Umm, I recorded the cowbell and hand claps, my friend Ray recorded the Shakers and hand claps and my other friend Rene played the congas with a bassist who also played guitar riffs. It was all live music recored in October of 1979 at Delta Studios on in Ave in NYC. Grand Master wasn't there, ask Melle Mel if you don't believe me. By the way Terry Lewis who produced the recording disappeared with the profits and we had signed papers with him.

Can you tell us more about the recording of this song? How did the song come about? And Terry Lewis - is this the same person from Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis fame?
@atticusfinch70010 жыл бұрын
I see that it isn't that Terry Lewis. But still, would be cool hear about this record and your involvement in it.

Langston Collin I was playing drums in St Mary's park on a Sunday and Terry Lewis approached us about doing studio time. We were a little weary of him so we called delta Studio and found that he had booked studio time so we went down and recorded two days. Aside from the furious five there was another rapper named A.J. and Scorpio. They didn't used A.J. and Scorpio because A.J. was making a scene. P.S.: we made papers with Terry Lewis and he took off with the money.

This is a more “raw” version of “Super Rappin” The beat is different but most of the rhymes are the same taken from routines and rhymes they used to spin in the clubs of the NYC 70s when rap was a underground NYC art form. Only real difference between this version and the later version is Rahiem’s verse

I don't know Terry lewis probably stole it too with Brasilia (Brass) Records. We recorded the second day. We had nothing to do with the production. They brought a lot of Bronx talent that day. that second day is when they put down "We rap More Mellow" with the musicians (Latin Percussion, Bass, Guitar some keyboards and hand claps. I remember talking with AJ and his partner. i could be wrong but i think he told us his name was scorpio.

It's kind of weird to think that this song came out BEFORE my father made a ROUND mixtape of the music he liked on a reel-to-reel recorder and one of the songs on one of the tapes was Blondie's "Rapture". And also today I learned that Christopher Cross'es album from 1979 was recorded on a digital recorder. So--You think it's new? Think again!

So this funky joint must have come out before Rappers delight?... Only reason being that it's not on the Sugar Hill label... I know its shaving things 'right down to the bone' of Hip Hop history ...but.. If it comes down to days and dates within weeks in 79 we all would love to know... Did this record come out first or after or evening during.. Imagine if (hype-prophetically speaking) Sugar Hill Gang battling (for their lives) against The Furious Five .. Live on stage... Either way SugarHillGang would have got 'Furiously-Crushed' twice! (they should have rapped about pizzas instead) PEACZzzzEr P P PEACE
