Yea I think 2004? they changed how being a “pro bowl” worked, then 2011 they changed it again. If you get voted in you’re a PB, if you don’t but go to the game you get the alternate tag and it kind of doesn’t count but it’s a known thing. After 2011 if you do anything involved with the PB you count as pro-bowler.

Imo Tyler Huntley shouldn't even be considered a pro bowler. He was like the 7th or so pick for the Pro Bowl because of injuries/opt outs. The first alternate should still count, but when they're literally running out of choices and go to you as like their 4th alternate, you're not a Pro Bowler, you're just a body to fill a uniform because someone has to do it.

On Mike Boryla, the only reason he was selected was because the other NFC Quarterbacks were injured (Fran Tarkenton and Roger Staubach) or declined the invitation to play (Archie Manning and Steve Bartkowski). The only NFC Quarterbacks in that game were him and Jim Hart.

I looked it up and apparently Mike Boryla was a last resort, replacing an injured Roger Staubach, who himself was replacing an injured Fran Tarkenton. Ironically, Boryla actually played pretty well in the game itself, similar to Jamaal Magloire leading the 2004 NBA All-Star Game in scoring in spite of being widely considered the worst NBA All-Star of all time.

I'm not gonna say I agree but he definitely was overrated. People forget how bad his stats were in college for a first overall pick and Heisman contender. He never threw for over 2000 yards in college and like only eclipsed 500 rushing yards once at Virginia Tech. And in the NFL, his stats were good for the time, but it's because he was a trailblazer for mobile QBs and he definitely wouldn't be considered as good if he played nowadays

As a Bears fan it’s depressing that a few of these seasons are better than the only non-alternate Pro Bowl selection in franchise history, Jim McMahon in 1985. He was 10th in the NFC in passing yards at 2392 with a whopping 15/11 TD/INT and 82.6 rating. Oh and he only played 11 of the 16 games so the whole 15-1 and greatest team of all time argument doesn’t hold when we all know he was carried by the defense and didn’t even play 31% of the games. Thankfully the 2 QBs selected ahead of him were rightfully the best 2 QBs in the conference in Montana and Simms. But I guess he was #1 in spittin verses as the punky QB 😂

Exactly. Jacoby Brissett wasn't that bad that year and actually played in almost every game. Tannehill was okay. Even Mac Jones and Russell Wilson played better than Huntley. The only AFC starting QB from that year who might have been worse than Huntley was Kenny Pickett.
