The Timberwolves overpaid for Gobert-who were they trying to outbid?-but that doesn’t make it a terrible trade, especially if Minnesota wins a chip. Heck. Minnesota has the worst win percentage overall as a team in NBA history. They could make the Finals and that’s still a W. If Gobert maintains a portion of his value, Minnesota could also pivot off of their core after a few years as Ant enters his prime, Minnesota gains more pick capital, and Gobert’s contract expires or gets close to expiring. And some of those “picks” are swaps. One of those swaps is for this year’s draft. Minnesota has a slightly better record than Utah this season, so that swap is meaningless.

Rudy gobert trade looked terrible at first but this second season with him has helped us have one of our best season in franchise history. The season has not ended but we are pretty much as strong as we ever have been because of Rudy’s defence. He isn’t the only reason but he is a big one
