I’m still in my twenties but one of the first things I did in my early twenties was learn about money. I learned about retirement, emergency funds, etc. I listened to financial podcasts, shows, blogs, etc. It helped that I just was never a big spender so I have lived pretty minimally. I paid off my car, paid off medical debts, etc. I still have my student loan left but it’s definitely one of my goals next year to throw ridiculous amounts at it.

I'm still in my 20s (I'm 23, turning 24 in january), but even though we aren't the same age, I feel like we've grown up together somehow. I started watching your videos in 2011/2012, when you were still making make-up tutorials, make-up collection videos and hauls and I always wondered (not just following you, but other creators as well) how a person could need so much make-up, but without even noticing it I started doing the same thing, collecting eyeshadows, thinking about new MAC collections, hunting down special blushes and lipsticks that left me with a huge collection I didn't even reach for. I've spent so much money on things that I wouldn't use, but that my phantasy self would surely need eventually, like MACs Steamy eyeshadow. I've tried it once and it looks horrible on me! 🙈 I'm currently learning to be a bit more thoughtful about my purchases and trying to buy things that fit my actual self. 😊 Your video about your phantasy self has really opened my eyes!

I have just purchased 5 designer handbags (second hand market) in October alone and I am still on the lookout for another one (Chanel Classic Double Flap) because my fantasy self is a famous KZbinr who goes to events and is a major Instagram influencer who has to post OOTDs and should not be seen repeating outfits. MOST of the makeup I bought because of youtube...I could have paid off a car but instead I bought tons of makeup. It's only really in the last 1-2 years that I have dialed back on compulsive shopping. I'm now trying to use things up, declutter what I don't need, and discover what I truly enjoy and want in my life. Makeup is one of those things, small "pick me ups" that start to add up quickly. It's always something that "fits" unlike clothes so it always made me feel good. As much as it's nice to have those small pleasures, I know in the long run, paying off credit card balances will make me feel better.

Makeup. I spend thousands of pounds on it over the years, got into debt (which I’m still paying off at 33). Yes, I can relate to this video so much. My dumbest purchase would also have to be the fancy apartment - although that happened last year (at 31). I live with my boyfriend, we had to move and nothing compared to our last apartment. We found the fancy, luxury apartment with all the amenities (which we never ended up using) and after living there for a few months my boyfriend lost his job and I had to support the both of us. Rent plus utilities took up an entire paycheck and I still had to pay the massive debts I accrued from all of the stupid stuff "I just had to buy" in my 20s. We moved out after a year and I'm still paying for that apartment. We did really enjoy living there but since we never had any money, we never got to go out and explore our new neighborhood and do things.

I’m so glad you chose to tackle this topic, Allison! You’re so sensible and over the years you’ve taught and inspired me so much from makeup to traveling to Iceland by myself. I’m turning 24 this year and I LOVED hearing your thoughts on how you felt certain decoration/upgrades to your apartments were a bit excessive. I have a lot of friends who invest a lot in their apartments and, granted, their places are a lot more homey, but I struggle to rationalize spending my money on furniture/decorations I don’t love (I often prefer more expensive pieces that I can see myself keeping for a long time) or might not be able to keep in future moves. I think right now I probably waste money in my fantasy self-travel edition. Aka buying expensive clothes that look great in foreign locations, but would seem out of place at my job/day-to-day life!

On the appartment Thing: there is actually a lot of potential in small appartments, if you are creative with furniture and decor. The most important Thing is to have the room shaped as squarely as possible, because then you actually have more space to move after putting in the furniture. Hello from Everett, WA. Girl, I love how you are keeping it real in this video! Sometimes these things are hard to admit. I have been listening to Dave Ramsay and this goes right along with his messages, and is very applicable in my life. Especially my "fantasy self." Thanks so much.

I totally feel you on the REI bit... I'm buying these things to go trekking across the United States when I can barely hike up a hill for 15 minutes. Dx

Love this video! It's so crazy that I was literally contemplating buying that chloe bag, but in a different color today. I put it in my cart and everything. I imagined all the places I would go and outfits I would wear it with after quarantine. I decided to think it over more before taking the plunge and a few hours later I come across this video. It was exactly what I needed!

Hi Allison, I just discovered your channel and like it very much. 😊 Regarding the Chloé handbag: as you already own it I would try to just wear it, no matter if it gets stained. It is a beautiful bag and should be worn if it is in your household. Just my opinion..

Also with the Chloe bag, use it! I bought just the same in a gorgeous red colour as a wedding gift to myself (because why not hah!) and I’ve used it twice since last December. I’m a nurse so I use a backpack to get to and from work, I have 3 year old twins so I use a backpack when I’m out with them and when we have family days out. I’m in Scotland so, rain...but I’m definitely keeping it and when my kids are 16 it’ll be my every day bag...only 13 years to go!

Full Make up! If a collection came out I brought the whole thing. Ie: The Revlon Lip Butters. I got every color and only ended up wearing I think two of the shades.

Wow, the decorating my apartment and fantasy self definitely are getting me! I am so into furnishing my rented house but in all honestly I shouldn't be spending that much money because I'm living here two years max! And I have lots of dresses I would love to wear but it's already winter here!
