ESPN better take down this trash clip before they get destroyed by the backlash. Shohei Ohtani was cleared by the DOJ, let alone named a "victim" in the case. Shohei could sue Wingo and Rhoden for defamation. I can't believe ESPN would allow such unfounded gossip material to go on air.

Like I've told everyone before, it's the sport media news dumb asses that's keeps speculating rumors and false narratives about Shohei Ohtani being the main culprit. These clowns couldn't do their job correctly as a journalist, so by throwing shades at Ohtani is the least credibility and validation they could get. Ippei Mizhuara started this mess, Shohei just ends up taking the heat with all these gossip nonsense going around the league. The man is clear by L.A. DA when they announced the scandal. Shohei Ohtani is currently suing his former broke @ss translator for online purchase of his MLB card memorabilia.

ESPN is so unwatchable now..Bill Rhoden, Trey Wingo..did you not read the report? 3 government agencies investigated and found ZERO evidence that Ohtani was ever involved in gambling. Ippei was just a clever liar and covered up his tracks from everyone. Those two are still following Tisha Thompson's narrative that Ohtani was somehow involved. ESPN is a joke now. Even their coverage of the NBA with Kendrick Perkins, Malika Andrews are not worth watching.

Did the reporter just say his interpreter was “the fall guy”? Ohtani was exonerated by the USDOJ and designated as the victim. ESPN, this is straight up slander.
@timg6125

I was going to call out the same thing. Totally agree. A "fall guy" is a scapegoat. Someone who is blamed for something that someone else did, or ordered, or was heavily involved in. The only thing Ohtani is guilty of is trusting Ippei more than he should have, and being a bit naive and relying on one person too much. He basically entrusted everything to Ippei, even including setting up his bank accounts and allowing him to have access (and effectively control) over them. I don't know if Ippei was a con man from the get-go, or if his gambling addiction turned him into one, but he took advantage of Shohei's trust.

I just can’t believe how stupid they are… they better read the 37 pages of FEDs report before they make themselves look stupid. FEDs already cleared him as a 100% VICTIM. Ohtani had zero involvement and zero knowledge about Ippei’s gambling problems and also was totally not aware of being ripped off. Just read the report before you say something. Everything you want to know is written in there.

They can't read or comprehend. They are jealous of his success and how he was found innocent but thats not good enough for them. They gotta be sleazy snakes and denigrate his image so they can get paid talking about him. Fact checking is not in the best interests of good reporting anymore, controversy and conjecture is, unfortunately. But most likely, its just jealousy because this man is the talk of the baseball world. 😂

They just don't understand enough of him. He is the guy that spends like what was it, $200 a month in japan cus he gave all his money to his mother to manage. He has no interest in money at all and has never managed it. to be fair, it seems like they are pointing at the people around him and not himself that could not have not known. and if they clarify, this could steer the conversation that way, instead of this fall guy for shohei nonsense.

It was more like $600-$650/mo in today’s exchange rate…but still😂 He saved up most of that even as he lived in the team dorm so he didn’t have to pay any extra for food or living expenses. The only way he awarded himself after a good day was to stop at Seven Eleven and buy his favorite chocolate crepe which is about a buck or two. I “disliked” this video, not because of Ohtani, who I have great respect for as the (IMO) quite obvious GOAT of baseball, but because of the two absolute clowns on the ends of the panel. This was slander, plain and simple, not to mention completely baseless and actually totally disproven slander to boot. I’m well aware that the human appetite for ugliness runs deep, but why anyone would feel the need to bring up that terrible situation other than to commend Shohei for not letting it distract him from his responsibilities to his team and his own personal pursuit of excellence is beyond me. ESPN should remove this video and issue a public apology, and if I were Shohei I would not speak another word to any ESPN reporter or personnel until they did so. He seems too good natured and focused on his task to take such a measure (and I understand that the odds of him even being aware of this are slim), but it would be absolutely warranted in my opinion. Do better ESPN; Ohtani’s story is fascinating enough without having to resort to baseless accusations and outright lies.

*Ohtani's first year with the Dodgers while recovering from a tommy surgery:* - Set the franchise record for most home runs in a single season with 54 home runs - Achieved a 9.2 Offensive bWAR, the highest in Dodgers' history, surpassing Mike Piazza’s 9.0 mark in 1997 - Holds the franchise record for most RBIs in a single game with 10 RBIs (in the game he went 6-for-6 with 3 home runs, 5 XBH and 2 stolen bases) - Most XBH by a LA Dodger (99) - Achieved an RBI in 10 consecutive games, surpassing Roy Campanella's record of 9 RBIs in 1955 - 411 total bases, setting a LA Dodgers record, surpassing Adrián Beltré’s 376 total bases in 2004 - Hit the most home runs in a single season at Dodgers' home games with 28 home runs - Achieved a 190 OPS+, the highest in a qualified season in Dodgers history, surpassing Mike Piazza’s 185 OPS+ in 1997 - Set a Dodgers record with 134 runs scored, leading the majors in this category - Posted a .646 slugging percentage, leading the NL and setting a new Dodgers record, surpassing Gary Sheffield’s .643 mark in 2000 - Led the Dodgers in all offensive categories in a single season *Postseason performance:* Heroically saved the Dodgers from getting swept by the Padres with his massive clutch 3-run homer in the NLDS, having an outstanding NLCS performance with a 1.184 OPS, .364 AVG, .818 with RISP, leading with 9 runs, reaching the bases 17 TIMES, and of course, he massively contributed to Game 1 of the World Series with his series-changing clutch double in the 8th inning that led to Freddie's grand slam, dealing a blow to the Yankees' morale. But unfortunately, Ohtani's postseason run ended in Game 2 when his shoulder was dislocated, requiring surgery after the series. But his presence alone in the lineup messed with the Yanks' pitching game. Ohtani and the Dodgers are destined for GREATNESS!!!

The concentrated focus and maniacal drive that it takes to do the required workload day in and day out. No, he is the greatest because his whole life from a young age was geared toward optimising his baseball prowess and abilities. SMH.... these guys sound like straight-up salty haters. 1:01 Oh, look another product of siblings blissfully ignoring the FBI’s report and diving headfirst into the fantasy where "Ohtani is a secret gambler and his interpreter is just taking the fall." Because of course, in this alternate reality, it makes total sense that the interpreter would silently accept his fate without a whisper of protest, while Ohtani continues to bask in wealth and luxury. Naturally, anyone who's been "betrayed" would willingly keep quiet, stroll into prison without raising a single objection, and not even attempt to protest their innocence. Absolutely flawless logic there!

2:01 "But his agent didn't know either"-it was a banking problem in the first place. There is irresponsibility that the bank's security is not responding or functioning at all. I want you to think about what your customers are depositing money for. The victim was Otani, but Mizuhara, the interpreter, stole it from the bank. I didn't steal it directly from Ohtani's wallet. The bank was unable to determine whether access came from Otani himself or from someone else with malicious intent, and could not protect it as a system. I'm sure the amount of damage caused by Ohtani was covered by the bank's insurance.

These ordinary people can't comprehend it. To achieve greatness at the level of history, besides extraordinary talent, how many things does one have to sacrifice in exchange? Shohei Ohtani can be said to have sacrificed every aspect of his life that you can imagine in order to achieve his success in baseball today. So, even if you find it unbelievable and wonder how someone could be so unaware of their financial flow, those facts are indeed true.

I am a Japanese person living in Japan, and xenophobes in our country are actively spreading claims on baseball fan sites and social media that Ohtani is being unfairly criticized due to anti-Asian discrimination that still exists in the United States. I am well aware of how extremely biased their beliefs are, and every time I come across their hateful remarks, it pains me deeply. That’s why I’ve decided to counter them by saying, “Discriminatory people exist everywhere-yes, even here(Japan).” ESPN, please do not treat discriminatory remarks as if they were a "counterargument" to anything. Discrimination cannot serve as a rebuttal, criticism, or alternative. Doing so only enables others with discriminatory views to exploit it, further fueling division. Do not use discriminatory statements as a means to draw attention.
