The Worst Item In DST

Had questionnaire done a while back to see what the worst items in Don't
Starve Together is. I feel the seedshell is probably the worst item in the game.
Honestly not feeling to well about how this one came out but Its out now I hope you enjoy!

I honestly can't think of anything that could make this item better, because it just exemplifies how badly sea content was implemented.

Make it shrapnel that explodes outwards, and has a damage radius of 3x3 instead of "Slightly more than one tile". Increase the damage to 50. Make seaweed drop, say, a stack minimum. Alternatively, make it placeable and buff its damage to 50. Getting hit makes it explode violently and can deal double damage to enemies standing on it's tile. Maybe even a bundle item made with planks and rope that deals even more in a 5x5 radius?

Especially those big ugly circular floating contraptions that they call a "boat". What where they thinking. Nothing in the game should be circular, the entire world is made up of square tiles. It fits so irregularly 😂

I feel giving it a circular 3x3 tile radius, and have it attack more like a dart, should fix the problem. (As the main problems is the inaccuracy and the small attack radius.

Maybe they can be used against the Ancient Fuelweaver? I don't know if they can hit the unseen hands, but they can help clear out the woven shadows. Although at that stage weather pains are probably just better.

I feel like the value of seed shells is that they're a byproduct of collecting something more desirable. Like, say you're doing a sea base in the early game and killing a few seaweeds at night for some easy food, the seed shells can be traded for sea birds to get even more food for the trouble, or can be used to get a bird for your birdcage without going to the mainland just to farm spiders. (Although how you got said birdcage without the reeds from a swamp is another story). They're basically free birds every time you kill a seaweed, you just have to go through the effort of throwing them at the birds. That being said, come on Klei, let us stuff seed shells with gunpowder for grenades.

Another purpose for the low tier items is that as a new player you might not know how to get a good item for insulation but know how to get the worse one it can definitely be helpful for those inexperienced

You missed the fact that you can use them to put holes in boats! This can be useful against pirate raids if you have yet to get the cannon blueprint! Much cheaper than panflute fighting or cannons anyway.

Maybe for wortox players, you could put 20 butterflies and a seedshell into a bundling wrap for a "medkit". Although don't know about the timing on if you could pick up the shell and kill them before they move away

I think they will fly away before you can pick up the shell but that can be fixed by holding the seedshell out of the bundle. I like this idea!

I think the intention is for it to be a type of boomerang substitute for when you are seafaring or doing a ocean challenge. For example, getting aggro from malbatross or a narwhale.

I usually use them to label a backtrack watch to know what clock teleports me to the seaweeds so I can farm barnacles.

To me the most interesting part is stunning animals at range. I’m not sure it need to be a good weapon on top of that because that gives them a pretty unique use. Admittedly, it’s a pretty useless use at the end of the day and I can’t see it coming up very often, but I like that it’s mechanically unique. It gives the DST science nerds something new to play with at the very least

The miss part isn't as relevant as you make it seem because it's really a matter of proper aiming. Instead the problem is in low range, it takes forever to farm, and above all else the damage is reduced below 25. I don't know what klei are thinking but I'd rather have a weapon than a weird capture device. Also, they deal 75 damage when plants use them so you know...

Spiky trees, they give you sticks and logs but can’t ever respawn. They have a use but it’s worse than twiggy trees and I don’t think I’ve ever bothered chopping them down

they are good for burning. plus its better because the drop the same loot when burnt plus a charcoal. and take 9 less swings to chop.

I wish they add a craftable sea stack or something to be able to move the sea weeds closer to land, everything from sea weeds is kinda useless cause even the foods are just ocean clones of easier to make foods. But if they could be put by the shore then they have atleast a decent use since you won't have to boat so far to find a decent cluster of sea stacks.

Those puffy west and summer frest type tier 1 clothes are a joy to find from skeletons lol. They help a lot when starting a new world

I remember my 1st dst world after playing a looot of ds I did not rush to get to sailing at all, and when I did attack a seaweed once I set off.. I just died xD Cause I didn't know anything about them So I would say that it's not an early game item, but it seems to have early game use. On the other hand, breezy vest, winter cap, cat cap and such are early game items with early game uses

The only way this could be remotely useful is if it was a VERY early-game item, so you don't need to waste grass and twigs for traps and silk for bird (would be good for a cheap mf like me, I like to save every resource) But if you can build a boat, find and kill a seaweed, you're surely not early-game.

What about the costumes? They provide a slight wetness protection than can be found on even protective gear such as football helmets, making them literally worthless (at least in practical means)

Though they are rather useless alone They can be used to get items with the stage depending on what dress set you are wearing.

it could be used to farm birds, but the question to that is whether or not there's a better method that is cheaper, and if there is another reason to farm seaweeds, then use the semi-useful byproduct to farm birds instead of making a farm. Edit: it may be useful for pvp as it could be easier to get than electric feathers when it's not winter. I don't know since I don't play DST, but rather DS.

I honestly just use em for battle royals with other people But they should at least do tentacle spike damage but that's the absolute LEAST I suggest But the actual true worst item is THE SCARFE AND ROBE FROM THE MID SUMMER CAWNEVAL now listen it is an absolute useless item because it requires tickets a SPECIFIC time and pretty big amount of resources in total for a SMALL warmth and don't know if it is a bug that has been patched or not it has for a little while now done NEGATIVE SANITY

Yeah now please talk about the awful balance of Rockjaw sharks WHY IS IT A "HOARD MOB"??? and why can it deal more damage *unarmored* than actual bosses??? Edit: the reason I bring up sharks is seaweeds and rockjaws are the few things at sea that genuinely terrify me as a veteran sailor with rockjaw sharks being the only creature that literally defies all logic (update stopped sharks from rotating the world)

I hear that. I recently started a world where I'm trying to make an ocean base, and I am now actually afraid of Rockjaws. Why can you successfully dodge its attack, move in to damage it, and it immediately starts a second attack? I understand that if it hits you, it'll attack again unless you move away. But why does it randomly go for round two if it misses? Casually left me at 6 Hp and slamming pierogie for my life.

Sharks are the worst, and they don't even drop good loot. If they dropped something like the gnarwail horn it'd be fine but nope. They are just a mobile form of anxiety especially if you're sailing at night.

Tip for rockjaws with 2 players or cc crown or followers, as soon as it comes onto the boat, hold f on it instantly for it to be stunlocked for awhile, often enough to kill it.
