I have had lucid dreams multiple times - I actually had a dream like that this last night, which lasted probably about 10 minutes - and my impression is that those self-aware dreams are apparently similar to hallucinogenic drugs in a lot of ways; I usually feel as if everything in those dreams is "alive", and that I am on a highly spiritual journey in a way, and this seems to be relatable to a lot of LSD users. I remember telling myself during this recent lucid dream "holy crap, I am actually asleep in bed right now!" while I was walking around in the dream, and that made everything almost feel like an out-of-body experience.

Out of the two subreddit r/meth seems better because they actually somewhat seem to care about expressing the dangers of drug use, as well as people posting recovery stories to motivate others to try quitting as well. Places like r/trees, the weed subreddit, are horrible as any kind of mention on overuse of weed can actually have negative effects on you and your life will be met with hostility and anger.

I don't personally have any experiences with any illegal drugs, but I typically imagine the urge for drugs a little bit like the urge for water when you are almost dying from thirst; I believe that this is more or less accurate, except of course that water is actually crucial for life, whereas illegal drugs are basically the complete opposite of that.

Well, in an experience with a PHYSICALLY addicting drug (heroin/fent or opioids) it’s sort of like that. Withdrawal feels like ur body is being doused in hot grease, every nerve fires up. You kick, you thrash, you sweat, you vomit. Your whole body burns like hell and every second feels like an hour. So you’re sort of right, bc whenever you get into that state, you almost go primal, because your brain goes into shock without the drug. The same way it would if you didn’t have food or water, your brain overproduces adrenaline. You panic, you start to lose your sanity. Even if it’s not “essential” your brain and body go into utter shock and it sadly becomes essential to function. That’s why most opiate users report not getting high anymore, they just use to not be sick. Cocaine and meth are more mentally addictive, rather than physical. But it still causes cravings supposedly. Never try hard drugs! I’m sure you don’t need me to tell you that,but still. Especially not opiates. Love yourself, and stay away from them because when you start using you start to realize how beautiful sobriety is. Keep up not using, and keep appreciating the wonderful life you have! (Sorry for the novella, just thought your comparison was very insightful for someone who doesn’t have experience with anything like that.)

With stimulants its more that if you take too much (and most stims besides coke are very strong per MG, so the difference between the right amount and overdoing it can be a quarter the tip of your pinky) EVERYTHING can seem *critically important*, however you also become scattered and unfocused as everything is interesting enough picking one thing becomes increasingly difficult. Also doing literally anything at all feels great. Thats why you see people joke about tweakers and coloring books. So what happens is you still have that thing you took the drug to do, but its not done and youve spent the last 6 hours zipping around and starting but not finishing a dozen different things and it starts wearing out and you realize the thing you needed done is still not done. So you figure "Well ill just take a bit more and finish up then go to bed" Rinse and repeat until its been 72 hours none of which have involved food or anything to drink besides beer (beer is tweaker meta because it has some form of hydration but also alcohol to round the edge off). the thing you need done is still likely not done and youve now spent a 3 days period of time feeling the kind of importance you would feel if you just finished the mona lisa. So people crash, sleep a day or so, wake up profoundly hungry, go demolish some food then go back to bed or watch some TV or whatever THE NEXT DAY or the day after, the seed that can start an addiction comes in, the full mental effect tends to come 24 to 48 hours afterwards as both the residual drug in system exits and you decompress from the emotional intensity. Everything just seems really REALLY boreing in comparison to the satisfaction the day prior counting hairs on your arm. Obviously it varys based on how high a dose how frequently, You adjust back to normal pretty quick, 1-4 days generally, but depending on how compulsively you took the stuff and what you took that time can be somewhere between mild boredom and poor focus, possibly some irritability, to being so unmotivated getting up and grabbing a glass of water seems impossible. Which doesent sound as bad as youd think given the extremity of the experience prior, but for people who do SERIOUS abuse like smokeing or injecting stims that lack of interest can be so severe its hell on earth in the "why bother breathing anymore if nothings interesting?" kind of way, even if they are mentally aware its just a hangover. the sensation can get bad enough that waiting a few days can be unmanageable, so then people do more. Problem is mentally they just went from "nothing matters" to "the humming i did while washing the dishes was profound" Which reinforces the association with the drug and literally anything worth careing about. This cycle repeats and as it carrys on theres less and less time between binges until people are just all day everyday hitting massive doses, like what would have kept them awake the first 3 days is just the get up in the morning and function for 3 hours after long enough at a point the brain protects itself by slowing down or shutting down dopamine production. It takes alot of abuse to get to that point, but once you do that 2 to 3 days of feeling horrible becomes a month and theres no way off that train until you endure that month. *this* is the part where you see people stumbling up the street at 3 am screaming at lamp posts, theres no amount they can take to feel happy, but *something* feels overwhelmingly important and dispite that they can no longer care.
