This is dope! I love cube and have been trying to get Joe and others to cube for a long time, so I’m hyped at how cool this project is. I’ve designed lots of cube in paper and digitally in the past. I love the design of this one. Drafting extra deck monsters in a separate pack in the middle of the draft (if I understand Patreon correctly) is such a smart way to integrate them, and I think using a variable number of copies to control the size and “rarity” of archetypes is super smart, especially for yugioh, where effects are generally less replacable than in magic. It’d be super sick to draft this one day

Will you eventually drop the full list of this Edison cube? I have a cube myself but in mine all monsters are all types. (Ex: lonefire blossom Eff to bring obelisk. Go to battle atk and during damage step drop limiter removal). It’s fun but would like to build an Edison cube and yours looks really fun

First off, love your video! I have been building my own cubes for a while now and it is sooo rewarding and I love to see others doing the same! But i do have 1 question, A card like Underworld Fighter Balmung came out in Judgment of the Light a Zexal Era set, is it in just because its a Synchro? Just wondering. Thanks anyways for the video!

Like a lot of cards in this cube, Balmung is in there to help create a deck building and gameplay environment that has the flexibility, mechanics, and power level of Edison while encouraging players to build decks that never existed before. Junk Synchron and Fishborg Blaster, for example, are fantastic at making Lv 4 synchros, so we added Balmung as a build around for those cards. Even though it's from outside Edison's card pool, it helps bring the power level up to Edison's, and make some iconic Edison cards shine.

@@TheRJB0 I know the pain, I had to jump through hoops to rationalize having FK#1 in my DM+GX cube, but I really wanted the aesthetic consistency of having every attribute of the MRL recruiters. If you add in Hand of Nephthys (keep both Sacred Phoenixes?), Twin-Headed Behemoth, and maybe Shield Wing for the 5Ds-iness, it's got a bit more of a case. Turbo Synchron is kinda funny. Lady Ninja Yae is a ninja card that's a FK#1 target and can turn "I will attack the bug" into "oh wait I might lose next turn", also kinda funny. Your targets in the cube now are Quickdraw, Debris, Bestiari, Spore, so you probably only need a couple more (maybe keep Psi-Blocker?)

31:46 I suggest torque tune gear for the union. Lvl 1 tuner. Light machine. Union. Makes whatever its equipped a tuner. Not too busted. And you can summon it with shining angel. Search with neutron, etc.

SO SICK!! I loved this video! I am making a no tribute cube with cards like fiendish engine omega, Diablos, king of the abyss, super-ancient dinobeast, pot of the forbidden, and other bosses that would never see play otherwise (very much like junior journey). Plus this cube is probably the only time ever UFOroid has ever been playable. Thank you for the inspiration and the the in depth explanation of your choices in this cube! It has helped me a lot!

Hey RJ, thanks for sharing your list! Looking forward to seeing some more cube content in the future, thanks for highlighting this frankly underrepresented side of Yu-Gi-Oh. Aliens are cool, and having another light focused deck that's not machines or lightsworns is something I should look into. I LOVE the addition of Hanzo into Nephthys, blackwings or a dragon. So cool! I'm already running armed, crimson, Sasuke, and strike ninjas in my cube so that's a great inclusion I shall be using. I will say it may be worth putting in a few more silly meme cards like exchange, or one day of peace, or maybe putting in a REALLY off the wall style of deck like PACMAN/Flip control/diamond dude/convulsion of nature control (with all those trunades resetting your spells maybe?). My water strat is legendary ocean and 5/7 star beaters as well as Umi payoffs. 5 HYDROGEDDONS/VOLC SHELLS IS SICK! But yeah, thanks for the video 😁

I know I'm late to the party, but after watching the plant section I couldn't not recommend adding the rest of the plant pricesses. Chirubimé, Mariña and Talaya alongside Tytannial are great cards to summon out of lonfire and myracle fertilizer, and if you build around them you can actually get a pretty cool plant control strategy going on.

Have you considered adding a few normals and unexpected dai? Considering most arquetypes have a normal monster. The extra body for synchros, tribute fodder, fusions. Suggesting gene warped warwolf first. As it was mentioned in video, but alien shocktropper, gb andal, e hero sparkman for the meme, x-saber anu piranha, genex controller as a lv3 dark tuner. There's certainly a lot that it enables.

@@TheRJB0 I did the same thing in my massive cube. Along with a few copies each of the 2000 ATK normal monsters, Magicalibra and Hallohallo are perfect targets for Unexpected Dai to facilitate Synchro Summoning as well as potential pendulum summoning if you draft the scales

First off, great video, excited to see more cube content. I know you said you're not a huge fan of Gladiator Beasts, but if you decide to keep them in moving forward, I have some suggestions from their post 5D’s support. -Gladiator Beast Noxious protects you from a direct attack, sets up the graveyard for a Darius play, and is able to tag out immediately afterwards. He can also be used in a non-GB deck as a worse Battle Fader that leaves a Level 5 body on the board. -Gladiator Beast Sagittarii is a good payoff if you’re leaning heavily into the GB strat, essentially being an in-archetype Allure of Darkness in the form of a monster. -Gladiator Naumachia is a very bad piece of support they received in the VRAINS era, but I still wanted to mention it. It allows the deck to beat over monsters with high attack without going into a fusion, and if you’re desperate for a tag out, you can pop it yourself to make your Glads indestructible by battle this turn. It does require some weird set ups or is straight up just a -1, so I’m not sure if it’s worth it. On the other hand though, turning Hoplomus into a 3100 attack beater sounds hilarious.

i think you should consider "the phantom knights of lost vambrace" as a non-edison card to add to the cube. it's a battle trick, level manipulation to disrupt OR assist with synchro plays, a free body to use for tribute fodder, is essentially a battle fader in the case of a direct attack, and can even be reused with cards like mist valley falcon and genex ally birdman. the multitude of different ways you can use this card has very edison energy to it, but could potentially prove to be too strong at any more than 2. other interesting non-edison cards are: - transmission gear: mostly a meme, but has geniune benefits over dimensional prison - condemned witch: being able to search any forbidden quick play and tutor out a level 4 fairy to respond to your opponent's plays is excellent utility. the amount of interaction this one card provides is peak edison. - juragedo: a personal favorite card of mine. the 1000 LP gain actually matters in slower formats like limited, and can be reused with the effects of cards like mist valley falcon if you're desperate. the ability to special summon itself during the battle phase to immediately start putting on offense pressure combined with the honest-esque ATK boost it can grant to other monsters makes it extremely versatile, but also potentially too powerful. - seleglare the luminous lunar dragon: another monarch-esque monster, but the ability to temporarily steal monsters during either player's turn and return itself to the hand for future use brings it to a whole new level. the lower stat line it's given from being normal summoned still isn't even that bad, given that it can still run over all of the recruiters. - speedroid tri-eyed dice: it's basically necro gardna 2. it can be retrieved off of flying kamakiri, sent to the GY as cost for machina fortress, and be used as a tuner for level 7 synchro plays. - lullaby of obedience: it's very funny

How well has this drafted? My biggest concern about committing to making this cube is that it might be too difficult for my friends who didn't play in the edison/5Ds era. I LOVE this golden age of YGO and I want to share how awesome this time of YGO was to my friends who only know classic DM. Do you think this cube is flexible enough to be played more "generic" or is archetype knowledge important here?

This is a really cool idea, but I'm a monster and as soon as you mentioned the one-Malicious thing, I decided that a cube that is entirely tricks to trip up the players would be Very Funny (though I feel like it would only get used once per player)

I think an interesting thing to do using this philosophy would be to make like, What If lists for certain eras. Like, do the end of GX (taking the banlist of the time into account of course) and then just... not putting in DAD and see what comes out of it.

In the event that you don't have enough players to draft, how might you do Sealed with this Cube? i.e. Give each player a randomized 60 cards with which to build a deck with. Curious what number you might do, or if you think a YGO Cube doesn't work without the drafting element.

This is INCREDIBLE! Have you considered trying out 'rarities' i.e. several separated pools of cards that have different numbers in the pack (e.g. each pack gets 2 random cards from the rares, 3 random cards from the uncommons, and 8 random cards from the commons, as well as 1 super)? It might help control ratios well on top of modified numbers of each card, and let you make sure 'build around' cards appear at the proper frequency while 'glue' cards are freely available in every pack.

It would also let you give extra deck monsters an allocated slot in each pack and create a push-pull tension: you can draft fewer of them or intentionally go into a non-extra deck, to maximize the card quality of your main deck, OR you can sacrifice both card quality and card choices for the main deck to increase the toolbox and ceiling capabilities of your extra. IMO one or two extra deck slots in each pack is a good idea - MTG draft formats have done similar things with snow lands, dual lands etc and it leads to interesting drafting and gameplay (i.e. the suggestion has been vetted by the best haha)

Playing devil's advocate here: If there are multiple copies(2-3) of something like Caius monarch, would that actually occur that frequently? You say it would be too huge of an advantage if someone drafted 2 copies of it, but my curiosity leads me to believe this wouldn't happen THAT often considering these cards are top prio to pick up. If 2 are in the draft cycle, how likely is it that 1 player gets both? I think it would be highly unlikely, and if it does happen it's just super lucky.. Therefore if it ever does happen, it might be kinda cool where someone can draft an explosive deck for that one draft and deserves a win. That possibility is also exciting to anyone, that they could potentially get a really nutty draft, creating perhaps a more fun draft. What do you think?

As a magic player at one point I tried making a yugioh cube. It didn't really work because people couldn't get their engines going. Whoever got the best start won, they summoned a big monster and just beast stick the other player.

@@MiskoM4 Oh I have absolutely no clue about M/S/T ratios. I'd literally have to watch this video back and count them. As for players, it's built to support up to 8 players taking 75 cards with a little extra room for variety.

Did you run into people trying to draft the same deck? Like 2 people trying to draft lightsworns and just... both getting half a deck?

That wasn't a problem for our draft, but I could see it being a problem. We as players seemed to all be in agreement that roughly the way to go with drafting was to start general and get more specific over time, taking cards that were necessary for the strat first, and then getting more focused. There were a couple things I'd start to make but someone got most of it so I stopped, but we didn't have any decks get split in half.

I loved the cube but personally I would want the cube to be entirely singleton( 1 copy of each card) for two reasons, 1it makes the draft more easily readable as each card in it it unique and if you pass a card you know you won't get another copy of it, and 2. it gives cubes the ability to play more sub-optimal cards that never saw their case in the sun because of similar, but better cards and letting people pop off with the,

That's valid. I don't like singleton for Yugioh because it makes decks that don't have the flow of Yugioh. It's harder to build a cohesive game plan when your cards are all one ofs and the games can feel clunky. I think there's room for cards that didn't see meta play even in a non-singleton cube as long as you vary the numbers to favor combo access over payoffs.
