I kind of relate to the last story because my mom is a hairstylist and she was kind of a ditz at home. She didn't have access to formal education until later in her life and growing up i didn't see her as really smart, until i saw her at work. People don't seem to realize you have to be smart to be a good hairstylist, and to see her doing what she loves made me realize she is a genius in her own amazing way.
@aaronmontgomery20553 ай бұрын
I reject your assertion that you have to be smart to be a good hairstylist. Your definition of smart and good may be far from the norm. Now I also reject your point because you assume her to be a good one as well. It is apparent that she had access to education as well from the story so your point on that is moot. Now if it was Brothers’s I wouldn’t care as long as he understands she is his responsibility to bring into the family and have her accepted. If we find that it is beyond nativity and she is truly stupid we will likely never fully accept her into the family and also judge him.

Yeah, people way too often equate "book-smart" with "intelligent", which is really elitist. That's LITERALLY the society norms thing of "which fork do you use" that you see in so many period stories. In the story all of the examples were essentially facts that you have to LEARN. I'd say she's very sheltered for sure and maybe not too curious, and her arguing points when she's wrong probably stems from OP constantly belittling her and her wanting to be right for a change, which is a fairly human reaction imo. All that to say, she's maybe not smart but that doesn't mean she can't learn stuff, or can't be a good parent.

Shayne pointing out about the weaponized incompitence during the ashes story is so important. Like... yeah, of course you should have secured the urn that is holding your mother-in-law's ashes in a moving vehicle!
@duckprince6.69 ай бұрын
My bit of confusion comes from the fact that I thought most crematoriums or funeral parlors will put ashes into a baggie INSIDE the urn, so I could 100% see myself accidentally doing the same if I wasn't forewarned that the ashes were, in fact, loose inside the urn itself... I'm not sure if that makes me sound incompetent or not tho lol Maybe the autism makes me assume that fact applied everywhere (100% would accept the judgement of being stupid lmao) Edit: I would never vacuum the ashes tho omg x.x Just drive home and talk to your damn wife and figure out how to scoop it all back up Edit 2: I got really curious so I googled it and my conclusion is that the wife must've put the loose ashes into a different urn/vase out of the temporary one the crematorium puts them in (baggie included)

My brother had a gf like the clueless fiancé “Gigi”. When the hosts agreed she’s the type who could fix the whole car when it broke down, I doubt it. We came to change Gigi’s tire, and couldn’t figure out why the hood was popped. She wasn’t even sure, saying, “it seems like that’s what you do to fix a car- or it’s a signal so someone will come fix it.” (Yes she had excessive pretty privilege ) We explained it wasn’t necessary to pop the hood, a flat tire isn’t an engine problem. A month later, ran out of gas. I brought her some, finding her again , hood open. Couldn’t understand that needing gas ALSO wasn’t an engine problem. “ Doesn’t it need gas to work?” Genuinely didn’t get it. Also, at the zoo, wanted to see the flying monkeys. WHAT?Because of wizard of of Oz.” How do you Know they aren’t real?” She exclaimed, and I’ll never forget the strangers who looked at her with stunned confusion. It still makes me laugh.

The other person was covered with ashes. She didn’t know what was all over her clothes, and started brushing the ash off onto the ground. He yelled “Stop, STOP!! Don’t brush it off!! The woman at 38:59 needs to research the "cycle of abuse." It is very common for abusers to apologize and shower their victim with love and affection after an incident occurs. They will swear up and down that it will never happen again, only for it to, of course, inevitably happen again because while the incident has been resolved, the actual cause of the incident has not (that being his desire to be with a younger woman). Telling her his dream girl is 8 years younger than him (15) when he is currently 23 was him accidentally admitting that he wants a significantly younger woman. A 23 year old man dating a 22 year old woman has no reason to be fantasizing about dating somebody else (regardless of age, but that makes it way worse) when he is 33. Him calling you ugly at 17 and saying it was because you were young was probably his "lady doth protest too much" moment; He overacted to try to hide the fact that he actually likes younger girls, and if nothing else, he probably wishes you were STILL 17. He is clearly a severe misogynist that only views women as trophies and baby-makers. Please, for the love of god, break up with him immediately and do not give him another chance. Do not even bother entertaining him with an explanation. Say "I'm done, do not ever talk to me again," and leave it at that. If he bothers you after that, call the police.

For the last story, I made a friend in high school who sometimes said or did completely out of pocket stuff, or said things that sounded dumb (buying skincare off of Amazon for a rash she did not go to the doctor for and then being surprised when it made it worse, walking for 2 hours in the rain after school because she missed the bus instead of just walking back to school to wait for her mom or siblings to pick her up in the middle of winter. Just like small stuff that would be common sense to most people but that, to her, was foreign because of the way her mom raised her. As the months went I got more and more frustrated and it started to show on my face, whenever she said smth like that or was just clueless I'd frown or be visibly shocked. I was upset at her mom for not giving her those basic life skills and not giving her the means to grow up properly, and I was also proud of her for still figuring out school and gov paperwork that she did on her own cause her mom struggles with French. However to her, it seemed like I was mocking her and thought she was stupid, and she took offense. I found out after she stormed off while we were talking, and our friend told me that's how she felt. I just went to talk to her and explained why I reacted like that and then told her again how amazing she is considering everything that has happened to her, and she asked me to tone down my reactions and instead just tell her when she was wrong, which I obviously did. TLDR : someone can be clueless about some stuff and still be incredibly smart in other stuff, general common sense is a thing but for all you know, they could be filling out gov paperwork for years since they were like 7 :)

10:09 For anyone wondering, that's called a blowout and they're really common in hand tattoos! Hand tattoos are some of the hardest to do because the skin on our hands regenerates faster than pretty much anywhere else except our mouths. So the tattoos have to be deeper than usual for the ink to stay, which then increases the risk of blowouts. Blowouts aren't always indicative of a poor quality tattoo, or a bad tattoo artist. It happens to every tattooist at some point in their career.

The egg story is pure emotional abuse. Insinuating you can get dumped at any time for no reason, calling her ugly, intentionally confuse her,... It takes mental gymnastics to figure out where he's coming from and going with that egg count/age/p3do maths riddle. I'm 99, 9% sure he doesn't believe his own BS about all that. It's designed to keep your head spinning, so you'll get emotionally, mentally and physically exhausted, so you feel like shit and won't argue or defend yourself. Having her begging is what he was after and what he was getting. When she finally confronted him, he suddenly was sweet and comforting her. Also a classic sign of abuse, hurt hurt hurt... and when partner gets serious and might possibly leave, sprinkle on some sugar... and repeat. Those are all major red flags. He's the A and a massive POS on the side.

I agree, but it should be mentioned, because it seems like everyone forgot, he said that she was ugly and unattractive at 17, not currently. His lack of knowledge regarding women and reproduction is excusable (American sex ed. be like that), but his certainty in ignorance is not. Just the comment regarding getting a kid with another woman and taking the kid(s) from that woman for him and OP to raise, I believe, proves that he is not actually abusive, he's actually just an idiot.
@EllaGreenn10 ай бұрын
@@muttleythedog8935 It doesn't matter he told her when she was 17. A 6yo bully knows perfectly well that calling someone ugly is hurtful. It's never necessary to say that even when its true. Same goes for lack of sex ed or experience with women. The biggest idiot on the planet will comprehend that telling your partner you're thinking of leaving them at some point or impregnating another woman for any reason is extremely hurtful and distressing. Even if he believes it and is calculating in his mind what future parental scenario would be in his best interest (but detrimental to his 'loved' partner)... there is no reason (except abuse and power games) for him to rub her nose in his selfish plans. He likes her hurt, stressed out and on her knees. There's no other explanation. Being an idiot does not prevent anyone from being an abuser, it probably even makes it more likely. I appreciate you try to see the best in people and give them the benefit of the doubt. But after repeated abusive behavior, trying to rationalize the evidence away only prolongs the suffering of the victim. Rationalization is one of the shackles that binds victims, prevents them from leaving and often makes them go back. Helping a victim rationalize the abuse is tantamount to helping/enabling the abuser.

I know many women in my life that had babies at 40~41. He just wants to make her feel insecure & to feel that he's compromising by being with her. She is 22, she shouldn't be concerned about that at all, plus he's the one that wants to wait till he's 30, which has no logic behind it. You have children when you are ready emotionally, mentally and financially, that doesn't magically happen by 30, everyone's life & goals are different.

@@jurgnobs1308it’s the parents fault, yes, but raising your voice at the child immediately makes it your fault. Unless the yelling was literally to avoid some imminent physical danger, it is never okay.

22 y/o pregnancy story: From someone who got married at 19 and was gaslite regularly by their partner, it seems so clear to me what she's going through. I'm so glad she reached out to objective people to get validation that she wasn't crazy for feeling the way she did. It can seem so obvious hearing about these things from the outside but when you've been constantly trained to question your own reality it's beyond understandable that she would feel so unsure. The most telling moment was when she said "I have the worst memory" . That was heart breaking to hear. I would bet an obscene amount of money (that I don't have lol) that she's been conditioned to think that. Constantly being told that the way she remembers situation is flat out wrong in order for her partner to further control her. Hearing how much she grew in in such a short amount of time is nothing less than awe inspiring. Endeavoring to seek out someone who makes her feel loved and affirming that she DESERVES that. Thats something that took me years to realize and is still often a struggle to prioritize (as a now 33 y/o aka only 6 eggs left😢) She came to that in only 3 days?!? I truly wish the best for her. Sending good vibes, love and light! ........... Also in case, by some miracle she sees this.. By the time you're 30 you'll still have around 80,000 eggs. You have all the time in the world to have kids, if that's even what you want! Take your time. You got this!❤
@thespankmyfrank10 ай бұрын
I reacted the same way to the "I have the worst memory" comment... seems like she's been 1) gaslit into thinking that and 2) is just so exhausted/mentally drained that she actually can't remember anything. Living in an abusive situation will do that to you. I feel for her, but I'm glad she got out of there and has family that cares for her.
