THE WORST DISNEY GAME EVER - DINOSAUR, PS1/PS2: i don't have a nose review

Just when you thought I'd already plumbed the depths when it comes to the worst of the worst Disney games (we're all looking at you, Peetle Pan), there had to be one game that dared to be EVEN WORSE. Two, in fact. Yes, indeed, this month I'm covering two different (but very similar) games based on what is, in my opinion, one of the most undeservedly forgotten Disney movies of all time: Dinosaur. That's right - two terrible games for the price of one. Aren't you the lucky ones?
Both of these games adopt a somewhat interesting look at first glance. Rather than conforming to the usual half-hearted, cookie-cutter platforming template characteristic of a vast array of movie games, these games attempt more of an RPG-style form of gameplay (kind of), and the result is... well, see for yourself. Believe me - you iguana-don't want to play these games! They're ptera-ble. Nothing will tricera-top these tyrannosaurus wrecks! Okay, I'll stop.
Notes that probably no-one will read but I'm writing anyway because it makes me feel better:
1:05 - She was actually going to feed her chicks but saying 'she tried to eat you' packed more of a punch.
12:36 - I'm aware the Styrachosaurus was not a predator. I should probably have said 'enemy' instead, just to avoid confusion. Blame the game for needlessly making this dinosaur evil for no reason.
Thanks for watching again, everyone! I'm intending to be back at Christmas, and afterwards I'll be accepting more requests - I have a lot already but I've decided to cover some new ones next year if you have any more suggestions!

I think the weirdest part of these games is that they both have Spinosaurs in them as an enemy type and nether really give up much of a fight Considering the main threat is a Carnotaurus and is pretty much invincible, choosing a Spinosaur as a weaker, smaller enemy just feels strange. They could’ve gone with a Baryonyx or something but choosing a dinosaur that’s notorious for being the largest theropod for such a weak role will never not feel strange

Ironically, the game was perhaps the first piece of media to correctly portray the Spinosaurus with a crocodile-like snout (instead of looking like a T. rex with a sail). Remember, JP3 wasn’t until 2001, a year after Disney’s Dinosaur (film and game). I only saw the Spinosaurus in the game as a threat in Finding Neera, where it was very aggresive and could kill Neera while you were fighting it. It’s usually still aggressive when it returns in Mountain Lane, but by then if you leveled up well you can typically take them with no problem (I usually have Aladar maxed, so he can easily do it, instead I challenge myself by instead using Zini, where it’s a game of “hit and dodge.”)

I remember seeing Disney's Dinosaur at the theater for the first time. Seriously, that raptor scene terrified me as a kid. But in all honesty, it's actually pretty enjoyable & for a movie about dinosaurs in 2000's, the dinosaurs themselves look really good in the film. I even got some of the McDonald's Happy Meal toys of that film. When I was younger I really loved dinosaurs in general, because they looked so cool but now days when everyone is about science accuracy & the dreadful Jurassic World films, to me they lost their charm. I personally preferred dinosaurs that looked like giant lizards. Giving them feathers just makes them look weird, especially for carnivores of all things.

This applies to the PS1 version… At least with most of the “someone must be protected” scenarios, they typically don’t have to follow you the whole time nor are you given a time crunch. In “Baby Sitting,” the only thing that matters is to kill all the enemies that are close to the babies, after that you can take all the time you need and gain extra XP, which I recommend since you need to be able to kill enemies QUICKLY in the next level, “Finding Neera.” For “The Lake,” you can actually use fruit to heal Eema at the start (and do it more if her health drops too much) and also none of them move until Baylene does, so you can instead just take out all the enemies first and ensure none of them get attacked as you do the objective. For “Keeping Up to the Herd,” you can actually just park the elderly dinosaurs at the beginning (they stay where they are if you move too far ahead of them quickly) and wipe out all enemies first, yeah you’ll hear them whining the whole time but at least you can take your time with the enemies. For the Url section of “Confronting Kron,” you can walk ahead of him and wipe out incoming enemies, he’ll stay in place until you get close to him again. In “The Final Showdown,” Neera can be killed by the Carnotaur, but as long as you quickly attack it so it comes after you, that’s not an issue. The one major exception is “Finding Neera” since her health gradually drops with time, but again if you properly leveled up, it is VERY possible to take every enemy out before the Spinosaurus, farm XP for Aladar (who is the MVP in this level), and grab all the fruit and still have time to save her. I’ve done all that and she still has 60/300 HP left worst-case scenario. The game doesn’t care how much HP she has, just that she lives, and she is fully healed when she returns in the last level. Really the only non-boss level you can’t farm/strategically gain XP in is “Unpleasant Company,” since you have to RUN the whole time and you must get to the herd before the Carnotaur does.

@@jeremyallen5974 Flia the Pteranodon is not powerful enough to take that Spinosaurus out quickly enough to ensure Neera survives. I still love this game. It may have its flaws but the level design, the nostalgia, the soundtracks, the abundance of dinosaur enemies- I played this to completion on PC then played it for PS2 when my new computer wouldn’t let me play it. I didn’t mind this game as a child. But I absolutely love that film. How Dinosaur doesn’t go towards the animated classic line up in the UK, but rather, The Wild, I’ll never know. Plus the 2011 Winnie the Pooh film apparently doesn’t count as an animated classic, thus subtracting future animated classics down by one number. Such as Wreck-It Ralph being downgraded from Animated Classic no. 52 to 51, Frozen from 53 to 52, Big Hero 6 going from 54 to 53 etc. What is their logic?

@randellobardoni978 You actually do. I reached Kron at the end, but the game would not let me end the level because Eema was missing, even with everyone grouped together

I manage to complete 100% the ps2/pc/dreamcast version twice in recent years, which means beating all the beatable enemies and finding all the secrets. Ngl, i actually quite enjoy it, not the supreme perfect thing, but still fun experience.

The PS2 version is one game I feel I gave an unfair score and have been intending to address it at some point. I think when I covered it, I was already put off by the PS1 game. I also wish I'd have made this into 2 separate videos in retrospect.
