I had a 5L VP. I feel your pain. You made sure the rotor was pointing the right way but didn't see whether the distributor body was rotated to the exact position. That will make *all* the difference in the world. 1 degree of distributor body rotation make 2 degrees difference in timing.

Electronic ignition as long as the button is in the same way it comes out will work fine as computer does the timing for you

@@richarddeane5389 The Hall effect sensor is attached to the body of the distributor. Rotating the body puts the sensor in a different position in relation to the chopper wheel. That will affect the static timing.

I know what you are going threw.It is a pain in the backside.To put a distributor in.I have a vt 304. I had to do it a couple times.Every time I had do it.I always cut my self.The worse part is setting the timing. have to use a curved angle spanner.I have never takin the manifold off. I always put the cap and leads on together.putting the cap clips on is a pain.But there is always a way.The XD and Xe 6 cylinder ford falcon were the same.Cap in between the manifold.

Doing the timing on these engines is very easy, buy yourself a set of crows feet spanners, it makes the job so much easier.

Little tip i see youve removed the little wire clips from the injectors , you push them forward or "pinch" them and the plug will pull up and off saves loosing them 😂

Same problem on my VL 5L I heard you can replace the module inside the distributor instead of stumbling across a Chinese dizzy TBA

My mate flew up from Melbourne- asked him about doing it with the manifold on. Peice of piss- He said you just need to get a new dizzy. F##kn fancy that ball bags i just happen to have one hear. Yep still not running

Hi, nice video i feel your pain, i was able to do HQ-WB and early VB VC commodores myself, but when i had my 99 Vt, i said NO and asked my mechanic to do it, - Fat hands and not enough skill Points are dead easy and the early HEI with the external bosch module are also easy - however with aftermarket, you neet to throw out the aftermarket chip and use a proper bosch, or at least buy a spare and keepi it in the glovebox My history with these is sketchy as some units will run a few years others a few weeks or months Also use the thermal paste, if the supplied tube it dry go to a computer shop and buy atric cooler thermal paste it is mostly the same thing but not auto / car grade What brand distributor did you buy as i hate to say unless it is genuine bosch it is chinese junk Nothing is more annoying than buying something new and it is junk Next time you take out the dizzy or take of the inlet manifold, stick a clean rag in the dizzy hole and clean towel on the inlet - it make the final clean up much easier Regards George
