Even with a guide and being fully prepared knowing what's coming that puzzle is STILL a god damned nightmare. I definitely expect that to be something they remark on is that quest difficulty out of nowhere, especially with the non-linear nature of the questing and just out of nowhere really ramp up. Especially when you think about quests that were made much later so they have a natural difficulty curve in them that blindsides you where "hard quests" back in the day might pass as an intermediate quest by standards of a couple years later. Not to mention backported quests that had their difficulty ramped up like While Guthix Sleeps because the original fight while being ridiculous for that time compared to the average player skill, would be a joke compared to today just because high level play back in that era is now "decent" and something that's kind of a basic skill people have. Prayer swapping and gear switches are done by moderate players instead of exclusively sweatlords playing within the sauna itself.

The random events was made as an antibotting measure. Back in the day there used to be events that could spawn aggressive enemies and also sometimes your axe/pickaxe would break so you had to repair it. If you didn't respond to the NPC they would teleport you away. They eventually made it optional since players thought it was really annoying and it didn't really help against bots.
@LoganChristianson19 күн бұрын

@Jaxter098718 күн бұрын
Eh, I think as they currently are, they still kind of help with rudimentary botting. An annoyed real player would just react and right click dismiss or do the event if they're not annoyed/ busy. I would find it hard to believe a bot was stable enough and advanced enough to be able to perform the appropriate reaction when the events spawn. So I could see it as sort of a screening process for Jagex to pay attention to accounts that don't interact with the event at all and let the events go away on their own multiple times. Not immediate signs of bot behavior but at least an account to look into more.

(MOD?) You know what would enhance this even more. The fact that you have no social interaction in-game at the moment, is in it’s own right a pity, for your game experience. Particularly because many of us that have played the OGRS, learned about the world of RuneScape together. Perhaps if you are able to make a community of true Newbies (vetted by tests), you could have a sort of that same experience. To learn and teach each other, to have a possibility of that same type of experience. Not only would that possibly enhance it, it would make this series hyper-unique, and even more legendary. Historically, those minigames were for anti-bot measures and you were forced to do them or the NPC would kill you if you ignored them and the rewards were there for the inconvenience. The OldSchool team opted to take them out as they are a bit annoying as a forced gameplay mechanic, but it has its charm and they polled the community who opted to keep them but make them optional. There are other anti-bot "minigames" they took out altogether though as they only existed to punish. While fishing you could lose your net and it would flow downstream and you'd have to retrieve it, while wood cutting or mining your axe head would fly off (and if you didn't pick it up within a minute, other people could take it), and some creatures would spawn to just straight up kill you and you had to flee because they scaled to be above your combat level.

@@Unkindpigeon. I mean, technically armor equipped DOES affect the energy expended because we know there are weight reducing pieces of gear that don't take effect when in inventory. So even the original statement isn't true even though I understand what you meant.

I dont think he realizes the difficulty of what he thinks he is going to do. Quest cape with 0 guides? Yea, sure mate. He will either quit, start using a guide, or finish in over 5 years time. He really has no idea lol

hah alright as a runescape fan who has pretty much never played the game (but got sucked into Settled's Swampletics series), this is what I need. Blind playthrough that takes one million hours, cozy comfort watch for the rest of my life. Subscribed.

First off, loving the series. Second: You were totally on track with the Random NPC's popping up as a form of "Bot control" - These are called Random events and they used to be forced on the players, today they're optional. Bots became so advanced that it was no longer a deterrent, but players missed the interactions and little cosmetic rewards and such so, Jagex reincorporated them back into the game. With the exception of the aggressive ones. There used to be a few that would pop up and start to kill you. For example the "Evil Chicken" was notorious. Instead of removing it entirely, the Evil chicken now has been resided to a peaceful lifestyle in a small chicken coop inside the Champions guild south of Varrock.

Hell yeah! I hope you can experience as many quests as possible, it’s a lot of fun and very good unlocks for the account

The random events were initially anti-botting measures. They used to be forced events. You did not get to say no. Botters found ways around, so they changed them to be more player-friendly instead of disruptive. Some were straight up deadly, spawning monsters that could kill you rather easily at low levels, or straight up causing an explosion, or destroying your equipment, so on so forth. Now, they're mostly collection logs and xp lamps for fun.

im so glad u decided to continue with doing the osrs stuff

Random Events definitely started as an anti-botting measure, and worked quite well in the early 2000s. They also were less frequent but NOT optional (NPCs would attack you, take you to "jail", break your equipment, etc. if ignored for too long). Unfortunately bots evolved and were able to solve them with ease, so now they're just in the game as a way for low-level accounts and ironmen to get small rewards. There's also some "rare" unique items you can get from them (un-tradable cosmetics, mostly), so some people like to try to collect them.

Yo middleman, please tell Madseason these two things. 1. If you click on a quest in the log, it'll bring up a journal of it. If you haven't started, it'll tell you the skill and quest requirements, and starting location. If you have started, it'll have in-character notes to remind you what you have done and what you need to do next. 2. A bit of history; those random events were originally bot control, and didn't let you choose to participate or not. If you're a human then it's piss easy to finish them and get back to where you were, with some reward for the time taken away. Nowadays bots are so advanced that they can easily do endgame content, so they changed the events to be optional.

Run Energy regenerates based on Agility level and on weight. That includes inventory and equipped items. Basically, every 5 agility levels, you get into the next category for run energy, starting at 7.5 seconds per 1% energy (spe). This can be reduced down to 1.875 spe with high enough levels and full graceful. This turns a 12.5 minute regen into just over 3 minutes. Another tech is Canafis Rooftop is glitched. You'll get the most marks on it, so just sticking it out there is what many players do until they get their full set. No Spoiler Version: dev won't fix glitch, makes OP for funny tradition
