Mumei song time signature confusing a lot of people since the time signature was 12/8 in the intro, verse, bridge and 4/4 in the chorus. A little tip from me : If you ever find a song that clapping the beat like the same in 3/4, 4/4, 6/8 it is a clue that maybe the time signature was 12/8. You can count 4/4 on mumei song from the beginning to the end and you will never struggle. Try it

Wait, does anyone actually know what meter the song is in? I heard a waltz at first as well, but the chorus made me question everything. 6/8 triplets seem to fit at first, then it goes to some sort of regular time over 4?
@Zernyy3 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure it's 120BPM 4/4 through the entire song, but how the beats are subdivided changes between the verse and the chorus. The verse consists entirely of triplets, with a fair bit of swing in the vocals, while the chorus switches to the more typical subdivision by powers of two, with the vocals being mostly eight notes.
@jamesj55653 жыл бұрын
@@Zernyy I think you're right on that! You can count on four for the entire song, at first I couldn't stop myself from thinking that it was too simple. Maybe it's easier than I assumed for someone to do a jazz style accompaniment for it, like Gura's songwriter did for a section of Reflect
@Mirrormn3 жыл бұрын
@Zerny You could think of it as being 120bpm 4/4 all the way through and switching from triplets to straight time, but it's probably written as switching between 6/8 and 240bpm 4/4 or 120 bpm 2/4. Either way is equivalent mathematically, but the second way - using different time signatures for different sections - would actually be a lot easier to read, and convey the "feeling" of the music more properly.
@Zernyy3 жыл бұрын
@@Mirrormn Interesting, I interpreted it as 30 measures per minute, which would mean notating the verses as 12/8 if not 4/4, but I can see where you're coming from interpreting it as 60 measures per minute. Notationally switching time signatures is probably the easiest for readability, but there is definitively a clearly defined 120 bpm pulse going through the entire song.

Not really a waltz as the verses are in 12/8 time and not 3/4, but still challenging nonetheless! I like how 8bit also heard it as a waltz in the beginning, but just ended up making it more challenging for himself 😆
