Ah yes, the “White” and “Black” buttons. Truly, this was from an era where the Console Wars tried *anything* to stick out and be different/better. All jokes aside, I actually liked the Black and White buttons. Something about the color and lack of any features like “A” or “B” or “left” or “right”, you could do some interesting control schemes. I think my favorite trend would be games using the “White” button for flashlights usually.

They're pretty much just giving you 6 face buttons like the N64, but with the two joysticks of other current consoles at the time. Not a bad idea, it does seem like the controller is somewhat awkwardly shaped because of it tho

The whole reason they were there is because the og Xbox controller was influenced/based on SEGA's controllers, which had 6 buttons and 2 triggers (save for the dreamcast which only had 4). as a fighting game fan, it actually made the Duke great for stuff like DOA3 and MK. Just a shame the Dpad was so meh. I never understood why on the revised controller they repositioned them to the BOTTOM. That's the one thing about it that's actually more awkward than the Duke model imo.

Considering XBOX was a spiritual successor to Dreamcast and how Microsoft's consoles have always been sort of the modern equivalent to SEGA, it's always confused me that they didn't keep the layout the like the Duke controller had it, like the Mega Drive 6 button or the Saturn 3D control pad, ABC, XYZ, with the 5th and 6th buttons at the top, and just with the addition of a select button and right analog stick

Yeah, on the PlayStation 2 version, there’s a game breaking bug at the helicopter fight that instantly softlocks the game. The PlayStation 2 version is a buggy mess that is considered almost impossible to beat, although i have beaten it before when i was like 12. The Xbox version is the only one that is considered actually playable

I remember the office part at the beginning infinite people would spawn as you killed them. I would literally stay there for 30 minutes just to see how many I could kill without dying. I also remember killing the agents at the beginning on the roof top. Technically they dodge all your bullets and punches. The hacking minigame was the best part of this. Like, you had to work out passwords and discover different directories before Trinity hacked you and told you to keep looking. Then you could figure out cheats and stuff because you were literally altering the game code.
