The Worst Logo Redesigns.

In this video, I found some of the worst logo redesigns. Companies often try to simplify their logos to make them look modern and "unique", however, they often screw them up!

Am I missing something? How? It’s a blue box with a random font that says gap. Is there something high quality in there that I’m not seeing? It seems like one of the most boring logos I’ve ever seen. The updated logo isn’t great either but I don’t see why people care so much besides the fact that some people are just against change.

The reason Microsoft didn't want to keep the Internet Explorer logo is the same reason they changed its name to Microsoft Edge. Internet Explorer is just known for being a slow and outdated browser.

To be fair Edge and IE are different browsers, based around different code bases. Edge is actually usefull, IE is burdened used by people who learned how to use tech 18 years ago an refuse to learn anything new

@@Bfbftgs Edge is basically Chrome without some baggage. It works rather well and is a bit faster than Chrome, so there really is no reason to change to Chrome.

@@rogerb3657 I don't agree that Edge is useful (at least in comparision to the major alternatives) but yeah I think a lot of people aren't aware that they are different browsers. They even run separately on machines (there is unfortunately still some backend Explorer support, which has been noted in several CVEs/exploits.)

Nutella is also a good example of a brand with excellent recognition. They have had the same logo and "bread-with-paste-applied" image for decades.

Am i the only one who dislikes the "Retro" Burger King logo and prefers the more modern "2000s" one. It's very dynamic and borderline futuristic. While the retro one screams 1970s maisie. Similarity i dislike the KIA logo for accidentally looking like the Nine Inch Nails logo and making the A look more like a A helps a lot.

I know this is common knowledge by now, but for those who don't know, the simplification of logos started with the rise of smartphones, and reason is that flat and simple logos look better on smaller screens .. personally i find that really dumb.

A reason they change is because they have executives trying to justify their exorbitant bonuses and nonsencial pay. So they have to show they did something and a new logo is something.

Another logo that went back to their old design is for the department store chain JCPenney. JCPenney reverted back to their classic 1971 logo in 2012 after a total of three updates. Having shopped at a shopping mall anchored by JCPenney in the past, the logo is great, with its simple Helvetica font.

They already had such a strong identity with their styles that when it came down to a time when they wanted to do a redesign with the most important factor of as little spent as possible. The consultant was bascially forced into this style especially to justify their exorbitant pay as it's so radically different therefore that must be good and it's cheap to do. Therefore they can walk off with a suitcase full of cash, the shareholders wait for a short term bump in the stock.

Logo designs that hurt me the most were Surfwear brands. Hurley, QuikSilver, Billabong, and Many Others. Brands nowadays aren't even trying with making unique designs to their clothing anymore :/

Apple Inc actually started the oversimplified logos because they found out changing over complicated logos with each update is hard so using oversimplified logos is easier

The company I work for used to have a really cool logo that tied into the region's landmarks. Now it's a weird generic thing with no resemblance to anything and it just feels bland and uninteresting. And they plastered it on EVERY surface, every document, even the bottled water!

The Weight Watchers logo rebrand awhile back was quite funny. They made it one word and had a gradient go from black to white. It had the unfortunate side effect of highlighting a vulgar four letter word when both are put together. Of course it was made funnier as Weight Watchers demo is mostly women and the vulgar word is an offensive term towards women. Edit to add, I can't unsee the Hitler stache.

I agree with you, but sometimes they change it to something kinda ugly, I think, just to catch your eye - they know you're used to seeing the same old thing on the shelves, and just something different is enough to make you go 'wait a minute, that's different'. It's usually not enough to make you WANT to try it though! Oftentimes, change of packaging = change in formula. That is almost never a good thing.

The Edge logo is if anything, too similar to the old Internet Explorer logo, especially considering that the whole reason for replacing IE in the first place was its reputation was 💩 and their market share was falling off a cliff.
