Per the Mercedes Sprinter Van handbook, the oil change should be completed every 15,000 miles. If the problem was created becuase I didn’t change the oil soon enough, then it would not have been covered under warranty.
@zarbon700Ай бұрын
Changing oil every 5,000 at the dealership won't void your warranty. If you continue to change the oil every 13,000 miles, the engine and turbo will get damaged again shortly after the warranty expires. Change the oil every 5,000 to 6,000 miles.

10,000+ miles for an oil change is crazy. Probably why the piston and turbo had problems so early. Changing it more around 5,000 miles, especially for turbo and higher stressed engines, will save your time, money and keep you from stressin. Costs a little more but its worth it for the long game. CCC
@zarbon700Ай бұрын
Turbo engines should get oil changes every 3,000 miles.
@slickjonz9404Ай бұрын
These vans have an oil capacity of like 10-11 quarts. They are not your avg. van and changing every 3-5k would not do anything but cost you more $ in overhead.
@zarbon700Ай бұрын
@slickjonz9404 Oil capacity has nothing to do with oil quality. Oil quickly degrades in its ability to lubricant and cool a turbocharged engine around 4,000 miles, especially on a cargo van hauling heavy payloads and doing lots of city driving. At 10,000+ miles, oil is no longer protecting the engine and turbos. It's now causing the acceleration of internal damage of mechanical parts within the engine and turbos. Overtime, this will lead to catastrophic failures. 5,000 mile oil changes are cheaper than interior engine repairs and turbo replacements.
@slickjonz9404Ай бұрын
@@zarbon700 oil capacity has a whole lot to do with oil quality in this instance. If you’re using a fully synthetic oil that has severely degraded @ 4k miles than you’re better off researching brands than trying to debate on the internet. I said 3-5k for a reason. 5k would be the earliest I would change. But what do I know. I’ve only owned 2 different vans bought new that were in A1 shape at sale over 200k, and have taken multiple high performance cars near the same threshold over the last 20 years. Never replacing anything engine-related than filters and plugs, oil and trans fluid, and timing belts and maybe one thermostat.
@zarbon700Ай бұрын
@@slickjonz9404 With turbocharged engines, you need to change the oil between 3,000 and 5,000 no matter what the oil capacity is. Turbos and small engine under heavy load need very clean oil to cool off and function properly. Waiting 7,000 to 10,000+ miles is high risk. No oil will remain high quality at 4000 inside the heavy load environment of turbocharged engines.

What I dont understand is how a brand like Mercedes cannot find what the problem is without dismounting the engine. Almost everything can be diagnosed using the OBDII port.. P030X where X is the cylinder misfiring for example. They tried to blame you for using the wrong gas or even doing earlier maintenance? thanks for sharing.
@JuniorTheTruthАй бұрын
In this industry, I always buy my vans brand new for the value of the warranty. You have to keep your vehicles at the dealership for the repairs and maintenance. The extra costs pay dividends in the long run. You keep the warranty intact, plus your have the documentation of the service for the vehicle, which helps maximize the re-sell value of the van. Lastly, when the van is down, the dealer will provide a loaner for you which will allow you to continue working. If you can, buy new vans as an Independent Courier.

I actually think you were smart with the dealership as you read how to stay within warranty prior to having the piston go out on you. The dealerships are sneaky and they wanted you to pay for the labor, but since you two did your homework, you paid zero. As for your business, I wish you much success. I deliver and many people that deliver are foolish. They complain and don't want to learn. This comes from personal experience. I know a lot about delivering, but you are at a high level and I always learn from you. Although Roadie XD is not in my area, I will keep an eye out for it. Anyways, I wish you and your partner much success and I hope your KZbin channel grows.

As a automotive technicain for over 10+ years using premium higher octane fuel on a turbo charged engine is recommend as it reduces pre-ignition aka detnoation which is also called knock.... Another thing there is no DTC for bad spark plugs. Dealerships or auto shops selling spark plugs is a gimmick to take you money. Spark plugs 98% of the time fix absolutely nothing. If you have a hesitation and the CEL Light is flashing that`s a misfire, It could be a ignition coil, could be a stuck open/closed fuel injector, rarely could a Spark plug lol It can be a whole lot of things actually. DUDE Also as a heads UP the owners manual is the bare minimum for the amount of service you vehicle requires..... NEVER believe in 10-15k oil changes THEY say that so they do not have to provide 10 million or so oil changes per year under their service warranty plans for free.... Whatever that owners manual says requarding oil change intervals divide it by 3! Change the oil every 5000 miles. As for your fluids such as coolant, brake fluid, powersteering fluid good recommendation is to change that every 2 years. Oh and never believe or give up fighting the service advisors Audi Tech

Your outcome was the same as mine when my 2020 sprinter van diesel had engine issue. My motor was replaced versus repaired. I do my maintenance when the sprinter van alerts me on my dash and not a minute sooner. These service plans run me between $600-$1400 a pop. Regarding the request for help and negative comments. When you ask subscribers to put comments or let me know what you think is the same as asking for help imo. Keyboard warriors are everywhere and you shouldn't let that bother you because it's a waste of energy. As far as who's name is on a pink slip or whatever, man who cares. Even if it is, in my mind, that tells me she's a ride and die lady and who doesn't respect that type of person? Keep up the grind and live your best life.

i used to work at a dealership and I hate them I would NEVER bring my van to a dealership unless it had a recall that needed to be serviced. and even then I would take a very long video of the inside and outside before bringing it into service. You need to understand for warranty jobs, the techs don't get paid like a normal service. and they are timed. Our warranty services were capped at 10 hours and if the job took longer than that they wouldn't pay us more for it unless we put in (through long paperwork process) why it was taking so long. And usually if you put in more then a few times they would lay you off. You need to understand the dealership is not your friend none of the service guys even really know you. where if you go to a mechanics shop you get to know all the guys that work there and can even tip them directly. don't go to a dealership there's a reason why they get a bad name.

Agreed, however, this issue was likely caused by 13,000 miles oil change intervals. If he doesn't start changing the oil every 5,000 miles, he experience the since mechanical issues again.

Yeah.. Turbo charged car should not go until 13K miles. The engine oil is also used to cool the turbocharger and that SHT get HOT AF.
