Although I had been expecting it, to find Dave's field empty yesterday morning was gut wrenching for me. Thank you to all my amazing supporters :-)

Ok practical steps Marc - close off the fence near the shelter straight away to make clear Dave was welcome in there but no one else is - maybe keep the shelter while you decide how to proceed with your fields as it might form the start of a goat shed or chicken coop? ( which would need to be closer to your house) Happy to contribute if you want to get some lawnmower goats in that field ? Or an alpaca or two ? (People pay to walk Alpaccas ! It’s a thing !) or start a lavender / cut flower farm - so many options with the amazing space you have there. Thank you for caring for Dave despite him living up to the shitland description so perfectly - you did a lovely thing for that grumpy old chap showing him love and care he had probably never experienced before.

Definitely good to close of the shelter. Knowing that jerk of a person, the one who drives the tractor (as he'll forever now be known to me as) he'll claim that as his own because Dave was his horse. Yes, definitely keep it for now. I see a couple of pet sheep finding home in there one day. Sheep can be dumb as rocks, but if you get them young enough and some training, they can be fun and very funny at times.

We took in a manky little rescue dog who had been at our local pound for 3 months, he was all bad breath, rotten teeth, a tad ugly, he was 5, we only had him for 3 years and one morning he woke up poorly, we rushed him to the vet and he didn’t come home, we were devastated. As you did with Dave, we have to console ourselves that for 3 years, he lived the best, most loving and nurtured life he had experienced. Dave may have been a bitey, cranky old man, but he wouldn’t have come to you so readily if he didn’t feel that love and energy off you. Your time with him was not for nothing. Chin up 🙃

It is so hard to love any animal, horse, dog, cat knowing that you will lose them someday, BUT, the unconditioned love you give and get from a pet is Worth the eventual pain of lose. I have gone thru this numerous times but still I will Always have a pet. I always had dogs but can no longer walk them as I am now disabled so instead I now have 3 cats who I adore. They pretty much ignore me as my husband is the one who feds them but I just love to watch them. So worth it for you and the pet❤

Sorry to hear Dave has gone. I hope he will be ok wherever he has been taken. Maybe time to finish off that chicken run you seem to have in the garden. Use some of the timber from Daves shed to build a coop for them. It will give you something to do whilst you decide what else you want to do with the land and give you some food for the table. What a poignant photo you opened with...I can understand that it was heart wrenching for you to actually watch or know that Dave was put in a wagon and was being taken away from you and the land that was his home. He must have been terrified. I am sure he misses you & poor Dave won't ever understand what's going on. He is kind of a loner, but hopefully he will find another friend…another animal that he can hang out with. Marc, we all grieve differently and at different rates so only you will know when to get a pet and what kind. Contrary to what a lot of people think, cats and dogs can be good friends... mine were.

Marc, I can only imagine how you must be feeling. You gave Dave so much love and attention. I've experienced the loss of four precious toy poodles and a Siamese cat all due to old age. The last toy poodle was a adopted from a rescue shelter and she turned out to be the easiest to house train. Perhaps there's a pet rescue shelter near you that you can check in to. From my experience "rescued or adopted" dogs make the best pets. I imagine it's because when they know they're loved they want to stay and try very hard to be obedient and pleasing. We loved having our furry dog kids cuddle up to us at night or sit on our laps. However, it does take a while for an adopted/rescued pet to settle down. Our last little dog, Lady, would run whenever I got the broom out, but when she realised she was not going to get hurt, she just snuggled up in her basket and went to sleep. I sincerely hope you'll find a dog to walk your fields with you, and maybe a cat as well.

Hawthorns are good for hedgerows. Hazel is good too and can be layered. Some types of willow can be cut into twigs (whips) and stuck in the ground. There are plenty of free hedge trees in the countryside - I always pot up hawthorns etc. I find naturally seeded and regularly plant in the hedgerows.

Aww Mark, thats so sad. I love watching you care for him. I have five hens. I recommend having hens for company as they are loving, and have great personalities, and give good eggs and are cheap to look after. I would never not have hens now. Regarding your son, I know a little how you feel, my daughter I saw every other weekend from the age of 3 to 18. Now for the last six years she has not wanted to speak or see me and has never told me why. Just recently I have found out where she lives and hope to drive 50 miles away from my house to try and reconciliate. Very hard. I learnt 9 years ago to switch off when it comes to neighbours animals as it killed me frequently, and my business was an animal focused one. I focused on my customers animals and my own little dog and blocked out the rest, its too hard here otherwise, and you will end up trying to help hundreds and it kills you even more. I focus on donating to associations that help other animals with food, money and blankets etc.

I'm thinking you can have both a cat & a dog (I'm partial to cats myself). I live alone now, too, and I'm missing my cat that passed in May (actually lost 4 in 2 years, all about 18 years of age). I said, no more, but that's probably not going to happen! haha ..... was going to suggest fostering, but think you need a pet of your own.

When the vlog started I said you need a fur friend to look after, one that will give unconditional love and make you feel needed. Then towards the end you said it yourself. I'm a cat person too but with all that land perhaps a dog would be best. Have a good think about it, you have a lot of love to give. Is there any animal rescue places near you? And thank you for all that you did for Dave, because of you he got to know love and caring.

Omg Marc I'm stunned..I'm a little behind with you tube vlogs due to having work done so to click on this I'm at a loss what to say to you except I feel your pain at Rockstar loss I know you had your moments and had a few chunks removed but you were buddies and it was obvious you cared for him and gave him care and attention he obviously had been without, any chance of finding out where he's gone so maybe visit ..just a thought , just hoping wherever he's gone he will be looked after poor old lad , happy birthday to your son keep faith that one day he may find you out my heart goes out to you the coincidence of the 2 timing is a double whammy to you I'm sure , sending you heart felt best wishes Keep your chin up Marc bless you 💕 x

Oh Marc I am so sorry about Dave. Even though as you say he was not your horse you did look after him and you both did sort of bond in your own ways with each other. I hope Dave is in a better home.

Dave has probably gone to a place with other donkeys etc., so he will have company of his own kind - be positive. That’s what you wanted a while ago anyway, for him to be cared for, you got in touch with someone a while ago about Dave.

I feel absolutely gutted for you Marc, we’ve all been on this journey with you and I think we all feel your pain . You gave him more attention and care than he’d probably received in his whole life and that makes you such a better person than heartless scumbags who can just treat a poor aging horse like he’s worthless. Virtual hugs from Romford 💔

Loss is hard to get through, I do understand that with the loses I have experienced, but we will have better days. Remember the good you did for Dave.

😢💔 How about a couple of little goats? They would help keep the greenery down and they're so loving? Xx

So sorry for your loss, you were so very kind to Dave and there must be a void in your life, perhaps a little dog would the way forward. Take care and look forward to your next vlog.

So flippin sad for you Marc and for Dave too. He’s been there for an eternity. That’s not fair on the old fella. People disappoint. Life disappoints. Gutted. Why why why? Thoughts with you right now.

I am so relieved to hear that he is still alive. This could be a good thing for Dave too. Hopefully he has been given shelter from this terrible storm that is coming. Maybe Legacy of Legends could help you home a rescued pony when and if you are ready. They are "The Moons" on KZbin and they are in France. Sadie Petherick got Udea (a retired Olympic horse) from them. Just a thought. Something to consider. An older Shetland pony doesn't cost much - cheaper than a dog actually. Sending you Love and Hugs.
