Maddie no excuse. Its the band director's fault for not teaching them properly. Look at Japans Elementary school and come back saying they are children trying to perform. Japan's elementary schools play at a college level or higher. That's because they teach them properly not only how to play but techniques on playing.

At this point, you can hardly blame the musicians. Depending on the circumstances, perhaps even the instructor isn’t at fault. It takes something rather strange to have kids playing at this skill level at a concert
@ploopyrahhh2 жыл бұрын
Hot cross buns?! Babe it’s 3 notes, I learned how to play that song on my trumpet the first day I got it😭
@thatrandomguygaming3242 жыл бұрын
@@ploopyrahhh I will say, musical “starting skill” varies widely. It is especially wild with high brass. Some kids get it right off the bat, such as yourself, but I have seen many student struggle to produce and sustain a note for several sessions. If I were to make an educated guess on why this concert blows (haha), I would say that their director didn’t specialize in a brass or reed instrument, and struggled to teach the first steps effectively. This frequency causes critical problems in a beginner’s technique that can impact their development significantly. As someone who can still only get a few partials out of a trumpet, there are often external factors that influence performances of this caliber. Cheers, glad to hear you’re still loving music.
@thedude98732 жыл бұрын
@@thatrandomguygaming324 either the director is a strings director, or they just had a substitute and the director was on leave for being pregnant or smth. It doesn’t even sound like they warmed up or rehearsed though and at this level usually schools maintain the instruments so something very odd is going on here… IMO I never blame the kids unless they just don’t practice but this seems like the director didn’t even teach basics 😭😭😭
@ploopyrahhh2 жыл бұрын
@@thatrandomguygaming324 True it does vary but I wasn’t trying to be rude I swear. I just thought that hot cross buns would be something everyone first learns. I do think the director was probably teaching the students in a way they didn’t understand which could make it very difficult for kids to learn.
@thatrandomguygaming3242 жыл бұрын

I heard squeaks, wrong notes, and.... well that was pretty much it. A for effort though. They should have done more practicing. My Band teacher forces us to do 2 and a half hours a week, but really expects us to do more. We have two practices a week, adding up to two hours. There is one song we have, and if we can learn it by February sixth, we get to play with the Senior band, which are the people who have been in band for 3 years or longer. It's called Ayre and Dance, by Bruce Pearson. I play tenor saxophone in it.
@airsoftboi110410 жыл бұрын
good luck, i'v been playing alto sax for about 5 years. we are playing a piece called danse carnivale. it is pretty fun and really easy to play (then again, ayre and dance would be child's play compared to this one XD) but anyways, i heard wrong rhythms, notes, tons of squeaks, terrible articulation, no dynamics, anything. if there is one thing i learned from being in band, it is that you need to first learn the notes, scales are the best way to do this. then, learn rhythms (different rest and note patterns, as well as different time signatures), up to about 16th notes. then, once you learn all that, get the articulations and dynamics down!!!!!!! the tenor sax player at my school slurs everything and is loud as balls, and trust me that is not how you want to do it. blend in with the other members, don't be a one man band. and above all, follow tempo!!! my band director told us today "don't worry about the notes, you have that, pay attention to the dynamic markings, articulation, and tempo. we got a song a couple weeks ago called repercussions with 16th note trills, slurred quarter and eighth notes, loud dynamics, accidentals, crescendos up the butt, all sorts of stuff. we pretty much got it perfected with just a couple little hiccups left in about 2 weeks time. just keep practising, and listen to the band director.
@briguy6906910 жыл бұрын
***** If the tenor player at your school is loud as balls... tell him to get a softer reed. I used a 2, most of the other people use a 2 1/2. Our songs that we're doing are pretty basic. Couple crescendos, slurs, not anything too difficult. For me. I'm kind of... musically talented, let's say. As for the other people in band, I'm not even sure some of them practice. In one of our songs, I have to play pianissimo at the beginning, and end with fortissimo. So unless he's supposed to be playing forte or fortissimo... well honestly I don't know. I caught on pretty quick and can play really quiet or quite loud. How long has he been playing the tenor?
@airsoftboi110410 жыл бұрын
cool. we just nailed every other band to the wall at the district festival playing danse carnivale, hypnotic fireflies, and repercussions. we were the first ones today to get straight ones (perfect score) so we are going to state in may. this is going to be great!!!

This sounds like a beginning band's first concert. I think they sound great. This is what they are supposed to sound like. You don't know how much rehearsal time they have with their teacher each week. You don't know if their parents tell them not to practice at home. You have no idea what the circumstances are here.
@whatsaname92336 ай бұрын
Beginning band does not mean absolutely atrocious band. This is not what they are "supposed to" sound like. They're supposed to be able to properly play one of the easiest pieces of music out there. You're right that we dont know their circumstances but that does not magically mean their atrocious playing is not atrocious. It just means their atrocious playing might have an excuse.

Not sure if this was the goal for this group - obviously a beginning level 5th or 6th grade group. When I was in middle school, we had a small portion of our first concert dedicated to sounding like absolute garbage on purpose so that our parents could see how much improvement we actually made. I haven't watched part 2 or 3, but as a band director today - there is no excuse for something like this. Even during COVID 19 groups are sounding better than this that meet once a week for a half hour.

When I was in middle school band, we played all of our first songs like we did when we first learned them. This was to show that we didnt know what we were doing at first but then throughout the concert we started playing more advanced pieces and sounded better. I wonder if they may be intentionally playing bad, since this is one of the first songs most bands play. They may be acting like this is the first time they played and then they are going to play it like the actually can afterwards.

Apparently my middle school's band was so bad, the teachers decided to play the same song through the speakers that sounded better and try to make it seem like it was the students playing music. In the middle of it, a ringtone went off through the speakers and everyone found out the teacher had the music playing from the phone and it interrupted the music. They acted like nothing happened but shit spread like wildfire and everyone knew they faked it.
