I am already seeing a difference …. Years ago I was 150 by walking 2 miles to school and back and eating so so … as soon as I stopped walking and drove I the burbs I started to pack in pounds … my body had a set point and it was confused at my sudden drop in 2 miles a day I started following Dr Pelz and she just made soooo much sense out of it all …. This is what I do ( I will say giving up pasta as an Italian is hard !!) I mix up my fasting sometimes 8:16 sometimes 4: 20 I only eat in that designated window I only eat Whole Foods and 150 grams of protein since my goal is 150 lbs I drink water black coffee Green tea I eat 2 sometimes 3 meals a day in that window I don’t count calories I do eat a small avacado a day … I walk but not miles and miles I don’t do it to lose necessarily but for heart health I lift weights but free weights squats no gym just you tube 2 3 days a week I lost 20 lbs

Back in the 70s UK, we had breakfast at 7.30 before school, lunch at 12noon and evening meal would be cooked from fresh produce and ready by 5.30pm Nothing to eat after that.. Not a lot of obesity back then, or processed foods, the only takeaway was the local chip shop, and that was a treat.

Wow a 36hour fast! I can't even do a part of some day fast I am so starving. Plus some doctors oppose Dr Mindy saying fasting is not worth it. Even if she Loves it. She has said it. She loves fasting. Which should Ifollow. Fasting or for me starving for 5 days or should I listen to the doctors who say its Not worth it! And I am Not trying to get pregnant yet!

I appreciate this distillation of knowledge, I feel frustrated that I can't feel my body cycles, I have ignored my body and its cycles all of my life, dieted, if it worked I would be a supermodel, I am so upset and angry at doctors who even today dismiss me. I have been forced to 'know' MORE than my doctors about nutrition!. Taking a deep calming breath, thank you all

Been on this intermittent fasting for years now. And have been in and out with the 1 meal a day fast. But I really been touching on this 1 meal a day dinner to dinner and man my body, mind clarity, energy, it’s just so different. I look at things differently and don’t get so worked up, I feel really chill and relaxed it’s like my mind is meditating and peaceful 24 hours

@@user-ru1jt3ve8u I don't know what you've tried already that didn't work for you, but if you haven't already I'd suggest reading/listening to Professor Tim Noakes and following his dietary advice. He basically suggests increasing your (natural/healthy) fat intake and drastically decreasing your carbohydrate intake. After several years of frustrating post-menopausal weight creep, that is what worked for me. Without feeling hungry or deprived, I lost the annoying belly fat I'd put on and have more energy. I've used that energy to get back into weight lifting (I just use dumbbells at home) and the resistance training has restored the muscle I'd lost from sarcopenia. I actually feel (and look) better than I did before menopause. When I first tried intermittent fasting a few years ago, it didn't work for me. I felt like I was getting weaker and compromising muscle each time I fasted for more than 12-14 hours. Since increasing my fat and meat consumption, I am having no problem with intermittent fasting. I did my first 24 hour fast this week and it was easier than I'd anticipated. I'm at a healthy BMI so am not looking to lose fat at this point, just to stay healthy and keep my immune system (and muscles) strong as I age. Hope this helps 🙏

When I was eating 6 small meals a day I was a fat burning machine and I lost 60 lbs and out on muscle and toned my body to look the best I have ever looked ... I was fit like that for about 6 years and then my lifestyle changed bc I became very busy to where I couldn't meal prep and no time to hit the gym bc I was studying 12 hrs a day and hit burnout then I became a nurse and the stress of it all I packed the pounds on and became obese. When I tried the same formula years later I wasn't seeing results anymore ...I think I became insulin resistant or didn't give it enough time

There's varying ways to fast like : 'OMAD' one meal a day, water fasting, alternate day fasting, and dry fasting. I was gaining weight at some point when IF and like she said in the opening statement, you change how you do your fast than simply stay the same all the time. Personally water fasting helped doing it in alternate days but making my fasts prolong than for a singular day, really helped mentally and physically.

@@djkhaledswineglass8386 so u would do one day water fasting and one day what, regular fasting? I dunno, my body doesnt seem to follow any rules. If I have a bit of rice i'll lose weight, if I do a strict keto day i'll gain weight.... what's up with that? I got so used to IF that now i don't even look at my watch, I eat when i'm hungry, which is never at breakfast. It'll be at noon at the earliest, sometimes 3pm. I hit menopause several years ago, yet back then I could lose consistently on keto, but now, i keep going down and then back up, then down, then up, etc..... for no bloody reason. I have no clue why. I did the 36hrs fasting, lost, then continued with regular IF and keto and in 3 days had put back on what I had lost, again, for no reason. Then when I ask Dr Pelz for help, i'm told to join the academy for 200 USD a month, which is massive. I cant afford that, so not much help.

There is something about the parts of the discussion that talk about men using this information to "unlock" the right or more optimal response in women around them that makes me bristle. Especially the father/daughter scenario. It is one thing to educate an individual about their biology to empower them to make more helpful choices or to educate people about the fact that our biological make ups are complex and vary based on the many layers of our identities, so we can be more understanding about how people's responses may be affected. It is entirely something else to tell men to vary their approach to women based on a goal and their menstrual cycle. It feels manipulative and like a shortcut around autonomy and agency. This information feels deeply private and personal. We all, after all, have to show for the world whether we are at our best or not, regardless of the cause. We are expected to be able to resolve conflict or perform at work, even during times that we are exposed to stressors, whether that has to do with things like financial difficulties, familial challenges, or shedding your uterine lining.

@scwasty
@scwasty 3 ай бұрын
I am SO glad you posted this, I actually cringed when I heard her say this. Agree with you 100%. Nothing to do with ‘hiding’ our menstrual cycles or anything along those lines, it’s the image of men tip-toeing around their significant others based on what their app has told them because we all KNOW an app will be developed to tell men where in their cycle a woman is. Let’s remember Trump - Megyn Kelly circa 2015 when he slammed her for being angry tying it to her period, when she was a actually doing her job and calling him out on his lies - I don’t remember the exact details of it, but it’s disgusting to think men have to approach us differently based on our hormones. Yes! The father - daughter scene made me lose it. The testosterone in men fluctuates in men throughout the day, should we approach them only at certain times of the day when T is low? Sorry, as much as I can get behind fasting, this is ridiculous to me. Edited to add: in no way whatsoever do I support Megyn Kelly. 🤮
@scwasty
@scwasty 3 ай бұрын
Completely agree, feels very disingenuous and conjures images to me of men tip-toeing around their spouses / significant others depending on where they are in their cycles. You can just see the app being developed for men (presumably, but not necessarily) exposing where we are in our cycles so they can keep track every morning. I actually cringed hearing about the father-daughter part, so unnecessary. I have no aversion to talking about our periods to men or each other for varying reasons, but it’s quite another in her description; you put it much more eloquently stating ‘a shortcut around autonomy & agency’. It immediately brings to mind the Trump-Megyn Kelly 2015 comment about her being on her period because she was ‘angry and combative’ in the debate. (as we all know by now, that same behaviour displayed by a man is seen as empowering and strong). Thank you for the comment. (edited to add, in no way do I support Megyn Kelly 🤮)

Women and men are biologically different. Am referring to how we are wired due to our natural hormones which is what drives us to shine in areas we are naturally meant to. This podcast is so full of knowledge on how to examine your own body and be in tune to our needs. This is WHY many cultures women are catered to differently. Now in the Western society in the name of "equality" women actually don't strive. I remember my great grandmother and grandmother would give a break to the young female grand kids a break from house chores during their period. I specifically remember my grandmother would allow some of her menstruating grand daughters to bunk in her room. She would make sure we had hearing pads, offer foods that would help us and just allow us to relax and chill. We had no chores other than cleaning up after yourself. All my male cousins knew why and to leave us alone, most importantly they were raised in a manner to ck in with the elders if they needed anything. Many cultures have a period room or even a outside area where a woman is allowed to distress and away from the frenzy of a full house of daily stressors. It made sense why now in the light of this podcast information.

I heard what you said about women who had breast cancer having a greater chance of cancer not returning if they do intermittent fasting right after treatment. Well, I was doing intermittent fasting when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I had a lumpectomy and 3 weeks of radiation and all is well now. Mine was estrogen fed. I still do intermittent fasting and have cut way back on sugar and carbs. Also, I eat more veggies and fruits and have changed up my exercising some too. I recently did a 3 day water fast too. Any thoughts?

Dr. Mindy claims that day one through 10 is the best time to work out really hard or do an extended fast. But day one through 10 is when you’re on your period. I’m actually more hungry during that time and more lazy. I don’t wanna work out as hard.

That really surprised me as well. I'm menopausal now, but when I was cycling I was by far at my worst (and least energetic) for the first few days of my cycle, and I didn't suffer from PMS symptoms. My daughter is the same way. So I don't think this information/advice is one-size-fits-all.

I think it really depends. For me day 1-10 has always been my least hungry most clarity days. But a lot of other women don’t have that. I believe Dr. Mindy Pell would say, you might have to do a reset for a couple of months until you can do it this way. So don’t force it, but see when in your cycle you do feel this way. And just get to know your own cycle.

I’m sure she meant your first 10 days won’t mess with your hormones as it would the last 10 days. Since you need carbs to build progesterone, you don’t want to fast the week or so before your period starts.

I still don’t understand how much food do we eat in our eating window? We’re not supposed to count calories, if I eat 1 meal and a snack during my 4 hour eating window. That’s could be 1000 to 1600 calories 50%fat 35%protein 15%carbs I’m post menopausal and would like to loose 15 to 20 lbs.

I think she would recommend eating until you are satisfied. Unless you have underlying issues that affect how you perceive satiation, that works for most people. You shouldn't restrict yourself if you're hungry during your "feasting" window, but you also shouldn't stuff yourself in anticipation of fasting.

I love your content, but I'm so sad to see that you've started with the 'click-bait' cover images for your videos. I'm assuming these make a difference, and I'd love to see your channel grow, but I wish it didn't have to be by doing it this way. It's the same with Dr Chatterjee's podcast, that always have these click-bait, catastrophic-ish titles. It's so far from the content you both produce and your values. I hope at some time you feel that you don't need to have these type of titles 'Loose the belly fat!' stressful titles because it doesn't align at all with the knowledgeable and compassion conversations you have.

I feel the same way. Particularly because as a long time listener, it is so misrepresentative of his inclusive, compassionate, respected by medical and scientific peers style of content. It’s even made me less likely to recommend these videos to patients or friends as the titles are a bit embarrassing, and I feel I have to add a disclaimer saying it’s not just about the title, there’s well presented scientific knowledge from someone I’ve listened to for years and respect their knowledge base and passion to deliver more information to people to empower themselves to use food and nutrition as medicine.

What am I doing wrong? I don't eat all day on most days only eating dinner. I don't eat a large amount and I stop eating when I feel satisfied, never full. Sometimes I eat lunch but it's rare. I use a walker at all times as I have MS and my balance is poor. I don't exercise so I'm sure I don't burn many calories but I fast at least 18-22 hrs every day. I don't lose weight. I weigh 269 lbs. Have you checked into the parasite connection with MS? If you have parasites eating up your nutrition, then you may be malnourished and deficient in many nutrients. I would look at an antiparasitic diet and cleansing. The hardest part of parasite cleansing for me if the hardest, but you’re already doing the hardest part! Just need to add in the right herbs to eliminate the parasites.
