I mastered mini chess in 7 days and it was pretty fun...
Cyranno-Lossi (chess coach) - www.chess.com/member/cyrano-l...
It was technically 7 days because i started a little before this. You can see me playing it in my last video. Also some parts of this video are exaggerated a wee bit. I still can't believe I didn't win that last match though, I really thought I had that.

The nice thing about 5X5 is that you don t need to study openings like you normally do in normal chess.
@dudebroguymate
@dudebroguymate 2 ай бұрын
You don't need to study any openings in normal chess either until you reach about 2000 ELO. And most people never will so it's fair to say that you don't need to study openings in chess. Of course you'll learn the most basic ones and a couple side lines just by playing, but there's no need to study. All you need to do until you reach master level is play play play tens of thousands of games.

11:08 Rb1 does not draw, Kd4 defends the e3 pawn and threatens to take with the bishop on a3. After Ke1 Bxa3 Qd1 Qc5 white is in zugzwang, so Rb5 is forced, after which Rb2 forces a rook trade The next best moves are Qb1 or Ke1, which lead to being checkmated in 12 moves. After that trading rooks is next best, leading to being checkmated in 8 moves Edit: After a couple months of improving my engine I ran this position again, it turns out that Rb1 gets you mated in 14 moves

at 6:23, I don't think you lost your rook. You could play g11+ and force his king to capture then play h10+ to push his king back again and now you play kg9 to guard your rook.
@mathmagician8191
@mathmagician8191 2 ай бұрын
That leaves you in a worse position, but playing Kg9 straight away draws (after h10+ Kxh10 Qxf10 there is Qxd11 threatening checkmate on h11, leading to the queen going between d11 and e12 with the rook blocking until there is a draw by repetition)
@Captain_MelonLord
@Captain_MelonLord 2 ай бұрын
@@mathmagician8191 But why would he play h10+? He could start by playing a simple d9, which now forces Zugzwang of either moving the queen to undefend the rook, or moving the king to undefend the rook, or playing a pawn move which just stalls having to move either your king or queen. Also, this sequence threatens a massive exchange in the center but their pawn is too close to promotion so it's a loss.

@mathmagician8191
@mathmagician8191 2 ай бұрын
According to my engine, Kd2 is the best move and leads to a draw, because after e3+ Kxe3 Qxc3, there is Qxa4 threatening checkmate on e4. Rc4 is the only move to block the threat and then there is Qb5+ Rc5 Qa4 which repeats moves. It does say d4+ is the second best move, and suggests your line as best play except for choosing Kd5 rather than Ke5, but it continues by black trading down into a king and pawn endgame where it takes opposition and eventually wins a pawn (the endgame might also be a draw though)

According to my engine the rook sacrifice gives +2.3, but Qg8 gives +5.7 with a principal variation leading to a won KRvK endgame. Either of those are much better than a draw though. Edit: Qg8 leads to mate in 19 Edit 2: Analyzing this again after a couple months of improving my engine, it now says the rook sacrifice leads to a draw
