Seeing Zoya cry was heartbreaking but is a real feeling that many people have - especially children of immigrants. I also went to a private college under my parent's dime and the need/feel to work 200% to get that 100% out of it is exhausting. It fills you with guilt. I empathize with you so much because I was there. Things will work out. Your parents love you (and want your bank account details lol) and will always support you. Also, great job to Zarna for comforting her. I know many immigrant parents who would brush off their kids saying "oh we work hard for you" or "don't worry"... but seeing your mom rub your leg and ask for a tissue healed something in me.

Zoya I have never felt more seen. I cannot tell you enough. The 10 minutes that you spoke, are the most relatable 10 minutes I have experienced in my entire life of watching KZbin. Thank you so much for being so brave and sharing exactly how you feel. Thank you. And girl, I know exactly how you feel ( literally in the exact same situation ) and all I can say is you will figure it out. You will.

Aw this was probably one of my favourite episodes! Real heartwarming moments with Zoya getting emotional (you got this smarty pants), Zarna comforting her so lovingly and Brij getting little Veer into free football classes! 🥰 Also loved Zarnas' perspective that there is no headache free way of making money but once you make peace with that, you can make the most of it 😇

Loved the episode Gave lot of reality check The credit card purchases ( doesn’t feel like you are spending at that time) spending on stupid stuff-$30 here, $ 50 there( they add up fast!) throws my finances off. A hug for Zoya.. as a immigrant parent with restricted finances, our kids do have to work hard I feel ( they don’t have grandparents or ancestral incomes/ gifts, to help them along the way). But… in the end.. it all does work out. My very best to the Gargs This was one of the best episode 👏🏻👌💕🙌

Zarna you are exactly right. My own even when he could gave gone to these high prestige schools and I being an immigrant parent wanted him to make a decision not entirely based on affordability. But, he stuck to his decision and chose to go to public school best program and it’s so liberating for so the kid and us parents too. You podcasts are so relatable and so thought provoking. I wish every family can have these discussions.

My big money hack is to not be a first gen immigrant. People don’t realize the years of compounding we have missed only because when we started making money, we had no idea what a 401k is. I learnt about an IRA at 35. That’s crazy amount of time lost!

Any thoughts on reverse immigrating kids back to India for undergrad (any science) and then target ivy’s for postgrad? This should solve a lot of financial concerns and help the kids to experience and learn “jugad” first hand.

My daughter went to Duke for a year and transferred to Texas A&M . My son decided to go to NYU Abu Dhabi campus. Kids with US citizenship should consider to evaluate study options outside US than taking on crazy local student loans.
@lailarafiq1235 ай бұрын
but the networth one gets studying in the US universities cannot be negotiable. 1)Some intangible benefits which are beneficial in the long run such as alumni networks cannot be calculated equally to $$ spent as tuition. . 2) We make friends in college who become life long friends - these are assets that cannot be equated in terms of $$.. These are social investments ( for lack of a better word) 3) Health is more important that money . For eg in Abu Dabhi, every body was forced to take a covid vaccination. Would we want such enforcement on our children if such an event happens in the future and they study in the Abu dabi campus ?- that is a risk I am not willing to take. As zarna says - some state schools such as UC Berkley,, Rutgers , Arkansas state are great state schools. When my husband lost the job in the 2007 lay offs - he got multiple offers at the alumni network. He was also a student at that time and he gave his resume to his prof - who got him an interview. Just my 2 cents. Thanks

I'm kind of lost on the conversation about rich people. My mother was a house keeper in the seventies for extremely wealthy people. They allowed her to take us with her in the summer when school was out. These people were awesome towards us. They treated us like family. While my mom cleaned the one lady took us shopping with her children and bought us the most beautiful pj's! I'll never forget it. Perhaps it's different in the USA. I live in Canada.

1. I see a lack of knowledge about the public universities...have any of you ever looked into public universities nowadays? Their acceptance rate, reputation and prices are similar to private universities, including Ivy's. (univ of Michigan, UVA). The truth is higher education is becoming less accessible for US citizens. 2. Looks to me that Zoya is putting unnecessary pressure on herself, she's not allowing herself to relax, have a break, have a little bit of college life and then bends under pressure. This is a recipe for mental health disaster who cannot be fixed with all the money in the world. Life is not just about career and money...balance is the key.

it's just a joke, chill! And as a mother who was responsible for their survival from when they were born to actually guiding them time to survive, it is a habit that gets formed that takes time to get over. So cut the mom some slack. Also, the kids already have their own accounts with passwords not shared, so obviously she is a chill mother, else this stage would never come (no matter what she wants the future to be, which was again, a joke!)
@adi_malhotra025 ай бұрын
@@gyhuj1235 I want to agree with what you're saying about it being a joke. But it's hard to accept that because she's said it so many times with a straight face (could still be a joke, I know?) but then Shalabh asks her if she's kidding and she says no (about something else that could also be a joke). Point is, when the passwords issue is repeated so many times, it gives an impression that she obviously means it.

OMG. Stanford college senior is confused by the concept of the credit card. God Help US All. It`s not that complicated. You open a credit card, make purchases with it and put it on autopay so you can make payments on time every month. That`s the way to start building healthy credit in this great nation of ours. If you stop using your credit card, then your monthly balance would be zero.
