Heck, I have been out of radio since 1980. All my gear is so out of date. I have a Kenwood 430S. I watch you to determine how I am going to refit my station. I have missed all the digital revolution. Your reviews are such a blessing to help make me aware of what is out there. You said that this Yaesu is simple, but the one that you are considering is not. Simple is best for me at this point of my life. I purchased a G5RV and I hope to have it up soon and I will try to fire up my 450S and see if it still works. You have been inspirational to me and I so thank you. N4KBM.

You should try DMR through a repeater on a cbridge network. Noticable difference. But VW mode in Fusion does sound good too.

I am not new ham, been licensed 26 years now, my trouble is I have a very small income and can't afford to go buy Fusion radios anywhere near right now and I am the trustee of the local clubs license and they just bought themselves a new Fusion repeater. Leaving me with a dire need for a fusion rig. I have to be able to use the repeater to be control operator and monitor for proper use and operation.

I bought one a few months back, but since the closest fusion repeater is over 40 miles away, I don't get to utilize it much. Also, I haven't had time to look, study and see how the "fusion" side works. With little to no "Fusion" systems around here, no ambition to really study up on how it works. I love my FT60, so I thought I would upgrade. Battery life in the 70 isn't as good so I got an extra battery for it. Guess I need to study up on how to set up Fusion (Wires X) on this wonderful little radio and try to use it more.

I love the FT-70 overall. I just wish it had the GPS. I hate that it is the only one of my Yaesu Fusion radios that isn't able to report position in GM. For the price per performance though is really great. The DG-ID is very useful for us and all of my Fusion radios are set using it. I just wish that the 00 identifier was something you could exclude. Sometimes I want team communication, but not everyone being able to easily listen in.

I have one to. just got my tech. all I know is how to put in the battery and turn it on. that's it. why can't they make a ham radio as simple as a walkie talkie? you are wrong , it is not simple to use. you need to go to 4 years of training to use it. to much technology, to much crap to know.
