I have an early Fox film from 1924 or 25 that used vitaphone records. It was a demonstration of the ability of films to feature actual voice recordings. I'll have to search for it in my 1920s film folder. It contains hundreds of silent films, including my favourite yet tragic tragic Max Linder. Chaplin referred to him as the best comedian around. Unfortunately, WW1 affected him terribly, culminating in a murder-suicide of his new bride in a Paris hotel. A sad end to a brilliant man. The war greatly impacted his mental health, and he was never the same again. He's largely forgotten today. Chaplin admired him and greatly influenced his comedic style.

OMG hedonism has nothing to do with economics. The totally unregulated stock market that caused cycles of boom and bust was the main cause, along with to much easy credit.

@@maxpayne2574 8.2.24 my o my.... times of good cheer have everything to do with economics even if the cheer is but good copy for the papers...refer to f scott fitzgerald or the flappers of the speakeasy, weimer republic and hitler's alleged disdain for it. the whole economic system has incorporated and assimilated all facets of the stock market..tis why we hear nothing about genuine deprivation...it's s simulated blip in the overall vastness of one world economic expansion....so i disagree with you. so what? it alters nought. i await my piece of hedonism. sod the economic global down turn or the petty whores and their risible piss poor attempts to decry anything others attempt to do or achieve if they aren't included....

Not justifying their bigotry, but my fiancée told me an interesting fact: her grandmother, who was born in the 20s was a bigoted woman who use the N-word regularly for Black people. It was a common term used, however, her along with others whites from that era hated the Klan. It’s kind of weird. They didn’t want them to have civil rights but they didn’t want to see them physically hurt or intimidated. Rather a confusing concept. Further interesting facts is that when she was a child she had to pick cotton along with her family and they had to hop on trains and sleep in camps living in abject poverty most of our childhood. When she became an adult, she did everything within her power to make sure her children didn’t go through that. She eventually passed away recently about two years ago after a long battle of dementia.

How about looking into “When Chicago was Hollywood” ……. From 1907-1918, one of the first real movie studios was located at 1345 W Argyle St. Uptown, Chicago, Ill. Early stars were Gloria Swanson, Frances X Bushman, and Charlie Chaplin…… before it all moved to California. The Essanay Studio building still stands today, with it’s terra cotta name and logo on the building still! A bit before the 20’s, but all a huge part of that whole era! Thanks for your great research and videos!

He was an ambulance driver in WWI, but during the Spanish Civil War, he covered the war as a journalist.
