Watching you bring in the loose hay made me smile. When I was a child & teen, my father built tall sides for our pick-up truck & we would gather & load hay just the way you do. Everyone else had specific equipment to bale their hay, but we only had a few acres of hay & my dad preferred it loose. I learned to drive the manual transmission truck when I was 12 years old so my dad didn't have to keep getting in & out of the truck to move it forward. If my father was alive, he would be 98 years old. His grandparents came to Minnesota, USA from Sweden in the late 1800s, so he learned many of the old ways & spoke Swedish when he was with older relatives at reunions & funerals. I enjoy all of your videos, but this one brought back a happy memory. Thank you.

I grew up with my grandparents on a farm and we would cut the grass ourselves, we would turn it and gather it and transported to the barn, all done by manual work, we would literally lift the hay stacks and carry them by hand with these special poles that my grandfather had made. It was hard and it took all summer to do 2ha of land, but I loved it, it was the best time of my life.

That 'most GORGEOUS' little face of; Ivar at the end of the vid said it ALL...'I am LOVED and well CARED for...NOTHING else is as important.' As Matthias said; (paraphrased) 'Is it IMPORTANT that each farmer have 'their OWN' tractor?' As long as you make yourself EQUALLY important to the one from whom you are borrowing...then the 'barter is even' and there is no 'need'. Community 'works' on this premise. Yes, this year is an ongoing 'unpredictable' gamble as far as weather is concerned...but we are all in the same soup...no need to complain about it (not that you are)...rather, it makes us more grateful for the times when weather does comply with our desires or needs. Nothing can be taken for granted any longer...times have changed. Kevin was indeed a great help to you Matthias, I wish he lived closer to you. The 'best line' in this vid was from Kova to her son Ivar, and said with heartfelt love..."I am so proud.' And well you should be! Thank-you most kindly for sharing your lovely homestead with us. Health and God's continued abundant blessings upon you n' yours!

Thank you enormously for making these videos. They bring me back to my rural childhood and help me unwind from all my modern, adult, urban and work stresses, especially now that I'm indoors all the time in lockdown. Watching the tanning video relieved a bad headache without medication! I used to use a scythe when I was about 7 years old, cutting the long grass under our apple trees for hay. I loved forking the hay. I miss using those tools and working outside very much. Sincerest good wishes to you all!

Your hay gathering reminded me of when my family would come together to gather hay from the fields. Much was done by hand then, with much throwing of hay by pitchforks and some was stored as loose hay and then later it was baled. It is hard work. But the comradarie is very nice with others. Ivar has grown so much. He is interactive now with others. Thanks for sharing your lives. :-)
