Honestly I wouldn’t mind having the output of the worm bin be tied to your fishing level, where the chance for wild bait is increased along with the amount of normal bait increasing each level. So like at level 10 you could get like 10 a day with a medium or high chance for wild bait. One mixed seed yieds 44 fiber and .4 mixed seeds (both numbers on average) which is almost 4,500 gold in tea saplings (of course you have to factor in the cost of wood and wild seeds - but the former can be bought cheaply in year one while the latter is - next to fiber - the only thing you can plant all winter, so you will have tons of it).

If you think about 3 crabpots, that's 3 bait per day. Thus, a chest can contain 84 bait for a month, or 336 bait for a year. 15g per day (1680g per year) or 50 fiber, 1 gold bar, 1 iron bar, and 25 hardwood for every 3 crabpots. The max size of a custom map is 31200 square tiles, and if a crabpot filled every tile, you would need 10400 worm bins or 1 chest.

I like them with the Automate mod and the one where I can just spawn the items in and not pay for the bins--my crab pot empire, my worm bins, recycling machines, wood chippers, and deconstructors!--but even with the tons of worm bins, every so often I check them and have to chuck a few thousand bait into my automate chest

Worm Bins are VERY useful if you're doing certain challenge runs, like a boycott challenge that forbids you from buying bait. And it can be handy with the automate mod as well. But yeah I still agree that it's price should be made cheaper, and I wouldn't be opposed to it becoming available sooner.

The worm bin is best in early game, using maybe only 1 or 2, just to keep your bait stock high. You get one free with the community center, and that's enough for me.

Worm Bin is literally KEY to my Hermit run - since I can't leave my farm very often, I spend a LOT of time fishing on the Beach Farm. Again, since I don't leave often, the small amount of bug meat I get from the mines is MINIMAL, and GONE by day 3. Fished chests can contain Iron and Gold ores, meaning the only thing I need is Hardwood, which I got from cutting 6 billion trees and levelling. Worm Bin means I'm not stuck fishing up trash for a whole month.

I have a worm bin on my farm in my current play through. It's the reward for the Fish Farmer's bundle, one of the most difficult/time-consuming remixed bundles to complete. I saw no reason not to place it, and It gives me bait every day, which is nice, but I wouldn't have crafted it.

Im one of those players who purchases the least amount of stuff from shops I can if I'm able to get it myself. Is that efficiënt? No, not at all, does it feel like the right thing to do? Yes. I don't really buy resources like bait, tackle, ores / coal, stone and wood. I get machines or farm it myself. Its fun and feels like a farm thing to do haha. The worm bin and recycling machines in my tiny farm pond really work together well with the few crab pots I have. Even though I have a chest there, thats to quick dump everything and select the same trash to put in the recycling machines. Its slightly faster that way and feels like the right thing to me. P.s. I do use sandy for deluxe speedgrow and trade with the desert trader obviously, I got those jades / ruby's from my farm production (crystallariums) / mines. That being said, yes, the materials used for the wormbins are quite a lot, suprised me too when I made some. Thanksfully I don't run a 100 crab pots or so haha.

I'm absolutely delighted to have see a 5 minute rant complete with many pieces of evidence against the worm bin, iconic Sal I have a worm bin in my current run, I guess because if I want perfection I'll have to have crafted it eventually and it'll maybe pay itself off? I don't fish often and I dislike buying bait if I don't need to, so it seemed like a meh trade off to have some on hand. It did hurt given that the farm is literally called tea and finery and is ultimately going to be very Elegant and tea centric, but...idk. I had never crafted one before lol

Worm bins make sense for my automate crab pot thingy. I just put a couple of bins next to a chest and a insane amount of crab pots and leave it for a couple of days. A recycling machine is also nice to have on automate next to me chest.

I never used the worm bin but I was ready to think even though it's too expensive to make, its trade off would be that it's more convenient than running to Willy's shop. Eh, it's like the total opposite of convenient! Like I can't imagine less convenient mechanics!
@JadedJasantha Жыл бұрын
Reasonable arguments, I do use worm bins because I generally don't fish on sunny days, so they generate bait for me to use when it does rain!

Genuinely the only time i have used the worm bin is using the automate mod, with a few worm bins connected to my crab pots. Completely unnecessary but it was a use

I only ever craft one worm bin, i thought it would passively store bait, like the machine for animals does. I was sorely disappointed. I think that would be a good change, if possible. Instead if having to check it, it is just a storage container that generates bait

I use Automate and crab pots, and lots of them. I just put a big stack of cheap bait in the chest linked to my crab pots. There's no timeline where I look at that crafting recipe with any other reaction than sheer disbelief.

Honestly the worm bin is so much better in the context of automation mods imo. It’s what makes crab pots the perfect “set it and forget it” resource collector. Have 5-6 crab pots set up with 2 worm bins in the ocean and just forget about it. Come back later and you have ample materials for crab cakes and a fair chunk of refined quartz and wool (if you just throw a recycling machine in the mix)
@tanakisoup10 ай бұрын
The only acceptable use for worm bins are if you use the automate mod. Throw one of those bad boys next to a chest and 5 crab pots and you get infinite sashimi for the rest of time with no input. Bonus points if you tack on a recycling machine letting you now get infinite refined quartz too

Now that I thought about i a little ( for 2 days ) I would like to build a worm bin if it had chance to produce magic bait,so you would need it in the endgame as well when tou tried to catch the last remaining fish and you ´re in the hurry
@Justicetom21 Жыл бұрын
Here's the single advantage you get from the worm bin: You can, without accessing a chest, immediately put bait into an empty slot in your inventory and then empty that slot. It is more inventory-space economical than carrying around bait, and faster than using a chest. But the output you get from a worm bin is inconsistent so either you have more crab pots than you can service or you have to empty the slot manually anyway
@PolarBearBlue Жыл бұрын
Make the worm bin an actual device for composting in game. Have it so that if you apply it to crops and they die over the season those dead crops have a chance to produce fertilizer. Also have it so that it wards off birds, making it a level appropriate upgrade to scarecrows.
@OtakuDeju Жыл бұрын
For all the crafting materials involved with it the worm bin certainly should provide more out of it. 5 to 15 bate a day with a 15% percent chance of wild bate and a 3% percent chance of magic bate.
@Quintingent Жыл бұрын
Ngl I had completely blocked from my memory that it takes gold to make. I can only assume that the material costs were decided based on its position in the level progression, rather than as an actual representation of its worth. It's honestly a bizarre item. If it were cheaper, it could pay itself back in a reasonable time. If it produced more/better bait, that could also do it. But neither is the case. It almost makes me wonder if it was maybe originally supposed to accumulate worms so that you didn't have to check it daily, which would at least make it less of a chore to use, but even then that still doesn't fix the issue of the high cost.

It was worth building two for my run with the automate mod which makes chests operate things around it. Having a constant drip feed for bait into the chest so it could operate the crab pots in the ocean and river were nice. But without that, nah it’s not worth it

I feel the same way about the level requirement of cookout kits. You're better off upgrading your house instead of making a cookout kit for every day you need to cook. Sure, save all recipes for when you need it, you say? Well, it needs level 9 Foraging. Once again, by the time you get your level 9, your house is upgraded.

Here's a different buff: when you feed the worm bin a crop, it produces an amount of bait equal to the crop's sell price after (bait produced / 50) days.
@CommandantLennon Жыл бұрын
Mods obviously don't factor into the question of vanilla balance, but worm bins with the automate mod allow you to simply set-and-forget crab pots, as they just endlessly refill them.
@ceepert2153 Жыл бұрын
Another way to buff the worm bin may be to give it its own type of bait. The price and level requirements can stay the same, so yes its expensive and high in the skill but you get a better bait. You cant buy or directly craft the bait so it can be quite a good chunk better. Maybe giving a quality buff to anything caught in addition to the decreased catch time of normal bait. With that there is now an actual reason to use it. You get more valuable fish but you dont get a ton of fishing attempts per day unless you wanna spend a ton of money into like 30 worm bins
@dartimes6048 Жыл бұрын
Worm bins are underrated. Yes they are expensive, but if you are running the automate mod with crab pots and recycling machines you will never have to check your crab pots until you want to sell.

Worm bins are actually useful with the automation mod to, well, automate bait. It's not economical, but the cost is for the sake of not having to resupply an automated system.
