fun fact, gliders in the wild like to perch and nest in cranes. the higher the better for spotting their pray, the wandering Alex. also that helicopter search light from Alex,s POV must have been terrifying.

At least the ending on this end made it a little bit clearer as to what happened.

I'm going with the "lag-hit by a B52 coming in at supersonic speed" idea. It certainly didn't look like a 500m separation, maybe 5 metres at best. And it just needs some bit of path-smoothing by the netcode compensating for bad ping or a lost packet to route the two vehicles paths across each other. That it took a second or two for Alex's car to be flung into the water after stopping dead may track with that. Like the sim was confused for a second and acted like he caught a glancing blow off a steeply angled (and immovable) wing, then the speed and momentum parts also caught up and corrected themselves. Even getting a fractional boost off something moving at that speed, like 5% the force of a head-on collision, would be enough to frisbee you off into the water.

It just gives me vibes of whatever it was Fio was supposed to be flying at the end of Porco Rosso ... and by extension therefore Nausicaa's Mehve, if a much mutated version

I just noticed that apparently the glider has "Lamdinggear" and I don't know what that is but it sounds fancy.

The mod you were talking to Stefan about would be a point of interest (PoI) marker which is used in most FPS games.

Question is how you'd get it to accurately drop on a distant location whilst moving around in Beam. Maybe something like a laser pointer would be better, or the Prii markers in FiveM turned sideways. That could be pretty low-tax to implement as really you just need one long flat polygon with no collision, like the spikes from a mangled vehicle with a bad crash model. Maybe two of them crossed at 90 degrees and visible from both sides so it doesn't matter which angle you see it at (or a 2.5D sprite, if the engine allows it). Make it maybe 4km long and fading out / getting more diffuse with distance, starting out only 10 centimetres wide or so.

Ah, the old classic "I do videos on the internet." The career which many still don't see as even a job. But hey, it's one of the most fun careers available in this modern age. Especially with a great group of friends along for the ride.

The flying pigeon and the mountain goat look quite fun to fly, moreso than when I last tried planes in earlier versions of Beam. Kind of early-version MS Flight Sim vibes, like the Cessna in that ... and flying under the Golden Gate bridge then smacking into something else that should be easily avoidable was a routine rite of passage in that or other old flying games with similar structures. Will have to give them a second chance. The glider maybe not so much, it looks interesting but rather hard to control if you're not out in wide open air (which is where they're meant to be used I suppose). Bit like the starter Learjet in MSFS in fact. Could be cool to mess with if someone mods geographic thermals into Beam though...
@jacksonstarky8288Ай бұрын
If not for that pre-collision impact, the collision at 9:00 might have been thoroughly and immediately terminal. Silly structural collisions.

surely if the glider has a jet, its not a glider, its just a jet
@flyer3849Ай бұрын
There are jet powered motorgliders
@tahreyАй бұрын
The jet is quite low powered and there's not much fuel on board, the real life version has the engine just to get into the air and to give it an extra boost to reach safety if the thermals run out.

The real life searchlights on police or rescue helicopters are ludicrously bright, I think the brand name is literally "Nightsun" or the like. Might actually be able to swivel independently of the heli itself though, but that likely needs a copilot to operate (plus an IR camera for initial guidance). The rotor sound is disturbingly realistic too, sounds pretty much identical to the ones that sometimes float around this area at 2am searching for scallies that the extremely sparse highway police can't catch. I'm also wondering if "portable son" could be a euphemism for a trans guy who works in IT. Running the same software on different hardware :)

That's what creates the bants. The outtakes often have the most entertaining VC in them, or daft occurrences that would have been off Alex's radar anyway.
