It's funny that you mentioned safety, you can clearly see on the final restart and after Blaney actually won that his windownet was down. Can you imagine if he got into a wreck, something we see all the time at the end of all star races, with his windownet down? Like you said, NASCAR could've just called the race They could've let Blaney come down pit road and have his crew fix it without losing position They could've done anything other than what they did.

The thing about it re-enforcing stereotypes really is true man. I feel your pain. Being a fan of Japanese baseball, I finally got my friends to get up at 5 am and watch the Japan Series with me, Game 3 had been an extremely fun back-and-forth between the Tokyo Swallows and Osaka Buffaloes that felt like a 9 round prize fight, and all three had been very entertaining up to that point. Game 4... 1-0 Buffaloes. Thankfully some of my friends are baseball people so we could appreciate some masterful pitching but... holy fuck I felt so bad. Luckily I also got them to watch Game 5 with me and that was a fun one, walk-off third deck homer and everything. NASCAR's always had a special place in my heart, but yeah... it's not fun to see the direction the sport has headed since I was a little kid in the mid-00s, I just wish somebody saw sense and catered to what the hardcore actually want, not "muh wide appeal" that appeals to no one.

I've noticed that F1 manages to somehow do this to themselves. They call Monaco the "crown jewel" on the season and it's their most famous race. In the US it's one of two races that are on ABC instead of ESPN. If non-F1 fans are going to watch a race it'll probably be that one given all the hoopla around it. The problem is that the Monaco Grand Prix is the worst, most boring race on the F1 calendar, especially from the perspective of a casual fan. Even hardcore fans like me, who can appreciate the kind of skill it takes to race at Monaco, think the race sucks. The track is way too narrow and the cars are too big so it's almost impossible to pass. In the final laps of this years race the top 4 cars were bunched up nose to tail but the track killed any possible intruige about who would win. We knew the cars can't pass so they could have done 100 laps like that and the running order never would have changed.

@@BiggieTrismegistus I agree completely. Monaco has to stay on the calendar. But they can alter the track to adapt to the cars now being much wider and longer than before. The barriers could be set back a bit at least in a fair bit of the course. And the chicane after the tunnel could be opened up to allow passing. Same with the first corner. It used to be much less tight so cars could get along side with drs to pass. Indycar and F1 are my favorite series but I watch a lot of all kinds of racing. I've tried to get into NASCAR over the past few years but I just can't for some reason. Given the obvious decline in popularity and comments like yours it seems like the series lost something but I can't put my finger on what exactly that is. I hate the playoffs but the sport still managed to maintain its popularity for a while when that format was brought in. What happened to NASCAR seems to mirror what happens in professional wrestling from time to time. Sometimes the stars the align just right and pro wrestling experiences a huge increase in its popularity but then after awhile all those new fans drift away until only the hardcore remain. I seen that cycle twice in my lifetime so maybe NASCAR will make a similar comeback at some point in the future.
@eagflc2 жыл бұрын
@@BiggieTrismegistus I really enjoy F1 but I am new to watching it. When I started to watch NASCAR, early 2000's. When NASCAR was at its peak popularity. NASCAR would poke fun at F1, the automotive racing done by young rich playboys, and NASCAR is the "down home racers, Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Jr. As examples, but now it's turned into what they said they weren't. Not all the drivers, the new up and comers though are. Where I lost interest in NASCAR was when Jimmie Johnson retired. I know he went to Indy car and followed a little. But Jimmie kept me invested in NASCAR, but they had made so many changes, almost annually. Now change can be good. If you don't change then you're destined to fade away. It was how often a change or changes were made. Something you like or dislike, maybe gone next season. You don't get to learn to like it or dislike it. I heard in a class, that if a currency keeps changing, people lose faith in it. That's why currencies stay pretty much the same. I think the same can be said for NASCAR and wrestling. New points systems, new regulations, different engine packages at different tracks. I've said a couple of times, "Man, I like (insert rule change). I wonder how long they will keep it." That's where I lost confidence and investment in NASCAR. To those that are passionate and love the sport today, that's awesome and great. For me the sport is on life support but I hope one day it will pull through.

Another change to regular races that's stolen the All-Star Race's thunder is the win-and-you're-in playoffs format. It used to be that even if you weren't able to compete for the championship because you were having a bad year or you just weren't a strong enough team period, a win was extra special because it got you a ticket into an All-Star Race or two. Now that's completely overshadowed by the fact it gets you into the playoffs if it's in the first 26 races. Going to a special track like North Wilkesboro is something, but I really think in order to keep the All-Star Race relevant long-term they need to get a lot crazier with it.

Great Video! I distinctly remember watching this race on TV shouting at it in disbelief. I went to bed that night so pissed at NASCAR for what they did. But.. It is what it is! Im just glad the all star race has found a (hopefully) good home for the foreseeable future

It's ironic I've recently come into posession of the Maxx Cards set for the 1992 All Star Race shortly before this. This video definitely restored my repressed memory of this race. Both my Dad and I were incredibly baffled at the call to do the finish all over again. Crazy the difference of 30 years in a Sports ey?

I will never forget this race, I watched it on TV, and remember going "WTH!" when they announced the race wasn't over.

Why are you sorry we had to watch this? This video was not only more enjoyable than the race but was really informative and great. This video made my day.

This was actually my first NASCAR race, I had a blast just watching them come by at 200 and same at the playoff race later that year. But I went to Bristol about 3 weeks ago and the racing was far superior there and just felt special. Can’t wait to go to more in the future, but it does kinda suck my home track is somewhat dysfunctional and brutal to sit through in the September Texas heat

Next year the race is in April. Weather should be much better.

My GF and I went to both All-Star races at Texas....In the survey post-race you always through email, I basically begged the track to not have the all star race (even tho its only 2 hours from our home) and to fix the f'ed up turn 1 and 2 reconfigure. The whole track is not working at this point, thank goodness they are at least trying some configuration on iracing now.

Great video man! Been subbed for a long time now but you always bring high quality content and it’s appreciated. So many KZbinrs do the very basic to throw videos out so quick but you always put good stuff out. Thanks for that man.

You can tell by the drivers in a lot of interviews about the behind the scenes management of the sport, just trying their best not to let out how they really feel about the way things are going. It's like whatever NASCAR does is a "try hard" to save the sport. No matter what the fans or drivers want they just make an opposite hard turn in the other direction and then act surpised when things don't work out well. Thanks for video Slap!

Okay. Have the NASCAR All-Star Race BACK In May BEFORE The Coca-Cola 600, At Charlotte Rather than Both North Wilkesboro or Texas. And SMI. YOU NEED, TO RECONFIGURE, TEXAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY BACK, TO THE ORIGINAL 1999-2016 CONFIRMATION RATHER THAN THE ONE FROM 2017, AND THAT'S IT!!!

Nobody does the lead up to get anyone up to speed with the context than S1ap. Amazing job and I can’t wait for North Wilksboro next year!

Bad officiating has pretty much defined why 2022 is one of the worst seasons of NASCAR of all time. That, and how unsafe this Gen-7 car is.

Also worth noting Ryan Blaney seemed to dominate the first half of the year but his only win came in a meaningless race. And the championship race wasn’t as exciting because he let his teammate cruise to the victory since he was already eliminated.

North Wilksboro by May!?! They must be using the Army Corps of Engineers to get that place back up and running so quickly!

This dude is so fucking good at making these videos. I haven't watched a nascar race in like 15 years, but I have been binge watching his videos over the last week. If there were someone telling the behind the scenes stories like this before I would have never stopped watching. I'm sure a shit ton of work and research goes into these. I'm not sure whether to say thanks or congrats or what. These videos are fucking great! Nascar should be paying you. You tell these stories better than they ever could.

wow man. This was a great post and was on point when it comes to the races at TX being offical 'Race Nap' races for me, but also how old timers like your Dad and myself who went from hardcore to a near total loss of lost interest in the product now being offered. It's a real pity. Thx again for sharing.

As a Texan I wish our track wasn't absolutely shit. I can't be bothered to make the 2 hour drive for such a snooze fest. I'm 31 and have seen 1 race there. Also I agree with this video 100% what a clusterfuck
