Love your video. It’s surprising to be just how watchable the pilot is given how bad some shows can be starting out. You can’t go wrong ranking space as the worst. I’ve always loved “Deep Throat” for some reason; it being a non mythology alien episode and the creepy vibe it has throughout. I love when Mulder discovers the pilot had his memory erased. It’s so chilling.

Yeah especially during this time it always felt like when shows started out they didn't know exactly what they wanted to do so early seasons can feel a little rough.

This was a great non-boring tier list. I mostly agree with your list, although I always had a soft spot for darkness falls. I remember watching that when it first came on and I was scared. I can't wait for season 2. I recently started a rewatch and all the episodes will be fresh on my mind.

Bravo! Like you, I'm not one to really pick my favorite. Just glad there was enough quality to keep me (and the series going) in the early goings. Looking back at these old season formats for network television, you can really see that squeezing in over 20 episodes it just too much. X-Files managed well though and I think they did alright over most of the future seasons too.

Yeah I think cutting it down to maybe even 15 they could tighten things up a bit more, but the show was really doing something other shows never really did at the time.

Great video...hilarious cut to Gremlins! My list is probably way different...I think Genderbender is more in the middle of the pack because it is elevated by the phenomenal direction. And I think the Pilot is also in the middle of the pack because I just find it a bit dull. But your top two are right in line with mine!

@@JBSpookyReview yeah nostalgia might be it because i started watching in Season 4 and it was only in the break before Season 5 that I saw the Pilot. By then I was so used to the polish and how crisp everything was so I didn't enjoy the Pilot as much as I probably would have originally.

Always liked Darkness Falls, very creative and spooky. Eve was also a very creative episode. A bit campy at times, but strong show overall. Fallen Angel was cool, Max Fenig was an excellent character, and the actor was great. Overall, Season 1 had about 12 great episodes, and about 12 brutal ones. I was such a huge fan of the show from day one that I initially chose to overlook how bad some of the episodes were at the time. I do remember hating the Space episode though.

I thought that the Jersey Devil episode was well written, I don't think that it was really supposed to be entirely about the actual Jersey Devil but more about introducing the sexuality to Mulder and Scully as characters (Scully thinking about children, going on a date, thinking about her life outside of work, Mulder kinda obsessing over the woman and the "natural/original" human form) if that makes sense? Anyways my favourite episode is Ice :)

Great list and definitely not boring. I would have put some episodes higher and some lower but not by much. I would have moved Pilot out of the top 10 and moved Shapes in the top 10 and probably movex Squeeze to Number One because I think if you wanted a season one episode to get anyone hookex on the X-Files that didn't fake them out I can think of no better episode than that. To me a season one top 10 is pretty much what are the strongest episodes that you could show to a new viewer and get them hooked. For that Shapes, Darkness Falls, and Ice are all top 10's because in several of those our heros are in real danger. Squeeze as I said is One and Tooms may be top 5 but is definitely top 10. The season finale is in there but probably lower down in the ten Beyond the Sea I like at two as I think you get tge best acting from everyone there but isn't the typical bottle story. I think Fallen Angel and E.B.E fill the bottom of the top 10 as they are the better ones of the season and good enough to crack it.

I have the same thoughts on the placing of these episodes as. However , Squeeze would be much higher on the list (it’s almost flawless). Fire would be last followed closely by Shape. Both are so cringey. I hate all the stereotypical tropes and bad acting. As a Brit, I hate the over the top accent and clothing of the MI6 agent. Someone should just drop her in the Thames. And Shape, well it’s just all kinds of offensive. And why is Scully standing outside the bathroom and trying to help, can’t she hearing the sounds as he is changing. My instinct would be to run. Looking forward to you ranking series 2
