A few thought on this: 1. People complaining that we’re losing a British icon forget that Tata owns Jaguar. 2. I legitimately can’t tell if they’re gonna be like “haha, we pranked you! Actually we’re not changing anything”. 3. I’d love to see how sales are impacted in a year’s time. This whole redesign is bonkers. Who would want to be seen in a Jaguar now after this redesign?

Yeah Tata owns Jaguar, but they've done so since 2008. They haven't interfered till now with the classic Bri'ish feel of the brand cause the cars were selling; hell Tata did a far better job than Ford ever did with Jaguar since Ford never managed to turn a profit with the company for the 18 years they owned it. But Big A is totally right in that the plummeting sales is the cause for this rebrand though. In 2023 Jaguar also announced they were gonna move towards becoming an all-electric brand by 2025, afaik they don't produce a single non-electric car now. The British icon would be lost either way. I guess they figured the old messaging simply doesn't make sense for this new Jaguar, which I don't know if I agree with. But I can begin to understand the decision, and they can always switch back if this strategy doesn't land.

It is, unfortunately, more about a kind of psychological warfare of getting the brand and brand image into your brain. You know what McDonald’s, Google, and Amazon are as companies, they’re household names. Brands want to be household names, they want you know who they’re marketing to, Jaguar for example probably wants to be regarded as a luxury car company, so when you think of them you don’t put them on the same mental tier as Nissan or Kia. That is what marketing is all about. Ads that want direct consumer purchases are more on social media like TikTok for small purchases you don’t think twice about. URGENT SALE ENDING IN 20 MINUTES, NORMALLY $20 BUT ITS $2 RIGHT NOW GOGOGO. Or those take a silly quiz and then pay us 99 cent for the result. Brand and brand image don’t matter for those

No, but people who are already in the market for a new car will often think, "hey, what's that new model I've been seeing ads for for the past couple weeks?" They might not buy that model at the end, but the ad at least might cause them to check it out. Marketing doesn't really exist to convince you to buy a product that you don't want; usually the primary purpose (especially for big brands) is awareness - to ensure that that specific brand is the first thing you think of WHEN you decide to buy that product.
