SMALLRIG do a phone case/cage now for certain phones, with metal Moment mounts. The case also has 1/4-20 threads and cold shoe mounts around it to attach microphones etc. Best part is they’re only $40

Well yes, I could certainly do that, but the thing I find these lenses best for is being able to whip my phone out and capture video super quickly. If I had to carry them separately, it would make it a less useful tool, and to be honest, even carrying just the lens separate in a pocket feels really bulky.

@@andrew-in-sf Of course it's convenient, but it's also kind of obvious that it's gonna damage the mounting mechanism in the long run. Still I agree, they could use an even stronger material.

@@famatu removing and attaching it too sometimes feels as if it will wear out the threading on the mobile cover end. I use a mobile strap to keep the phone around my neck with the lens attached.

no that case will break every time and if you use it a lot. broke on me and my lense fell in the water. 100 dollar down the drain. they sent me a new case but now I baby the hell out of it and I never carry it with the lense on it anymore because I just dont trust the case and lens. it does get on my nerves to have to pull the lense out and put it on over and over. I travel the world shooting and its annoying now doing it but hey what can we do. I like using my phone a lot more than my sony a7r2. just my opinion

I have no idea why Moment and Sandmarc make such crap cases... really takes away from what is a good product. I’ve had both and I absolutely HATED taking off my simple silicone case for their cheap plastic ones. I refuse to believe that they can’t develop a case that’s “crash proof”.

I got an iPhone 11 Pro and my biggest fear is for the case to break and scratch the phone lenses. I hope they redesign the case with a sturdier bracket. With the new iPhone I use the moment lens sporadically but the fear is always there.

Same. I had mine attached to the phone case and the phone slid off my dashboard vent mount onto the center car cup holder. No biggie, just a 1 foot fall for a super solid lens, I wasn’t worried. But when I picked it up I noticed the case has broken at the exact same mounting point. Literally super weak. It should be metal or something stronger than thin plastic. Now I have a lens I can’t use.

I had to buy THREE CASES. After my first case lens mount broke when carrying in my pocket after less than a year of use, I have made sure not to carry my phone with the lens attached in my pocket anymore, even though I was careful when carrying that way before. I wrote to Moment customer service. They did not replace it, but instead gave me a 20% or 30% (I forget) "damaged gear "discount code to specifically buy another phone case. I'm assuming they get a lot of similar reports/complaints, having set up that code. However, less than a year later, I have my second compromised Moment case, at the lens mounting bracket. After the first break, I've been always super careful about the lens attachment process and always took it off between shoots. So, now I will probably have to BUY A THIRD MOMENT CASE to replace the first two broken, now pieces of crap. I'm practically over it. Love the lenses, hate the way they don't upgrade their sub-performing cases, nor replace them when they fail. Cases not only should protect your phone, but Moment phone cases should also protect the lens set up, no!? That is the whole reason you buy their case, to add the lens element. And they are not cheap to buy, nor keep replacing. I am gentle with my phone when the lens is on (particularly after the first lens mount bracket cracked), so I have no idea why a another crack started to appear on my latest case, and then subsequently a piece, over time, just broke off. To be honest, at this point, I regret buying the two lenses (fish eye and wide), two traveling lens cases, the cleaning pen, and two (soon to be THREE) phone cases. Because when the new phone case inevitably breaks, AGAIN, the whole system will be rendered useless. To make things more painful, I travel 9 months of the year, and the countries I go to I have found do not carry Moment cases for sale. To say I am annoyed and disappointed is an understatement.

I am looking for a case with built-in lens mount for galaxy s21+ but i see nothing else but moment cases. I don't think the adapter fits lenses made by other companies. I would love to hear about if there are any alternative phone cases which allows attaching lenses like apexel.

You're saying the lense is being "ripped out" this means with force. I imagine moment development the attachment so that it could withstand forces only the lense would create and not that of torsion from foreign objects like trousers. From an engineering perspective, imagine both case and lense are made from the same strength material. When additional outside force is added something will give but now the odds are equal, that means the lense would give too.

I first used the moment lens on Samsung S8, and the initial experience was great. As you said, I was pretty confident in using the lens and always trust the case to hold the lens up without a problem. I took a lot of photo and video like you. (There was only one lens on the phone, and the slot to fit the moment lens was pretty strong in my opinion.) But as I moved up to S10+, there are now 3 lenses, and the moment case has this 8-shape holes, to accommodate the three lenses. It is this new design that seem to have weak holding power for the heavy lens. And the little plastic(?) on the case (to hold the lens) started to chip and eventually failed. I called moments, send them a photo of the cracked plastic area, and they replaced the case. I did not even put the lens on the case like you. It was only through regular putting the lens on and taking it off the S10+ case. Just like you, I no longer 'trust' the case to hold the lens, and as a result, my moments lens are now sitting at home, and I am using them less. Wish Moments would 'strengthen' their case (particularly for those phone with multiple lenses, and the lens holder has less structural support for the 'heavy' moment lens. Heavy = solid lens --> good! But more lens on phone lead to structural weakness for the tiny bit of plastics holding the heavy lens --> poor!

I agree with you that strengthening the Moment cases (in the lens holding area) will help restore confidence in their products. If you can't trust the phone case to hold on to the lens, you won't use the lens and soon this becomes a vicious cycle...

Options: 1: Look for a 3rd moment fitting case. 2: Switch to Sandmarc system where the lenses have threads and screw into the case. 3: Try an alternate form of carrying the iPhone with lenses attached while in your jeans pocket. Examples: Fanny pack 😂, shoulder pack, unscrew the lenses on& off quickly, iPhone attached to a lanyard with the lenses.

Get a small belt pouch with either a drawstring, a zipper , or a Velcro latch , and get it large enough to reach in flat handed to grip and pull out the phone. Much cheaper than continually replacing $45 phone cases.

One solution is the PolarPro case. The mounting plate is metal on their case and it's strong enough to have an optional hand support mounted onto the edges and even an optional bluetooth shutter release.

Had the same issue, but I don't even know how my lens mount broke. I've received my iPhone 12 now and have pre-ordered their thin case with mount. They're user replaceable now for $4.99, so I suppose this is a much more sound solution then replacing the entire case.

hmm thats unfortunate. i would probably be putting it in my jacket pocket myself so its less likely for this to happen but i dont know either. i wonder if you were handy enough could you machine or 3d print a part that would reinforce the case part? only other thing i could think of that might help your situation would be to 3d print a U shaped bracket that you could stick onto the case just under the lens and then let the bracket part hang on the top of your pocket. it would look stupid but it would take the weight off the lens at least

I have literally the same behaviour pattern. I just plonk the lens and the phone in the pocket as you mentioned, I baby my lenses quite a bit. Have lost a couple of lens covers, The lens connector to the phone feels flimsy compared to the lenses themselves. I have the exact same feelings towards moment. Love them, wish it was a little better.

Jason Ong Honestly the camera cut out is thinner right now it feels tight because it brand new but I don’t see is as a permanent solution. The leather scratches and creases easily it’s also thinner than the normal moment cases my phone dosen’t feel as safe as I want it to be. For the price I paid I wouldn’t get it again I’d rather just grab a normal moment case. That being said if you’re a leather person by all means it does what it needs too just sad is thinner and dosen’t offer the same screen protection.
