If the console freezes, it's called a hard lock, not a soft lock. Soft lock means that the game is running but it is impossible for you to progress/do anything

@@wernerderchamp The only thing I can think of that's to do with anything like that is corrupted data. this bug is more commonly associated with consoles that use memory cards or anything like that such as an sd card(for wii users). This can also probably happen to a game cartridge as well. basically, whatever keeps records of HOW the game is saved, can succumb to corrupted data if whatever thing that's holding the data(Your saves)gets damaged somehow. This actually once happened to me... I once had some Nintendo Game Cube games with a memory card on this old wii I used to use... one day, there was a power outage, and even though the darn thing was off.... the memory card had become corrupted. when I turned it on to play a game(Paper Mario ttyd)my saves looked fine at first, so I just started up a new file to re play the game from the beginning(Not knowing what was going on), Next thing I know... I go to hit a save block only for the save block to display a message that the data was corrupted and that saves can no longer happen(or something like that... I cant remember 100% what the error message was exactly but it was SOMETHING like that. this happened YEARS ago when I was in high school. am in my thirty's now). being confused.. I restarted my console to see if that would maybe fix the problem only to be met with ALL of my saves gone.... I then went to test out all of my other games and same thing happened.... my saves were gone AND the games(whichever one)would tell me the data was corrupted. luckily.. at the time, I had a friend who had a spare gc memory card and he gave me that one. had to re beat my games all over again but apart from that... I learned from what had happened to me, so from that point on.. I would ALWAYS remove the card from the console when I finished. Apart from corrupted data... I have NO KNOWLEDGE of how else a save can become unusable.

Technically if you can't reset the console in a hard lock it's a soft crash, then there is the soft crash which pressing the power button will fix everything (usually) and hard crash where you have to unplug your n64 or gaming device and this can corrupt your n64

In my opinion, the worst glitch in SMB3 is the world 5 airship glitch. Where if a player died, there was a chance for the ship to fly off the selectable level area, and you will have no choice but to restart your save file.

4:22 As someone who regularly watches Let's Plays of romhacks, I can tell you that slope collisions in Super Mario World are 100% whole wheat jank. In fact, the game's engine is pretty much held together with chewing gum and string. Nintendo just did a good job hiding those issues with their level design (a massive portion of the glitches in SMW are only known about thanks to romhacking since so many of them rely on setups that just never happened in the original game).

It's not really a glitch if it wouldn't occur in the base game though. Game programmers don't make real world physics, they make physics that work well within the game. Sure they could've considered more possibilities, but it doesn't really make sense to, especially in a time where updates couldn't be distributed to people who already bought the game

The super mario sunshine out of bounce glitch, if you move arround you don't die, Speed runner bring yoshi out of bounce with mario, and keep jumping arround untill they reach to walk under with yoshi, so they can reach the pipe on the island where yoshi as to normally used a boat.

Okay the part where you say Nintendo tried to patch out every glitch in 3DAS sounds weird. They didn't patch out any glitch in 64 (besides the Blj because it's based off Shindou), Sunshine (which has more glitches because it's emulated) and Galaxy

They did edit a few things in the Collection, namely the BLJ loses all momentum when attempting it (its much slower than on the N64 or Wii/Wii U versions) and (for some reason) some lines from Mario got outright replaced. Like instead of saying 'So long-a, Bowser!', or in the case of the DS remake 'Buh bye', he says a drawn out 'Buh byyyye'.

I was a jerk one time. There was a place at a fair where a guy set up his Nintendo and you pay him a buck and you can play. Well I was going to pull a 7 minute speedrun, but then I noticed the game was on 1-2 where you can pull off Minus world. So I got to Minus world and then paused the game and left. So the next person who paid a buck would be stuck in Minus world.

As an SMO speedrunner I have to tell you about a game crash that is relatively easy to find on accident. In Lake Kingdom, enter the hat door underwater that brings you into the subarea with zippers. Go to the final zipper, and capture it without collecting the key. Move as the zipper, and after the cutscene with the key plays, open the map. Warp to any checkpoint (including the Odyssey) and the game will close due to "an error". Save before doing this so you don't lose any progress. The reason the game has an error is because you are exiting a cutscene (moving as the zipper) while it is playing.

Uhh they never tried to patch the 3D All star games. They're all ports. Only reason why BLJ doesn't work is because they ported the version where this was patched already. Also the second DS glitch is not a glitch. Everything is working as intended, but because of how the game works, you weren't able to escape the situation. So this was more of an oversight. The same thing with the Bee glitch in Galaxy. Everything is working as it should, but the oversight here is that the creators didn't expect you to fly so high. The fact that you died in a credits scene tho, is a glitch, if that makes sense, since that wasn't supposed to happen.

There is actually a much worser glitch in 3D World. This glitch you have to be using co-op mode, one player as Rosalina and the other as Toad. Then you get to the end of 1-2 and do the koopa shell duplicating glitch, Toad has to jump inside of the duplicated shell, then rosalina must jump on the koopa so toad teleports to where the koopa origionally was. Get rid of the koopa, then aim the shell at the flag and then when its coming back to u, do the thing that Rosalina does and then if the shell touches the flag, the game will completely crash. And you actually have to reset the Wii U entirely to fix it.

The instant game over occurs because when you fill out the 16Byte space in the RAM with 128 units of information (in this case lives) and you add 1 more will cause the whole value of that dedicated space to loop back to 0. That means the system does this 128 + 1 = 0 lives. 128 is the max value for a 16Byte memory space so it can't take anymore than that or it will cause an overflow error by overwriting and adjacent memory space that is not meant to hold that information.

Not a softlock. The game actually crashes with a floating point exception due to Mario colliding with what looks like out of bounds territory. Obviously, this crash can only happen on console or extremely accurate N64 emulators. All related to this "Parallel Universe" info.

The worst glitch is in Super Mario 64 DS. You can easily miss one of the stars. And you wouldn't even know it. In my first playthrough I had 149/150 stars and was denied access to the last one. I had to restart the game from scratch. It's the worst glitch because it takes so much time to replay it all again.

8:48 Just a note: Another flag pole softlock glitch in Nsmbw that is MUCH more likely to occur is found in the first Coin Battle course. If anyone ground pounds onto the top of the flag pole, the bricks they walk across after will behave like they have been collected, and will somehow make the player stop moving forward and leave Mario walking for eternity.

In Paper Mario 64: You can permanently lock your save file in Chapter 5, so here how to do it, go to the largest room in Mt Lava Lava, where the 2 big red springs, hit the first spring, and then hit the 2nd spring, seems normal, but you want to hit the 2nd spring without hitting the 1st, it doesn’t seems like a big deal but it is, In English, the game thinks we finished cutscenes that didn’t begin, after doing this, do a precise spin jump into the save block so we can move with the save block sequence up, move the curse between Don’t Save and Save, doing so makes Mario Jump without pressing the jump button at all, after this, make you will to the tallest zip line in the room, go underneath the zip line, and move the curse to the Save Option, and now the last step takes sometime, you need to hit the Save Option where Mario saves and let’s go at the zipline, underneath the zipline is a spiny, the goal is to encounter him, also one thing, before trying this, Mario needs one health remain with no life shrooms, anyways as soon as you hit the Save Option, if you did it correct, you save above a spike spiny, hitting the top of him, instantly kill us, but if you load the file again, Mario will be in a looping death animation, causing infinite game overs and death screens, meaning that you have to start the game over from prologue to escape, that’s one of the worst Mario glitches in history

10:25 there’s another softlock at the same place. If you manage to land on the button without triggering the first bowser cinematic (which is done by not touching the ground on a certain zone) bowser will spawn and then the game will freeze

These aren't Glitches, they're bugs. A glitch is typically a hardware fault... I won't get into the explanation... but, the short versions is: if the error is entirely in software, it's a bug. If the error can only be produced with some form of bad hardware, then it's a glitch, including non-repeatable errors cased by power surges. (and yes, this includes hardware that was just made wrong, like the original Pentium's math processing. It can only include scratched discs.) The only exception to this rule is with graphical garbage being refereed to as a glitch, because most early glitches resulted in such visuals.

Super Mario Land has a very bad glitch, but it's only present in older cartridges and not noticeable. When you finish a level, it turns the screen off to load the graphics for the next level. But it doesn't wait for the current frame to finish rendering. Apparently, this can actually damage the screen, according to Nintendo's programming manual. So later cartridges were updated to not do that.

So I was in the sewers luigis mansion 3 with toad and playing co op with my sister and we shot toad at the ceiling and he got stuck in an invisible box. I had to reload the save file because we couldn’t get toad out. Rip toad

Honestly the worst glitch in Super Mario Galaxy is the Melty Molten 100 purple coins camera glitch, happens to me when collecting 80 coins and had to restart a painfully long process of getting all of them again.

I don't know if this is a game glitch or my SNES but, it would delete our Super Mario World. save files at random. There were no triggers that I know of. I remember a time I played all night and got all the way to chocolate island only for it to delete the save file. It was so frustrating. My mom was like an expert at the game, she was the only one of my family who could beat the special worlds. Well, she got there.....I think you know what happened. I think it was a game glitch not the system because it never deleted the files of any of our other games.

The smb underwater glitch reminds Me of when I am using hot glue and squirt a bit of glue on something forgot where I left the thing I was trying to glue and then when I find it the glue is dry and I have to peel it off. Idk why but I think it is bc mario goes into the wall and when he tries to get out he is stuck aka the glue is dry lol
