I also mained myself to play Goalie. One pointer I quickly picked up on is it's often far better to let the opposiing player get their strike first, it then leaves you the option of how to clear it. If you pull the trigger and hit first, the opposition player is just going to strike it back while you're in cooldown. And always keep a type of block skill ready, just in case. Also, forwards, we appreciate that you're trying to help with hanging back toward our area but you have to trust us more. A competent goalie is able to cover their entire area, you needn't chase the core, especially if you see us moving to intercept it. Keep mid-field or so and it gives us someone to safely pass to. Yes, we may sometimes need your help when everyone is huddled together or when we're being harrassed, but until then leave our area for us to take care of.

When i become (forced) to be goalie, I learned a lot about turning the tide even against estell -When there's ppl rush in, always STRIKE back into wall directions, not send back into opponent like playing pingpong and if ur team always be ready, u just made a big opportunity to score since opponent not in defence -if u saw they send projectile, always let it hit first then u can defend it using STRIKE. becuz ur STRIKE also have cd but make sure u also not in projectile range cuz if it hit u, u got stunned like estell beam or juno slime Yea Estelle is really strong when she rush in

I learnt just how terrifying Estelle could be when I foolishly tried to use Dubu's roll on the puck to give myself some more time with an Estelle just barely in her laser range and she just yeeted the puck into the goal while I was still in endlag...

This is why I don't get when people always blame the goalie and put more stress on them. It's a fun position but the hardest job for sure. You'll get there though, it just takes time and more caution and forethought. Like diverting the ball to not allow them a second shot, anticipating attack patterns to intercept an approach, and always keeping your eye on the ball and on every forward(and Luna goalie if u didn't ban that annoying character). I find Kai to be the most consistent for the job, as he can also provide backline pressure (like luna but not nearly as offensive as her). Goalie Kai is more like proactive defense.

The main thing I noticed was that you would return the puck to the attacker instead of redirecting it to the side. If it ends up getting in the possession of another player that's fine, because then you won't get in a spam match with the attacker.

When you're in a panic, you tend to shove the core back straight to the enemy. Which is understandable, since you barely play as a goalie, and as a moba player, we are too used to having our cursor hovering where the enemy is. I think the first thing you need to get into muscle memory is to move your cursor away from the enemy and try to knock the core as far away from the enemy forward. Example if the enemy is on the top, knock it to the bottom, and vice versa. After that is to have map awareness of where your ally is, it's possible that they are waiting on open field with a clear line. Or etc.

yeah i think the instinct is, lets make sure I hit it rather than where to hit it, which you don't feel as forward because if you miss it's not a goal, while keeper if you miss you look like a fool lol

My ban choice for goalie is always Juno. Estelle can only attack from where she is and where she'll blink to. But Juno can attack from where she is, where she jumped to, where she was, the top corner of the goal randomly because Luna was uselessly standing on top of you...

Literally everyone flames goalies but they don't realize how hard it is. I've seen so many strikers sit in goal and just sit there hitting the ball into the opponent. This along side with not even thinking about matchups. Of course against like juliet you never hit the ball towards her. But if your playing goalie to the side of the goal against estelle, you HAVE to hit the ball towards her or she'll get a really good angle with her ranged abilities to the other side of the goal. Things like this along side not dying to stupid luna/era shit makes it sooo tough. Other things that strikers dont do it keep track of cds/delaying strikes, two things that goalies should do. (Of course this is really hard to do). This is just the opinion of a lowly plat player however so keep that in mind

As a goalie + dubu main, just... knock the puck thing away from the enemies. If they're above, knock it down. Yeah, simple to say but hard to do. Also I'd recommend using the bamboo roll at the start of the round so when enemies have the strike, the bamboo will knock it back

i use stacks on stacks as dubu and if you don't die it starts going nuts by the time you're level 10. you get tons of stacked up haste and if you barely touch the core it flies away at the speed of light.

if you are goalie don't throw the ball back to enemies strikers. throw it in other direction. if enemy got free ball and tried to double hit score use your skill for counter. if enemy tried to stun lock you. well use skill to keep him out if ball is about to come. also don't just spam left click since there is a short cd on it. i am not goalie but i do play it from time to time and i still suck. lol.

your first mistake is that you bounce the ball directly at the opponent everytime the ball is in your field, you give it straight back to the enemy, bounce it away from them or to a teammate. one other thing, Dubu is built so that he has amazing offensive abilities, but only in short endurance When you get an openning, take it and use your abilities to the offensive, ride that until you have to retreat to defense. That's how I play at least.

I think once going up to higher ranks, Dubu can't defend as well as Atlas. As an Atlas main, that secondary skill is key to defending against Estelle double/triple returning the core in succession by simply casting a giant circular wall that returns an infinite amount of shots. Against X, Era, and Asher you can revive pretty effectively, and primary will tear through Juno's slimes. That said, goalie in this game is no joke if you actually want to protect against every shot. Edit: You also want to stand further away from the goal according to the same logic as IRL air hockey. Mathematically speaking by standing further away you can defend more angles with less movement. Also to prevent getting knocked into the goal by a random projectile from Luna.

idk i've seen some Dubus put in work high elo but I always felt Kai was better than both atlas and dubu because the range and multishot but we will see how the meta shakes up!
