I've swapped my 1/4 and 3/8 from Matco to Pittsburgh from Harbor Freight. HF ratchets have come along way from the original 10 tooth ones😂

SATA and Gearwrench are both Apex. The SATA usually have less teeth, that's probably 60 or 72 tooth mechanism vs the 90 tooth Since my 90T Gearwrench ratchets are a bit fast and loose on the tolerances, I assume the SATA a bit more grabby in between positions due to the larger teeth. I wouldn't call them high end or high quality based on my experiences, but will say they are excellent value for money and more than enough ratchet for DIY automotive use. IMHO, ratchets that freewheel in the middle position are the ones that slip out unexpectedly during use and bust your knuckles. Ratchets that bind or flip into the nearest position when the lever is bumped are fine by me.

The springs may be too weak on those Workpro ratchets. Plus, I'd say they need cleaned out real good and oiled. I can't bring myself to buy cheap ratchets anymore. I'm 47 now, I've learned a lot about what to look for in a good one, and I just don't have the time for the headache of dealing with the uber-cheap stuff anymore.

Many ratchets arent oiled from the factory. Most likely, some oil and some breaking in will help them

they should work from the factory, if you have to perform maintenance on a tool you just bought that's unacceptable

@@reazonplayz7199 Just stating facts. Everything needs a break in period. Batteries need to be cycled, Boots need to be oiled, new jeans are stiff, cookware has to be baked, leather goods...three ratchets for $20, expect a compromise and add few drops of oil unless you choose to buy a $300 Snap-On. And even they need a period of de-burring to loosen up
