This is a great episode. Although he’s a good samurai, Asaemon thinks he’s too low to associate with Yoshimune because he’s a ronin. Yoshimune doesn’t care about rank or class, which you can see because many of his closest confidants are commoners.

Asaemon Yamada complained about the Shogun stingy to Shinnosuke Tokuda. Shogun Yoshimune would have been lenient to halve the salary of Asaemon Yamada for this offense. Lucky for Asaemon Yamada, the Shogun is good natured and took no offense.

He was a well known singer back then when these were being made, so he also had other commitments due to that at the same time - just as he did a lot of the songs in the series, too . . .
