That water in port is such a uniquely spectacular color. Between that, a great boat, and a sweet couple who appear deeply in love and eager to grow their bond while on the water... Great selection Tristan! 👍🏽

For me it was thumbs up for the couple and of course you too Captian! the last time I handled a boat was back in the eighties in Brighton! We never had bow thrusters and whilst we could bring the boat into a pontoon, it is for me! Absolutely fascinating to see it just how it is no done with bow thrusters! wow!! Thanks for letting a person watch how it is done today! Thank you to you and the couple that own the lovely boat too! 😉😊👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👌

Joy sticks save a lot of fiberglass repairs and permit a faster learning curve. While one should always learn how to maneuver without them, as systems do fail or glitch, they get folks on larger boats quicker. You are a natural instructor. The Skipper is a smart guy, you are always learning things. And wow - I love those Predators. I would suggest the couple purchase a set of two way headsets. They are called “marriage savers”

I saw Aquabanas off the beach in the Florida Panhandle recently, they are really brilliant in person. I saw electrosea strainers which automatically keep the strainers and seawater cooling water clean - very excellent ideas they have. I always check Marine Traffic when you do a vessel for the vessel and this one is there. They asked really good questions. Very nice Video !

Love this series. The Predator EVO range (55, 60) are some of the nicest sports cruisers on the production market. Really "macho" feel to them. In particular the 60 is just sublime. Full-beam master cabin, OK that's standard. Big VIP forward, OK so far so standard. Galley down, again that's standard. What's SPECIAL about the 60 Evo is it has a 3rd cabin AND a full mess (I don't use the word "dinette"). Three cabins for six people AND galley AND mess. AND it looks gorgeous. See the Virtual Yacht Broker tours of them, James, he did a great tour of some very high-spec visually pleasing spec boatshow models.

Hi Tristan, love your channel, AWOL was a great boat and found you clips of entering Med ports really interesting. This new direction has some really good tips for everyday boaties. Anchoring is an art and many factor have to be taken into account as you point out. Having sailed mono's for many years we now sail a cat and have experience the "cat walk' on many occasions. in this scenario all other vessels are laying fairly stationary side to the tide/wind in a wind over tide situation, whereas we continually swing in a large circle meaning boats that thought they had moored far enough away all of a sudden find themselves very close. Just something to consider as prior to owning a cat were were oblivious to this factor.

Great boat! Nice looking and handling. Great docking, in the absence of wind of course, but if it gets windy you have the thruster for insurance. With anchoring, depending on the part of the med you are in, noises do not necessarily mean you drag anchor. Oftentimes you anchor on sand, but the chain may run over patches of small stones, gravel or even pebbles. When the wind shifts, the chain resets and while running over those patches, usually full of seaweed too, it makes noises and vibrations similar to those of a dragging anchor... If I have space behind me and time, I go maximum zoom on the GPS, let the boat settle, and then as it oscillates, I would put a few MOB marks. It is the best way to ensure you are not really dragging anchor. I prefer doing that before repositioning, particularly at night, because when the wind picks up, you might no longer be able to spot the sand anymore. And with delta anchor, you do not want to be any seabed feature other than sand…

One remark: sailboats track extremely well to the current because of the keel and large rudders. at anchorages with some (even small) current, sailboats may point to a completely different direction than motorboats - my sailboat is sometimes pointing stern to the wind, motorboats don‘t do that. so, motorboats should anchor at a safe distance from sailboats (and vice versa).

@Michael Schneider. I fully agree with you. Someone like Tristan on board who teaches you the correct way to handle the boat gives you a lot of confidence and a good basis from which you can build your skills. If you start off the wrong way it will only get worse. Great job by Tristan.

Having the abiltiy to have such instructions and realizing you were not utilizing all systems as well as perhaps developing habits that weren't safe! Wireless bluetooth headsets for less stress in communications, marriage saving to be sure! It would be best to have the instructor return a month or so after to observe and only aid in cases of safety! Lovely vessel and couple!

I have learned so much, and I do not even own anything floatable. No, wait, if you include the 6' floatation device meant for the pool, then ok. You would laugh at me navigating my way around the pool using my hands as bow thrusters and my feet landing on the ledge of the pool perimeter to become stationary! Thank you.

This is quite different Tristan from SYC but nevertheless interesting. Learning through others adds content to your videos. One suggestion would be to try to slow down your camera movements especially in confined spaces as it causes a dizzying effect to the viewer as things flash by. Sometimes the audio pickup from the owners is hard to hear due to the mic position being too far away. Just a couple of small adjustments to otherwise great instructional videos for our entertainment. 🙏🇨🇦

No idea where 3x the depth came from. I worked as a sailing instructor driving little 3m RIBs around, and even for those we were taught 5x the depth to anchor.

Stupid question but how do you retrieve bow lines…..it’s always puzzled me when I’ve seen people drop them in lol…..
@davedavids96192 жыл бұрын
@Phatman, there is a smaller line connected to them, which runs to the shore. So when you do the 'Med mooring' you first throw the stern lines to the guys of the marina and they will then hand you the smaller line, which you have to walk forward and then you ultimately lift up the bow line (one by one).
@phatman35732 жыл бұрын
@@davedavids9619 thanks for that 👍

Another great video Tristan. Just wondered why the owners had not invested in a couple of Bluetooth linked headsets? Then they could communicate quietly even if the wind is blowing.
@collieri2 жыл бұрын
I think all new boat owners should be forced to own a 10m single engine cruiser with no thrusters and drive it about the solent for a summer. That's the in at the deep end version of yachtmastering. If you survive and your boat remains in one piece you can then drive a tanker.
@ravenmoon11652 жыл бұрын
How much does it cost to get this kind of hands on instruction? I am planning out getting my boat. I was thinking hire a captain for a year, but maybe that's not needed. I'm in the curious stage at this point.

buy some microphones to put on with the people you visit on the boats. That way the sound of people being further away will also be at the same level as your own.
