I was just about to comment how I am the best was my first introduction to kpop in 2012 (excluding Psy), and it wasn't that shocking, especially compared to other songs in the radio at that time. I'm not from the US, so no commercials or radio play for me, but the song was not really that out there compared to mainstream music, it could have been played in the radio. Sure, maybe the song hasn't aged that well, but I'd say same can be said for the majority of mainstream music produced in the early 2010's

Obviously with time members are going to become closer, and can become good friends. But romantic relationships with someone you work with can be really problematic, and difficult to navigate. We know really limited stuff about idols personal lives. For some idols they might not mind fans shipping them with one of their members, they might even play into it with fanservice. But some of these shippers are wild. They believe it completely. This can make public figures really uncomfortable. It's even strained or ruined relationships between people who were in bands together, or who made content online together. It also makes it awkward for idols to interact with each other at award shows and stuff because people might take the fact two people made eye contact as "proof" of them being in a relationship. I take issue with SHINee's "Ring Ding Dong" being in this video. It was literally one of THE main songs that got me into KPop and SHINee in particular back in 2009 when a friend in college played it, "Replay," "Juliette," and Super Junior's "Sorry Sorry," "Dancing Out," and "U" as well as TVXQ's "Mirotic." Ring Ding Dong got stuck in my head for DAYS after watching the mv and while I cursed her at the time, I gotta thank her for it--I wouldn't have discovered my ult groups NCT and Stray Kids without her introduction to their sunbaes back in the day.

Every KZbin reactor who watches RDD has the same pattern ... confusion ... then laughter ... then a big grin ... then happily rocking along to the music ... then obsessively repeating the refrain long after the song is over. I definitely understand why people are worried that non-Kpop fans won't take it seriously if RDD is their introduction to the genre, but I really do think most people love the song the first time they hear it. It's simple, catchy, has an outlandishly dated MV, iconic choreography ... it's the heart and soul of 2nd gen Kpop.
