As a young owner (43 years old ) of a Yamaha Revstar RS502T i testify my 4 years experience with the guitar : 1) Gorgeous 2) very versatile instrument - (P90s makes the difference) 3) good quality components 4) excellent strings 5) joy to play.

Beautiful playing! You make a good point about the Revstar not being just another slavish copy of a legacy guitar. The amazing young UK guitarist Chris Buck plays a Revstar and makes the point it lets him be totally himself - not stepping in the shoes of an earlier star and tone.

Great video. I have that same guitar (standard, Merlot with p-90s) and loved it out of the box but thought the “boost” was pretty useless. Made the guitar boxy sounding, maybe all right for jazz playing. But I found that the boost setting run through a low gain overdrive with a bit of treble shaping (my case, morning glory) produced something unique and very usable for rhythm playing and arpeggios underneath a song.
@leonardgriffieblues58454 ай бұрын
Thanks so much. Yeah, the boost didn’t do a lot for me either, but then I’m. It a big fan of onboard boosts in general. Enjoy it!

There is a good video made where the wiring of this model was simplified and the sound improved quite a bit.
@leonardgriffieblues58456 ай бұрын
Interesting. Haven’t seen that one. Thanks for watching.
@ChidOki6 ай бұрын
Hard for me to agreed that it was “improved”, because it s so subjective. Just different. Love the sound of these P90’s, you might need to experiment with the pickup height and stagger a bit to fit your gear and amp but if you dial it in they sound fantastic. The rewiring video is awesome for people who want something different, I suspect they’re the kind of people who mod most of their guitars anyway.

Yamaha? Heck yes. "Hot Merlot"? Yes, please! I've been playing a silver metallic SG800S since 1983 (my avatar shot) and have owned 3 other Yamaha guitars (as well as 2 clarinets, a flute, and an alto sax) over the years including a Revstar RS420 that I recently sold. The SG800S is sticking around, though.

@leonardgriffieblues58452 ай бұрын
It’s been awhile now, but I think those are the strings it came with. I usually demo with the stock strings unless they clearly need to be changed, in which case I string them with my usual GHS Boomers, 10-46. Thr majority need new strings.
