Honestly, for as much as Raid Shadow Legends gets memed on, it's probably one of the better sponsorships out there. Like worst thing that happens to most people is they just play a bad game. Yeah, such games are built on the backs of whales and they really want you to be the whale that gets hooked, but I'd rather be sponsored by War Thunder or AFK Arena than Fum or Sofi. I think in general, if any YT sponsorship advertises itself as "X made easy" or "X reinvented", you're probably in for some shit

That's the way I've always thought about it. The worst thing that happens is that you play a bad game and like it enough to spend money on microtransactions. That's not great, but at least you're not getting scammed or buying something worthless. Like a VPN for most people is pointless, gamers who already just sit at their desk for 18 hours don't need energy drink supplements, nobody needs meals shipped to their house uncooked, etc.
@plebisMaximusСағат бұрын
I saw a guy being sponsored by some author to shill his book too. That's fine, worst case scenario you just aren't entertained. You run the same risk going into a book store and just picking something from a shelf. The issue is, legitimate businesses aren't going to do "influencer marketing" often, so you don't see games or books or whatever sponsoring anyone often. The more prevalent a company is on this site, the less likely it is their product is worth using. Coca Cola doesn't need pu$$y_$layer to tell people to buy their drink before he goes off to rant about wanting weed to be legal, they can just run a real ad campaign.

Ground news also sponsors more neutral people like Alex O'Connor. Might be that most people who actively talk about politics/news have strong opinions?
@YehudiNimolКүн бұрын
Sorry, but your 'theory' on Ground News is complete dogshit. They're geared towards right/left leaning audiences because many of the people in these audiences actually *want* to correct their biases, so they're the perfect target audience for the product. The KZbinrs take these sponsorships cuz money. They advertise in the US (and also Canada) cuz money. It's really that simple. I never used Ground News and have no reason to, as I live at the other side of the world, but I think that if you criticize them you should at least target their main selling point (about correcting biases) instead of coming forward with a bunch of speculative BS
@8xottox8Күн бұрын

tbh i hate when people go “the youtubers knew all along!” or villainize them as much as they do in thumbnails, considering a lot of youtubers probably just see the sponsor email and go “hmm, i get cash for that? seems legit and i get paid.” it’s sorta what made me so ehh about these sponsors cause like also at the end of the day, if nothing shady is going on, it’s just a bad product.
@concerningindividualКүн бұрын
Yeah, blaming KZbinrs for taking sponsor money even if the sponsor sucks is just inconsiderate when whether or not youtubers get paid off ad revenue is already a roll of the dice for some creators. It takes a lot of dignity to not take sponsors when KZbin takes so much advantage off of creators thanks to dominating the long-form content industry, knowing they don't have another option.
@WolpherКүн бұрын
You are just a fanboy. AINT NO WAY The KZbin is absolved of guilt. @Kt-hp7cvКүн бұрын
I disagree. You are still essentially giving a bad product/shady practice a platform on your channel. Even if the sponsor seems off, a portion of the audience will be influenced to pay. While the consumer has the responsibility to vet a product before they make a purchase, that does not excuse the KZbinr to ignore doing adequate research on the sponsor they are platforming.

Not doing research and doing the sponsor to your audience isn’t just an impersonal ad, it’s a lack of respect to your followers to just tell them lies and promote useless bullshit just to get a quick buck when some of them are already fucking rich. By saying they shouldn’t be « villainized » you defend them, they don’t need to know it’s a scam to be villainized, the fact that they didn’t is why they should.

It's kinda weird to focus on saturated fat, when the trans fat is right there. Saturated fat is actually good for you as long as you don't exceed a certain amount, while any amount of trans fat is unhealthy. Oh wait I misinterpreted what you were saying, what you're actually saying is the one with trans fat is better because it has less saturated fats. Just an FYI, you're better off eating a lot more saturated fat than any amount of trans fat. Also the trans fat one has a lot more sugar in it, which is also quite bad for you. Not to mention about 2 and a half times the sodium. Excluding trans fats, fat is a very good and HEALTHY source of energy for your body, you have sadly fallen for big sugar propaganda. Try reading some health studies made in the last couple of decades please.

I don't watch this guy's channel and I also don't plan to but at least I know he ain't a gym bro at the very least. But yeah you basically perfectly described that fat isn't inherently unhealthy and it's a basic nutrient that your body needs and only trans fat is the unhealthy one. And for anyone wondering what trans fat is it's basically just the fat you find in most fast food and fried food. It's made to preserve the food longer which is mostly the reason why it's unhealthy. And if you're wondering how it's formed it's basically hydrogen infused vegetable oil.

Wait, the FÜM sticks only last 3 days? At that point it’s actually cheaper to just keep vaping. A cheap vape will cost you like 10 dollars and last you a week. This is not getting anyone off of these habits and like you mentioned, is simply just creating new habits except now your habit is even more expensive. If you’re trying to quit then just switch to Zyns or any other type of nicotine packets. A pack of 10 costs 5 bucks and it gives you the same reward and can even give you the buzz you get from inhaling nicotine. It’s also safer, just change the spot you put it in or your mouth will get very irritated and start to hurt. Also you can chose the concentration of packets you want to use so you can ween down and eventually quit depending on the brand.

I think I would be more forgiving to KZbin sponsorships if they weren't all carbon copies of one another. I could open up a newspaper right now and there'd be more variance in the ads in there than what you see across sponsored YT segments, much less the stuff you'd see on TV or before the video itself. In the older days of sponsored KZbin, I feel like people were allowed to be more creative. In the past 3-5 years I wanna say, I can think of maybe 10 YT sponsorships that were advertised interestingly enough to catch my attention, which is pitifully low for a platform that's about expressing the real "you". And on a related note, if your entire brand as a creator, your "you", is flexing how much better a person you are than whatever group, please stop taking these sponsorships. If your channel's in it for the fun times, do whatever unless it's a super stinker, but otherwise I'd go as far as not taking any sponsorships unless you can talk it through with someone not terminally online. I don't need another holier-than-thou creator instructing me on how to feel about a certain issue to unceremoniously plug Factor or Displate halfway through the video. Imagine if part-way through a Mr. Rogers episode, Fred awkwardly transitioned into a Ground News ad read. Sounds jarring, right? In concept, not too far off from what we see on YT
@RamonathoСағат бұрын
To your last point, that did used to happen on TV in the early days. News and entertainment segments would switch over to the host smoking a cigarette, and mentioning how nice that cigarette is. Weird times. Edit: now I wanna see Mr. Rodgers puffing a dart

I got to give props to this dude, Under 2k subscribers, Honestly not many small creators would make an video exposing sponsors. I've been thinking a lot lately about how there's no youtubers (to my knowledge) who are taking sponsorships from people they personally know, like friends or other youtubers who have gotten into real business. I'd love to see someone advertise something they know about personally. Only similar thing I can think of is F9 making in house branded key wraps and neck gaiters they have their friends make.

Honestly, I did have suspicions with Ground News, seeing that it's sponsored everywhere on channels covering geopolitics

In the videos exposing Honey and PIE, I see Ground News being sponsored. I was thinking "hmmm... how long will Ground News be exposed for being somewhat a shady company or something?"
@TerigenaКүн бұрын
It is a news aggregator so it basically pirates of actual news organisations. Every time someone reads an article on a news aggregator the people who did the actual journalism miss out on revenue. It isn't for nothing that newspapers have been fighting Google news. Ground News dares to ask subscription fees for undermining the journalistic landscape.
@CaptainFuturaКүн бұрын
@@BiBirenI know, right? I see them sponsoring everywhere. They must be spending millions on influencers. But hard as I try, I just don't see the point. You already know the bias of the media you consume. It's not like some big revelation.
@8xottox8Күн бұрын
@@CaptainFutura That's exactly it. I don't need to see what like, Alex Jones at Infowars or Tucker Carlson said about something. If I hit my head one morning and decided to need that, I could just go and see on their own websites and channels. I can just open up FOX, CNN, etc. if I want to see mainstream news.

If a youtuber has one or two sponsers that end up being scammy but it would have been hard or impossible to know so (aka honey) then you really can't hold that against them. However, if a youtuber has allowed EVERY scam to sponser them then I unsubscribe. AKA Graham.

With Ground News I also can't help but wonder what is their metric? What is the formula, and what data pools are they using, for the weighted left-center-right scale? Who by, how and why is each source ranked as left/right and accurate/false? I need more transparency if I am to believe anyone making a claim to be non partisan. Cause to be blunt, I have grown suspicious of both sides of the fence after realizing the fence sits on shared property and serves the same homeowners association (so to speak). Many on the left repeat slogans with no grasp of the ideals or peoples said slogans rep...and well the right is just maskoff with the superiority complex, that is all too often just as common but more subtle on the left. Basically the entire compass is busted, so I have just opted to return to old school sailor style navigation in my political life.... (Ie trust your gut and read the surroundings)
@membranealpha5961Күн бұрын
the fact thats its even a left vs right political landscape is in and of itself a massive problem, when there's no third or fourth group everything becomes us vs them to a level where its almost impossible to have any meaningful conversation. honestly im of the opinion that we should do away with political parties entirely, even if that's not realistically possible.
@ChickadeeBoiКүн бұрын
@@membranealpha5961 I actually couldn't agree more. I myself can't help but think, aren't the left and right wing the same bird? And don't all birds inevitably wind up shitting on many heads?...Perhaps we should vote for competent leaders, not just alternating wings of a undeniably incompetent bird?
@towel_gamingКүн бұрын
@@ChickadeeBoi personally I think we should all vote for the liver or the heart because they keep the bird alive
@ChucksSEADnDEADКүн бұрын
@membranealpha5961 any third or fourth group would still be part of the left/right dichotomy.
@ChucksSEADnDEADКүн бұрын
@ChickadeeBoi This is just a misunderstanding of what the right/left dichotomy is supposed to be. Basically, to oversimplify it, the left/right dichotomy was first categorized in the French Revolution where the seating arrangement in the National Assembly was split between supporters of the previous regime on the right with the progressive on the left. You will always vote for alternating wings because no matter who you vote for they are either a candidate for progress or someone promising to revert back to better days.

I agree with the vast majority of your points, but i do think that you are vastly overestimating how many people actually buy these products. In the final section you take a supposed "conservative estimate" of 10% of people who watch an EmpLemon video sponsored by Keeps buys their product. There is absolutely no way that 1 in every 10 people who see a product will end up buying it. I'd be extremely surprised if even 1% bought it.

Not rlly related ig but one of the most annoying things about KZbin sponsors for me is when they're at the beginning/middle of a video. Like, I'm not stupid enough to buy something advertised by a KZbinr, just put the shitty ad at the end of the video 😭

Just when you think things can't get any more baffling, you see youtubers promoting Fake Fragrances, a company that quite literally sells replicas and counterfeits because certain formulas can be approximated. And the cherry on top is that they get some watch youtubers to promote it. Y'know, watches, one of if not the most counterfeited product segment on the market. You just can't make that shit up.
