I was about 6 as I found the videotape of this film on the shelf in the house of my Aunt, I put that into the VCR and I was watching it alone. I remember I did not understand a lot of things in this film with my young mind, and also there was scenes where I was not able to see what happens, e.g after the first deadly race, Loumis left the bad guys alone, and Packard sat into the car with Carry. He took the knife, and cuts his hand, forcing Carry to taste his blood. I rewatched the film later in almost every year period, maybe I was 14 as I noticed that. Imagine that Skunk drank almost every fluid which is lethal to during this movie, and because he is cool (at least for me for a young man as I was time) I could have do also the same. BUT because Packard had power over the all team, he was the boss, thus he was cooler than skunk, deep in me I took his advice, and never tried that kind of drink, because I did not wanted to became mushroom. Anyway of course that time was Carry my love idol, and I wanted to be as handsome as Charlie Sheen. I don't remember how I reacted on the scarry part, as the bad boys lacerate Jamie, and killed him. The quality of the copied VCR tape was not the best, so maybe I skipped the dark scenes. Because Jamie was reborn, the fact that he was killed, was not a big deal. There were other movies that time in the TV where an almost killed protagonist came back living. Some cats has also 9 lives. :)

As one of the songs from OST says, those were the days... Pure joy and entertainment from car races scenes, real races not cgi races, the adrenaline rush... This movie was ahead of its time. Story, acting, characters, especially Skank and Gutterboy. You can't repeat something like that, ever again. Even if someone try to shoot the remake, compare to original, I dare to say, it would be unwatchable. Try to imagine remake... Duration 1h 45min, of which, over 1h of green screen, lousy actors, different cars, different plot, lack of that '80s music, loss of that good vibe, come on... This movie is so good that I believe, if it was directed by some famous director, like Steven Spielberg or James Cameron, it could easily get some reward, maybe even an Oscar. I could spend days talking about how good this movie is, but i believe that you guys, and ladies, here are well aware of qualitiy that this movie brought to us, and that is all that matters. That is what counts...

It's so funny. Tough guys from the 80's seem like a bunch of goofy wankers these days. I remember as a kid thinking that group was so scary. The other funny thing is that a Honda Odyssey minivan has more horsepower and better handling than any car in the movie. Still fun to watch though, thanks for this!
