Hi. I am a single woman I am 62 years old and I have been rving for 20 years now. What I wish I had was a handyman to travel with. The one thing I don't have any Savvy about is building things fixing things reconstructing things and all of what goes on and is needed in RV traveling. You just get right down and get to it. I admire that so much. I've been lucky in a sense. I had one motorhome that was always trouble and I got in a big collision and it got totaled. So I got a new one from the money I received from the insurance company and this one's been a gem. So I've been blessed with not having too many things break down. I'm a little bit wary of getting in back roads and staying on the back roads where you're not near anybody. Because if something did happen that would really be a problem for me. Thank you for making the video I like your content a lot. Have a great day and happy trails.

Next time maybe try a gas 2500 or F250. No maintenance but oil lube and filters. Buy Jiff to prevent seperation. :) Nice video.....I have my first RV on order...cant wait.

Jared, Thank you for 'opening the door' and showing folks what is out there for them to EXPERIENCE once they dive in. Truly beautiful sights along the way in this episode. Thanks again! And I definitely agree, the breakdowns are the worst, at least until the creative half of the brain kicks in and takes over the troubleshooting and fix finding. Who loves the unexpected STOP. You're knocking it out of the park!

This is a very good video. We've had almost every RV you can think of from pop ups to a 40' Diesel. Never had a 5th wheel or class "B" (yet). But we gave up the Motorhome last year because we just did not have the time to use it enough to justify it. But to be honest, mechanical issues, driving a big rig, set up and take down was starting to get old. Been trying to convince the wife to try out a van camper. Big enough to sleep in comfortably or if you have a run of bad weather. But small enough to keep in the driveway. It would be great for day trips, or even long hauls alternating between campgrounds and hotels.

Ford diesels starting problems sometimes are overcome by allowing a few seconds before trying to starts. Listening, I can hear the my diesel pump and it takes 35 seconds before pump stops. By allowing this time, starting functions starts quickly.

Jared, Your best video yet. You were honest, but in an uplifting, positive way. As a 10 year full-timer, I agree that the positives far, far out weigh anything on your list. BTW - I’d add backing in to a camp site to that list. On several occasions I’ve felt like “I’m done with this” after having to shoehorn my trailer into a phone booth size spot 😁
@richmilligan58812 жыл бұрын
Agreed- the backing in/learning to back up is near the top of my list.

I have a Princess Truck. It is a 2012 Dodge. He exists to pull our trailer around during the short Canadian summer. He lives in storage during the winter and gets everything he needs, when he needs it, but there is always a chance there will be a breakdown; In the middle of nowhere, in the middle of the night, in the middle of a thunderstorm, breakdowns are attracted like ants at a picnic. It always surprises me that at times like that I can usually get us going again despite not having a clue what I am doing. Desperation is a huge motivator.

Nicely done & said. Our frig is 8 cu ft and keeps the 2 of us well supplied for week or two with no issues. Not a lot gets thrown out from lack of use, as our home unit does. My biggest issue is broke down along side the road wether in traffic or miles from the nearest paved road. Followed by finding a spot to spend the night. This one is moving towards #1. In my 40+ years of RV-n we never had to worry about reservations until about 5-6 years ago. Lots more people out there and camp spots have not kept up. Over the years I have tried to keep my wits about me and take RV repairs in stride & not get upset over them. It's all part of the program.

“I am actually not a big complainer. Its almost kind of hard or me to do this list, because I see the other side of this. All these things are so petty and really not that big of deal when you get to look at all the places you get to go, and do, and see, and spend time with your family. None of these things matter. They don’t matter at all. This is the pay off. Getting to be there for the sunrise and the sunset and the beautiful times in between” JARED, YOU COULD NOT HAVE SAID IT BETTER BUDDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everyone's needs are different full timing, I went with an old (2000 Monaco Dynasty) for weight capacity. I think you should be handy fixing/troubleshooting to live full time with all of the different systems in an RV...But I love it! The good outweigh "the bad" by far. I'm in the Tetons area now and it is very busy with RVs...Getting time to head up by Yellowstone and I think it will be very busy there also....Nice video as always.

I've been binge-watching your videos tonight. They are awesome. We just recently bought a 23' camper (used)... and it is awesome... However, at this point, it also seems SO overwhelming!! We took it on a 2 week trip - and we really enjoyed the trip. Your comment on missing the internet was spot on! Upon returning to our house, all I've done is use the internet! Anyway, after spending a lot of money on the camper itself - it feels like we have to keep buying more and more expensive items for the camper. (I mean, you can buy cheap... but I like investing in the right item the first time if I can.) In the short time we've had it I feel like I've almost had to research EVERYTHING about it and read EVERY manual that came with the thing. 1 - The fridge is really finicky (cleaning the burner helped a little). 2 - Batteries - considering a battery monitor now - but during the trip we upgraded from a single 100AH deep cell to 2 90 AH AGM's, when we drew down the battery way too low boon docking. It seems perhaps our water pump uses too much power (or we need to start using our "blue cube" water jug instead on boon dock trips??) We have a generator (more $$$ spent), but in addition to bothering other people, I hate needing to run the generator every day. So, here I am learning more about battery monitors and solar (more money - yikes!). 3- It seems the vent valve under the bathroom sink may also be bad because it really smells in the bathroom and we think it is coming from the sink area (RV Geeks helped us on that one). 4 - I think we need to re-seal most of the camper. I feel like the "To do" list is growing faster than I can check the items off the list. Ok - sorry for the super long comment. Just venting a bit, I guess. I'm just hoping that I get over the "new camper" hump and that it soon starts to feel more manageable and not so overwhelming.

"Decision fatigue" - or to paraphrase, "information overload." I know the situation, which is why I dread letting my wife look a t a menu when we dine out . . . she cannot decide. And then, so much time is spent trying to save nickels and dimes by "comparison shopping!" Where possible, I try to reduce decisions down to will or won't, yes or no, can or cannot. OK, you missed a couple: 11) Storms & Bad Ground: Not all campsites are good. I'm in Texas, land of thick sticky mud... it's 1am and all night it has rained with CLOSE lighthing and outrageous thunder and the wind is blowing so hard the 5th wheel never stops moving... when I step out of the trailer soon, I already know it will be a nightmare of tenaciously sticky muddy boots in the freezing cold and wet (this is the winter of 2021, still bad in TX)... and then after I accomplish my task in the dark, I will have to come back inside... impossible to manage all of that and keep the rig clean. No mud room on an RV. 12) ... well, I'll think of more... but this is tonight. Soon there will be another sunny bright moring in a gloriously beautiful place, and tonight will just be a good story.

It's a good idea to have multiple options. For example, get AT&T *and* Verizon based services. If one does not work the other might. Redundancy is expensive but weigh your cost of not having a connection versus your monthly bills.

I mean the fridge they provide is small (Beverage Version) and you are only steps away from your main Fridge? Also we will be a retired travelling couple perhaps if you had kids this secondary access to snacks and drinks may be more practical.

Hi Jared, loved this video. Thank you for covering one concern I have about my future rv life. It’s about emptying black tanks. It’s nice to know that 99% of the time it’s no problem but my concern is where to find places to do it? I don’t yet know when and where you would do it. Are these places easy to find when in BLM land, state parks, etc? Currently living in a sticks and bricks, I never have or had to think about this so I’m trying to understand if this takes up a lot of time searching for these places? Are they always conveniently located? I really need to get out there and find this out for myself!
@MonicaIsraels4 жыл бұрын
hi Thomas, that seems to be everyone's first worry until they realize it isn't as challenging as it seems. You can dump at RV parks, KOAs, state parks, some gas stations, and other places. Even if you aren't staying at an RV park, they will usually let you use their dump station for $10 or so. You can also stay at many parks with "full hookups" that include a way to dump your tanks right there at your site whenever you want. I found a storage lot with a dump station, and that has been very handy. They aren't hard to find at all. Hope that helps!
