The Wreck of the Eldia: 40 Years Later

40 years ago, in 1984, a nearly 500-foot freighter named the Eldia ran aground at Nauset Beach in Orleans, Massachusetts. It instantly became a huge tourist attraction and would remain so for the roughly seven weeks the ship spent as a resident of Cape Cod.
The story of the Eldia is chronicled here in this segment from the In My Footsteps Podcast recorded in 2021(hence why I refer to the events happening 37 years ago).

I’ve never seen how incredible the coast guard maneuvered the helo on their rescue. Nose pushed straight up into the wind and dropped their basket onto the deck for the rescue. Incredible !

Years ago my dad would drive us down to the Texas coast to experience the big hurricanes. I thought it was what people did for fun. Even now that I'm old I'm all "Hey, let's go to Galveston!" Other people "But there's a bad hurricane coming!" Me"I know! If we leave now we can get there before the highway is shut down!"

That sounds like my stepfather who would pack us kids in the station wagon to venture out in whatever bad weather we had, my mother loved those days.
