there is so much truth to this video. i've worked at costco for a year now. first as an cashier assistant and now, member services. lol i hated it as an assistant. boxing is the most boring thing and i absolutely hate doing carts and helping members load their purchases into their cars. i wanted to quit so many times and so i asked to do member services and finally applied. what you said about the job is absolutely true. a small minority of members are just awfully rude--both at the entrance and even worse at the exit. some don't want to show you their cards, try to bring their pets in, and then don't want us to check their carts because they have no patience at all and tell us they aren't thieves and you spend the whole day telling people they can't enter through the exit door. most cashiers can agree to what you said about that job too. the front end is a mad house and sh*t show but it's costco's bread and butter.

He had to hose down the meat department with very hot water. He would come home soaking wet, shoes and all. He ended up purchasing his OWN boots. They weren’t even bothered. The thing about "did you find everything Okay?" is that nobody asking that awkward question has any power or ability or freedom to DO anything about it if the customer says nope, nope they didn't find everything okay. The cashier can't just lock down the line and go do or fix whatever wasn't okay. They can't leave that spot. They probably can't solve whatever it is, and the customer is about to leave the store anyway so they clearly didn't care that much about whatever it was or else they would have just found somebody to assist them on tbe floor. They don't hesitate to ask for help, you know. So that insipid and meaningless question at the register does nothing but emphasize the disconnect between the store and the customers, because it asks a stupid question it is not prepared to answer. Yet they persist in doing this. Try it some time. When they ask if you found everything okay, tell them no, you found it not okay and see what happens. Virtually nothing. You will be lucky if you get a baffled cashier staring back at you because they have no idea how to handle any negative answers. They're not even actually asking the question at all. It's just in a script and they probably just say the words without understanding what they mean.

Updating things cost money (more so than you think). If they replace the registers, they'll have to replace a good amount of the backend. This is not easy. I've been involved in several migrations to new systems. It can take years and millions of dollars. And when its all done, there are always bugs to work out... always. You need to keep things flowing smoothly or you lose more money. Cost plus loss ends up forcing them to raise prices, which may lose customers. So if its not broke, don't "fix" it. So many companies' downfall can be linked to unnecessary improvements.

To add on to the cashier, one thing that should be mentioned is dealing with the incompetence of people. It’s not everyone but there are a lot of people who are lacking in situational and spatial awareness. Going through the employee side of the register, showing up to the register without a membership, waiting on someone to bring the last few items, not unloading stuff onto the belt, not putting the dividers to separate transactions. There’s probably more, but those are the ones I can list off the top of my head.

In my regions, the Cart crew is part of Front end, so We would work both inside and out, I did carts probably 40% of the time I was in that department and it was bitter sweet. CONS: -weather can suck sometimes, if it's snowing, raining hard, or super hot. -drivers suck and you have to be on the look out always -sometimes we would work carts and then inside, and if it was hot or rainy we'd have to work wet and stinky inside and that kinda sucks -people leave carts everywhere, so youre always chasing down strays before they hit some car and blame it on you. PROS: -You typically don't have a manager or supervisor breathing down your neck -It's a nice break from the chaos inside (it's a different type of chaos outside, but not as loud or annoying) -depending on who was working outside at the time, it could be a good time and great for making friendships at work. -you get to work at your own pace for the most part -it's a good workout. I lost some weight by doing that, lol.

I'm sorry members weren't nice to you in the Food court. Not sure why they would treat you different because you worked there, personally I try and said thank you to everyone. I think everyone would be happier if some item, like Ice Cream is out, that a sign be posted, so if you are waiting in line just for that, you aren't disappointed. As far as the cashier, I think it is partly a personality difference...working retail, I do my best work detailing the department I work in, and I really don't like standing at the POS and not being able to walk around. I like where it is is hot, so the employees standing by the doors contend with that like you contend with the cold. I've gone to the same store for many years, and some employees are still there from when it opened in the early 90's.

I think it really comes down to sometimes people are just having bad days and being hungry doesn't help and we get the bad end. Although we did have rude members, I still have very good fond memories of working in those departments. Being a Front End Cashier (and assistant) was great for a while, I think I just got bored with it's pretty fast and was craving something different :)

HA! wait until you become a stocker/merchandising cuzo. I've been working for 2 years (still going) in merchandising and it sucks ass. I've been drive the forklift and double jack, fast and proficient mind you plus extra work like helping someone that has worked longer than me bringing pallets down and helping my crew stock the isles, yet they have never offered me a higher position. Also there is favoritism, don't let the benefits fool you because there are other jobs that can provide the same benefits and even more, even more pay. Trust me, its a fucking scam.

Does Costco have a cart pusher position or do you have to apply for cashier assistant
@CostcoDude10 ай бұрын
In my area, the cart crew is part of the front end (cashier assistant) but I have heard that in other locations it can be it's own position. TBH though, the last time I heard this was a few years ago, so I can only speak for my region which is Northwest
@Cleanasdirt21823 ай бұрын
If you can’t handle the line ups at the cashiers, or making the effort to show your membership card at the entrance, or feel inconvenienced while they check your receipt before exiting the warehouse…. don’t become a member. Signing up entails you following the rules. Maybe it’s just different here in Canada, but every time I’m at Costco, I have yet to see a rude customer. Stand by the entrance for 15 minutes and see the members generally have their membership card out and ready to show the staff. Even the long line ups to the front counter, there’s no cart collisions going on. Mind you,we aren’t all carrying a gun while shopping.

@Xempir4 ай бұрын
As an employee, it is astounding how much food gets thrown away without availability for employees to take some. I’ve worked in all food departments. Food court will toss entire pizzas that aren’t “cooked enough”, deli will toss food items that are one day past sell-by. Bakery tossed pastries that aren’t “perfect”. Rotisserie chicken room will harvest the breast and thigh meat from leftover chickens, but toss everything else. As someone who grew up food insecure, it made me genuinely sick to see how much food was being tossed every dau.

The manager in charge of Me Was so rude about me going to the bathroom a lot and then there were these training video modules that I had to keep learning about and with my ADHD good freaking luck with that those things were hard hard to understand. @cretnotonic I'm an AM stocker. 415am to 1015am, it is definitely fast paced because we have to restock the entire store before opening at 10am, and sometimes I stay late just crushing cardboard and plastic because other employees just leave all the full carts in the back. I’m that person who walks in and refuses to show my membership card. You need it to check out, so there’s no point. Usually it’s been because I’m not a member. I want to see if the store has anything I want. I’m not going to join just to not end up buying anything. More often than not there’s nothing in there I want and I leave. Also, the membership desk is on the inside. You can direct me to the desk, but then I walked away from the desk once you’re not looking.
