@@zdelrod829 if you played the Master Duel limited deck event, you’d be surprised at what some decks can do but a decent bit of older themes have more intentional duplicity, plus you may see more of what bigger themes can do while recognizing how some players would fill the gaps in their decks this would just accelerate how many themes get the boot and further showcase what cards were always good - in modern ygo i play with 4000 lp with my friends because if you can snag 4000 nowadays you’re likely to win among other things, but mostly to give weaker decks a slightly higher chance to win

@@ram_apologist youd be suprised what people can come up with given enough time, even with trash like this like, give them couple months and I believe youd get a fairly competent tier 1 deck that is dominant thats just how card games work

@@nbassasin8092 The problem is we actually had a decent amount of known tiered decks even going into the last one, because of many oversights in the ban list that started really adding up over time. That's one of the big reasons why we decided to cut it here, because having so many formats with overbearingly strong cards compared to their competition became a player and viewer experience issue. We specifically needed a team to try and clean that up going into 25 and it took hundreds of additional bans to make it work as well as it did

There was like a dozen archetypes left actually. Fortune Fairies, Silent Swordsman, Silent Magician, Mystic Swordsman, Cipher, Earthbound Immortals, Arcana Force, Ally of Justice, Bounzer, Butterspy, Junk, Iron Chain, that weird one with the 2 monks and chu-ske, Dustons, Crashbug, somehow Steelswarm was STILL not good enough, Barbaros, Deep Sea (though most are banned from Umi ban), Phantom Beast, Super Defense Robots, and Pac-Man strat never topped. So honestly there were like tons of archetypes and deck styles left, the issue was just that the generic pile decks were plain better.

turns out 25 years of powercreep and ~15,000 cards means that you can ban 100+ cards every week for 25 weeks, and you've only removed the top 20%. You'd have to dig much, MUCH deeper to find a format where Ally of Justice would be playable.

Vylons don't destroy their own STs because it's from like 2010 and not a combo deck. Why does everything need to be combo? They identified the problem that equip spells were bad -1s, and they designed a whole archetype to try and fix that. Not the first or last time they tried to fix problems with entire game mechanics. Rituals, Trap cards, etc.

I was pretty conflicted on what to play for the last one, but I decided that after topping with aliens and ogdoadic reptilianne already, I had to give the snakes one more run in the spotlight. The featured game was a bit slow and didn't show off too many of the techs, but you can probably tell from the DNA surgery what kind of jank we were dealing with

The omega turbo variant was known for quite a long time, and is the only vylon variant which somewhat aged decently, due to the addition of link monsters increasing your options. i mean the loop more or less lets you do anything you want - if you ignore its inconsistency due to requiring a mandatory non-engine piece to function, and its death by a single handtrap/piece of disruption. at that point, more or less every quick-effect monster, quick-play/trap backrow removal and every handtrap (ghost belle, veiler and mourner don't stop the loop) were banned, so the only question left was to max out the consistency or getting your pieces and the power cap of the deck with what's left as extra deck monsters.

The ban shuffling your opponents deck during the cut is to protect your expensive cards from someone bending them and damaging them. You can still cut the deck but just not shuffling. I've have a ulti maxxc ruined and I have seen players try to bridge their opponents deck. They were a out to throw hands.
