There are hundreds of F-4's at the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico. The Air Force at Tyndall converted them to drones and used them for missile target practice, shooting them down over the Air Force Gulf Range.

I worked with a guy who was a retired full bird colonel from the US Air Force. He pretty much flew all the century fighters including the F4, I once asked him, what was the best physical sensation you ever had in an aircraft, he replied, 400kts on the deck in the F4 always felt pretty good. Kudos to the Japanese for keeping these grand birds flying.

Although this plane's get very high flight speed and climbing rate, it lacks more maneuverability. Remember that the Phantom were conceived as interceptor fighters, rather than multirole fighters like the F-15 Eagle.
@billgund4532
@billgund4532 5 жыл бұрын
@@fightingfalcon1986 Excellent point. The Phantom was conceived for the Navy as a fleet defense A/C. High speed, crazy rate of climb, decent range, great fire control radar and stand off capabilities. It was the forerunner of the F-14 & F-15. The fact that it performed "air to mud" as well as it did is a testament to its' versatility.

I so respect the Japanese military for cherishing the Phantom and keeping it alive...I wonder with all the other pressing needs in the world, such as poverty, why such an awesome weapon was not enough for nations to have, maintain and keep the peace with as the Japanese have instead of spending trillions in the development of new weapons platforms.

I always come back to appreciate this video, and I gotta say, I much prefer this generic track from the youtube library than the one from Zimmer. It makes things even more magical.

The F-4 Phantom is my favorite military aircraft. Thank you for this video.

I guess like your first love, the F-4 will always be my favorite fighter jet. They were just starting to take them out of service when I was in the Army in the early 80's. I love the F-14's, 15's, 16's and 18's, but the Phantom is just a bad looking plane. It definitely instills fear and respect. Looks like a flying shark....

simply beautiful, well done. I started building models at age 10. Now at 72, the phantom is still my favorite. The two tone blue color scheme is killer.

The F4 was my first model kit more than 45years ago, even my mom liked the thing. Even today when i see a box with one, i stop and peek few moments at it. Now and then I come back to see this pod cast. I makes me time travel.
