Don't know if anyone's mentioned this, yet, but the reason you're not seeing much Scully/Mulder interaction is because Gillian Anderson is VERY pregnant and isn't very mobile. Plus they can't do many long shots without revealing her pregnancy. If they do, you'll see her wearing big trench coats or of the like to hide it. So most of what you'll see of her until after she's had her baby are close ups and shots of her sitting behind a desk to hide that she's pregnant.

I'm not sure if its directly mentioned but this episode was a reference to a carsenogenic pesticide Malathion that was used haphazardly. I think there is even footage of them spraying it on children at a swimming pool either way they thought it was alot safer than it really was.
