It doesn't matter what the scottish people desire for their own future Johnson will never allow a referendum That man knows as much about democracy and freedom as a pig knows about Sunday Perhaps when his regime is finished, but I figure that will be a long time in coming

After the first vote, Westminster might as well have taken out a full page in the Sunday Times and printed in huge letters “YOU LOST, BACK IN YOUR HOLE, BITCH.” Bad move. Next time around no one will believe the near groveling promises and platitudes.

Freedom and independence from the UK and the European Union!
@ernestbywater4114 жыл бұрын
I'm an Australian descended from Scots, Welsh, Irish, and British with the most recent lot having come from northern Yorkshire. However, I elect to not vote, because, at this time, I don't know enough to make a truly informed decision on how Scotland and the Scots will be affected by independence from the UK - especially on the economic side. I do know that a lot of the economy of Scotland is tied up with the UK. I do know that any country that's a member of the EU will never have any true independence as they will always be under the thumb of the EU bureaucrats as the government of the EU is done by the non-elected officials with no accounting to the EU parliament. Thus an independent Scotland as part of the EU would just be changing one set of non Scots masters for another. I suspect an Independent Scotland would be welcomed by many Scots who want Home Rule, but I strongly suspect Scotland's future lies with a very close economic and culture alignment with the UK. The one thing you can be sure of about being in the EU is they want a 'one size fits all' economy, trade, and cultural fit - thus all of what makes Scotland unique will be eroded as fast as possible to make an EU Scotland fit the EU agenda and culture.
@ernestbywater4114 жыл бұрын
@TheFastAndThe Dead Actually, I didn't look at the British press on the issue at all, I had a look at the documentation the EU operates under as that's very revealing. However, even if the EU Parliament had any control over the EU Bureaucrats the end result of being in the EU will still be foreign rule for Scotland as being in the EU means Scotland would have to follow all of the EU laws and rulings on how to live and do business. So being in the EU still means foreign control and no REAL independence. However, if Scotland does gain independence and then stays out of the EU to ensure TRUE HOME RULE the Scottish Parliament can then negotiate treaties and trade agreements with the EU and the UK as a trading partner instead of as a subordinate economic zone of either. A Scotland independent of the UK and the EU could also negotiate trade with other countries like Australia and the USA if they wish to. typo edit.

You are so wrong, Scotland in the UK is under control of the UK GOVERNMENT with no say in laws passed which affect the uk as a whole because Scots are outnumbered by almost 10 to 1 in Westminster. As a whole scotland is only 8% of the population of the UK so what ever England want Scotland again outnumbered. Look at brexit vote 63% of scots voted to remain, but because the uk as a whole wanted to leave, well you know. As part of the EU we have equal say, we can veto laws, the EU CANNOT say Scotland MUST take these laws. As for trade, good luck England on its own without scotlands collateral to bolster its finances
@ernestbywater4114 жыл бұрын
@@tkdscot1 As a member of the EU you are required to accept the EU laws and have the EU courts decide on issues. Thus an EU membership Scotland would be just as much under foreign control as it is in the UK. As I said before, Scotland would be better as an independent nation NOT connected with the EU except as a trading partner in the same way as Scotland would be with the USA and Australia. Given the option of a Scotland under the UK or under the EU, they'd be better under the UK and not the EU.
@tkdscot14 жыл бұрын
@@ernestbywater411 like i said, the EU has NO say over Scots law whatsoever. Even wm don't. EU courts exist to protect EU citizens not to overrule individual members laws. As for Scotland being better off in the UK, better for who? Certainly not Scotland
@tkdscot14 жыл бұрын
I think you need to change your sources of information. The EU is an elected body, or did the fact we had European elections last year miss you? EVERY member has an equal amount of MEPs who all have a right to veto any law which doesn't work for them and to make it even fairer, every member state has rhe right to sit as head of the EU Council. The EU has NO say in laws of individual members states but share a common law which protects EVERY eu citizen. I have not idea where you aquire your information but I seriously suggest you change it
