In one of the "cracking contraptions" shorts, he's so lazy that he invents a TV that extends off the wall up to his easy chair _just_ so that he doesn't have to get up to change the channel, or expend any energy cleaning up his house to figure out where he lost the remote. in another, he invents a remote-controlled shopping cart to drive to a grocery store that's a stone's throw away from his home just so he doesn't have to get dressed and go shopping himself.
