match costs are a somewhat sabermetric approach to contextualizing match performance. they utilize some relatively complex formulas but the tl;dr of it is that they give a rough idea of how well a player performed relative to everyone else in the match. depending on the formulas these can trend higher or lower so you need to look at scores compared to others within the same match to get a feel for just how good a score was, but suffice it to say anything over 3.0 indicates that a player had an outrageously good match. you can find the exact formula for this particular variant here: imgur.com/7KFwcUS

Not really representative here because score v1 tournament and it got inflated, but 3.5 is generally something you'd see when you put a 3 digit or low 4 digit in the middle of 6 digits playing maps way above their skill level
