vid years later is fun/wild.

i really appreciate you for this series of reviewing old footage. i was a huge fan of na lcs back then even though i am from eu. i always wanted to see 1 or 2 superteams forming in na and personally i think the closest we ever got to see 5 gifted players was dignitas. but i personally would have loved to see voy, you, aphro, qt and someone like zionspartan in a team, even though i think it was too early for darshan. maybe voy, you, bjergsen, aphro and qt i think that team could have progressed far in worlds. but honestly i hated jgl back in the day, now i'm a jungle main but back then i prefered every other role over jungle cause first rotation was a pain in the ass. you had to drop camps so that you could get a lvl 3 gank of while being half life and after the first rotation it was like, blue is up. let me walk there just to give it to my mid, it's the third red, let me give it to my adc after he also took my golems, while mid is perma doing my wraiths. so at least i have wolves only each rotation... you fell behind xp wise way too early and i think it showed in competitive even more.

Teams like C9 were massively respected by Eastern teams and were considered insanely good. Now the gap has ballooned because of terrible management by Riot but also by Western teams, who not only crippled their lower leagues but also failed to keep people interested by not fixing any of the problems western players were facing (for example how is it like 13-14 years since LoL was created and the servers in NA are still terrible). Plus coaching in the west is terrible with most coaches going with the “If LCK is playing it that means it’s OP so we should play it” instead of actually trying something different.
