Quest 92, Making History: Expands upon the lore of Ardougne, required to complete Song of the Elves. Short-Long, 3 quest points. Quest 93, Ratcatchers: You catch rats and are rewarded with a silly pole upon which to store said rats. Not required for any other quest. Long-Very Long, 2 quest points.
@ryanscott6584 жыл бұрын
The other one like rat catchers to me is the rag and bone man 2... Im aware it was a "mini" first, doesn't change that it is a quest, and has been so since 2017. It is epically long for some meh fashion scape, that has so-so bonuses, (Specifically the ram helm only for bonuses, the sack is just fashionscape.). Oh, and it's not a pre-req for anything / doesn't give an adequate amount of QPS (1..?), or rewards in general for all the hidden reqs / legging around you have to do. Honestly, the next stand alone "grand master" quest should be a 3rd installment of it that provides some story development besides, "Some weird old mountain dwelling guy, partnered with a *talking sack of bones*, who unironically has a bone fetish, yet is too lazy to get them himself, needs your help!" The 3rd rabm should require getting several boss bones, and or very high level / req npc bones. Which upon completing should give at least 5 qps and an actually decent reward(s) and or a new useful area unlock. Something, literally anything to make this quest line have any purpose.

It's the same thing with Client of Kourend. First of all, when your character says "I have no choice" it means they ran out of ideas or incentives for why your character should care about doing the quest. That's when you lose me in RPGs because in an RPG I should never feel like I "need" to do anything. Also don't give your character too much dialogue. RS has always been pretty good at giving your player character just enough witty comebacks to have conversation and be funny but not insert unwanted levels of personality into him. Kourend inserted so much dialogue that it was frustrating.

As someone who has edited the RSWiki for quite a while (inactive now) I can say that the 'lead developer' thing probably was taken from the site back in 2005 or so, when the Knowledge Base still existed. So, the Lead Developer attribution was very likely taken from there.

I've been waiting for this one. I'm a huge fan of quests myself -- they're easily my favorite part of the game. All of the other content in OSRS is swell, but nothing quite captures the spirit of adventuring like a good quest. And when I started this one, I had pretty much the exact same reaction as you: "Literally wtf is this? Am I the only one who's noticed how awful this is?" And so I searched what people had to say about Ratcatchers and found out that the general consensus was in fact that it was one of the worst quests in the game, but primarily because of the maze, to which I thought, like you, "Nah, the maze is fine. A bit tedious maybe, but so many quests have somewhat tedious puzzles." (Looking at you Mourning's End Part II. Though to be fair, "tedious" doesn't quite capture just how shockingly aggravating that quest is.) Anyway, my point is, I thought this quest was god-awful for the exact reasons you bring up in this video: the dialogue and story. I'm fond of reading every little bit of text in the game (even reading every book I receive in its entirety), but the dialogue in this one consistently made me want to scratch my eyes out and slowly bleed to death. Literally just sentence after sentence of some of the most horrific writing I've ever seen. And like, okay, maybe the guy who wrote the dialogue wasn't super experienced -- I get it. Writing dialogue is hard. But there is NO EXCUSE for the sheer volume of spelling mistakes and other grammatical errors. Setting aside proofreading, which clearly didn't happen, it's like whoever wrote this was doing it as fast as possible and wasn't even looking at the text he had written. And the barrage of totally unnecessary asides and parentheticals! Why are you going to mention Jimmy Dazzler's dazzling smile 75 times if you're not even going to do anything with that information!? Drives me nuts. Anyway, good vid. Legitimately hope someone at Jagex takes you up on that offer of rewriting this quest.

I like the opportunity the NPC's *in* the Rat Pits present post-quest. There's ample room for fleshing out the populace of any given town by adding in some flavor NPC's, like Segira in Keldagrim who is from Al Kharid and thus opens the world significantly (dwarves aren't really found all over the place, but the implication is they can be)! Definitely needs some revamping, but seeing fresh life pumped into this is honestly something I could say I'd be genuinely hyped for~

when i played it through recently for the first time in at least 12+ years, the first thing i noticed is the length of it, after the stealth segment, youve done 2/5 parts, the reward lines up with that length of quest, then maybe u can unlock the other 3 in your own time since these are miniquests comparable to early RFD segments. theyre all unconnected having awkward locations, ardougne to varrock to keldagrim to port sarim to pollivneach back to port sarim. this isnt a natural chain with aids for low levels like the biohazard boat that goes straight to the chemist. for unique mechanics introduced, stealth mechanics are fun (sorcerer's garden covered), the smoking pot is not used but can be made again, the snake charming pipe is unused, the inspiration from time relevant zeldas using magic instruments is obvious but it's uses are not as plot relevant since it's only taking lvl 5 snakes, removing snakes from jars in pyramid plunder, and moving low level critters, the Rats. to me, it seems like a natural hunter tool, attracting kebbits, chinchompas or rabbits or something, at some point maybe it's upgraded, or you are taught more songs, or u buy it for rat catching tokens who knows. possible changes. the old minigames: Ratpits, Trouble Brewing, Fishing Trawler and Gnome Restaurant, lack in quality of life compared to modern additions; Tempoross, Giants Foundry, wintertodt, GotR. theres no xp, uniques, supply crates, or for ones with a lot of running, an energy recover, when you give them these, there's incentive to play them. as an example, - you could communicate with your cat at the end of a fight and they could catspeak and teach you about agility and thieving as a wily cat, or strength as an overgrown. - each city could have a unique cosmetic contributing to a set, a cat suit or a ratsuit, i dont know. - the towns can each offer different supplies in their crates, port sarim has a food, fishing, jewelry and a rune shop, keldagrim ore, bars, weapons. - more songs for your snake charming pipe, or an upgrade for hunting.

I recently returned to RS and I have been doing all quests with joy! Reading everything and understanding it better now I am older. I didn't know how bad RatCatchers quest was, I subconsciously skipped through the dialogue.. I think a higher being wanted to shield me from this garbage.

Seeing my brother play this and watching him rage just made me think the game sucked

You are actually just the king of comedy content. You are doing some new funny ass shit that no one does. I love you

Wow. I thought you were going to skip recording this quest or briefly mention it or something. But fuck man, you turned what i thought was going to be a filler episode into something genuinely funny and creative! This is why you're my favorite osrs content creator

Why did you agressively ignore talking about the maze? I get that you have bigger grievances, but most people are stuck there for hours. Also neglected to make pot of weed jokes.

Didn't notice how horrid that dialogue with the dwarf was, probably got sick of the quest during the mansion because those guards aren't on rails, so their paths go out of sync and it becomes litterally impossible to progress unless you can find a world where they aren't broken

not done with the video yet, but the whole body shaming and mockery of others that permeates the original dialogue is frankly appalling, even for the time

Does it really matter? Most of the NPCs in the quest are genuinely fucking ugly.

Love that there's a quest critique like this. Quests definitely one of my favorite parts of the game if not my most favorite. Maybe do the RS3 ones too

Having done the 170 quest point grind like 8 times, rat catchers is easily the worst quest in the game, not only terrible mechanically, but also some of the worst writing in the game too. You sometimes get one or the other in a osrs quest but this is one of the only ones with both

I really like the reward for this quest because it unlocks about 4 different locations on the Minigame Teleporter that were pains in the ass to get to before as an Ironman.
